Hey Everyone!

saveur

As much as I love make-up, you could ask anyone, sometimes I wonder if I like food a little more. My guilty pleasure isn’t spending a bomb on clothes (although I can’t say much about make-up) but it is eating out. And today I can’t wait to share with you something that I’ve been visiting almost every week and that’s a quaint restaurant on Purvis St. called Saveur. It’s not like this place needs any more attention than it already has being featured in countless magazines and newspapers, but hey, I’m here to say that all of that is true. It’s that good and girl, you need to go!

hi

Yesterday I decided that today is the day that I’m going to take the pictures and blog about this place. So, I took Trisha, a good friend from Melbourne now staying in Indo. She’s just visiting in Singapore and it was so good seeing her! She’ll be starting work in a few weeks so I’m glad she got to fit in Singapore before everything starts!

First up was the Salmon Confit. This is my all time favourite starter. It is salmon cooked in its own “fat” with a green apple salad and chives and the black bits you see which is kombu, salty seaweed, the yummiest thing ever! The salmon is so soft and melts in your mouth. You can just taste the beauty of the fish which is really hard to find these days. Plus, it’s only 9.90. Saveur is known for being really affordable. If I got this anywhere else, I’d probably be paying twice the price for it. That being said, it’s such a great place to bring people because you have great food and you don’t have to spend that much.

starter

Saveur has five main main courses and they also have a specials menu at the back. I think the best seller is the Duck, which I always order. You can see just order upon order coming out of the kitchen! The duck is absolutely delicious. It is duck leg confit, with the softest home-made mashed potatoes, saute shitake mushrooms, orange segments and orange infused natural jus. It is crispy on the outside and tender, soft and moist in the inside.

duck

For dessert, I totally recommend the creme brulee. I’ve tried every single dessert on the menu and I think this one is my favourite. They have seasonal favourites so the last time I had the creme brulee, it was pandan flavoured (so good) but today it was coffee which didn’t disappoint at all either. The sugar on top complements the coffee really well – kinda like a caramel coffee.

coffee

But of course they don’t just carry normal desserts, they carry pretty innovative ones as well. I love the Textures of Citrus because it’s so refreshing! It is blood orange jelly, served with orange granite, freeze-dried pineapple, feuilletine (the cereal part), citrus segments and lime zest. It’s like the perfect end to the meal and there’s so many cool things going on, you just don’t know where to start!

textures

Overall, it’s never a sad meal at Saveur. It’s totally a must go to place if you haven’t been yet. There is always a queue for their lunch and dinner session so go early to beat the queu. Just like the Transformers Ride in Universal Studios, it’s worth it.

empty

You can find Saveur at 5 & 6 Purvis St. which is just across the National Library. You can stop at City Hall mrt and walk past Chijmes towards the Raffles Hotel and just go straight until you see Maybank and Saveur and Purvis st is just there. They are also opening up a new restaurant starting April 2nd at Far East in Orchard. It used to be the Old Town cafe next to KFC but now it’s going to be Saveur! *happy dance*. Hope I added something to your bucket list this long weekend.

Hey Everyone!

eternal grace

I remember when I was sitting in class back in High School and almost every single friend of mine would ask what I was wearing. It was my beloved ZARA perfume I got in Dubai when I was 15 and it was my very first. My Dad gave me holiday money (score!) and I ended up getting my first concealer from The Body Shop and my first perfume from..Zara. You can tell that I was totally not a clothes kinda girl from the start. Anyway Zara discontinued it and I’ve been on the hunt for something similar for a very long time.

It was in London when the Philosophy Eternal Grace perfume and I first met. It was a long day trying to find the boyfriend a Christmas present making my way through Selfridges and I ended up in the beauty hall across the candy aisle. Amongst other cult favourites stood Philosophy and looking at the popularity of Grace, I decided to give all three a whiff. Eternal Grace was clean, crisp, subtle, sweet and charming. It smelled just like my Zara perfume when I was 15. I was overjoyed! But I didn’t buy it that day and I regretted it ever since so when I saw it at the Philosophy counter in Singapore, I handed over the mooh-lah in an instant. I have no regrets despite adding yet another perfume to my collection. It is the perfect citrusy floral scent for everyday and smells amazing. You have no idea. It’s seriously a must-have, a long lost love now found and my favourite.

Scent Profile: Bergamot, citrus, neroli, geranium, lavender, violet, passion fruit, musk and amber.

Hey Everyone!

renee's blend

Meet Renee, a great friend and a crazy successful beauty blogger – the woman behind beautyfool.com. I first met her over a dinner at Cedele which happened to be both a favourite at that time and it’s been more than a year! It’s so cool to see that we’ve both grown to where we are now – from getting into newspapers, magazines, and working with companies. This journey has been crazy fun and it’s great to have someone there to talk to who understands what it’s like! Now, Renee has her very own bodycare brand and it’s Singapore’s First Beauty Blogger & Brand Collaboration. I think this is amazing and I’m super proud of her. She even flew all the way to Thailand to create these products with Lemongrass House! For all of those who don’t know, Lemongrass House is known for its eco-friendly products using the power of natural ingredients and essential oils.

Renee’s Blend is a mix of pure essential oils including Siam Magnolia, chocolate, vanilla, pink grapefruit, papaya and coconut. The result is a smell that smells really clean and fresh with subtle notes of warm musk, papaya and coconut. It is definitely spray all over your room worthy! Siam Magnolia especially is known for being able to promote tranquility, spiritual reflection and help you focus. Not only does it smell great, it can also be somewhat mentally beneficial!

But let’s get started. I have here three products from Renee’s Blend – the Shower Gel, Salt Body Glow Scrub and the Room & Pillow Spray. I just sprayed my room with the stuff and it is amazing. The shower gel is infused with the lovely scent and is a vegetable based deep cleansing shower gel that is made with fresh plant infusions of cucumber and aloe vera, pure essential oils and moisture rich glycerin! My skin smells uber smooth with this in the shower and the smell is great. I love how the scent stays on you unlike other shower gels.

But before that, when I’m feeling extra luxurious or just need a good scrubbin’ – I like to use the Salt Body Glow. I absolutely love this product! It’s a great salt scrub that doesn’t make you feel greasy but provides just enough moisture. It is made from sea salts from the Andaman Sea, Jojoba, Aloe Vera and Renee’s Blend and gently exfoliates and revitalises.

As you can see, the scrub is not too course or too fine and is perfect for sloughing off dead skin cells and makes your skin uber soft.

Last but not least is a best seller, the Renee’s Blend Aromatic Room & Pillow Spray! It’s a natural botanic mist of just the scent of Renee’s Blend wafting through the air. I mean what could be better. I love Room Sprays, keeping your house smelling extra nice is  a must, especially if your room is like your home office like mine! I spray it in my closet too so my clothes smell extra fresh.

Overall, I am really proud of you Renee! This is amazing and the products are amazing too. All of this is limited edition everyone so the last day to get your fill of Renee’s blend is the second week of April! You can get Renee’s Blend at any Lemongrass House shop including 112 Katong (#03-20), Liang Court (B1 – 26) or Raffles Place (03 – 07A)! I highly recommend the Salt Body Glow!

Although The Body Shop has been renowned for it’s body care and environmentally friendly products, I never really saw it as a make-up brand until they came out with these amazing Colour Crush eye shadows. Newly launched in Singapore, The Body Shop Colour Crush eye shadows come in 30 different shades, all single shadows which make them look just like smarties! They offer both pearl and matte shades and have an extensive colour range from the safe colours to the more wilder pinks, blues and greens.

colors

My ultimate favourite one is this vivid pink because of course you know that vivid pink is totally my colour! The name goes by Berry Cheeky which is a hot berry pink that is really pigmented. I just love how smooth the shadows are and how easily they glide on the skin. They have amazing texture and I’m really surprised since I usually see The Body Shop as more body care than make-up.

cheeky

The reason why they are so pigmented is because they are made with crushed pigments in Italy and they go on really smooth because they are blended with a silky blend of Community Fair Trade oils! I mean look at that swatch, and look at how soft the shadow is. It almost melts into the skin without that chalky feeling.

But you know me, what better way to demonstrate with an easy tutorial. Excuse the eye-brows, they’re properly trimmed right now but not when I did the pictures for this post. Whoops. Life gets busy. Anyway,  I used Sand By Me all over the lids and chocolate linger in the crease to warm it up. This is a great way that you can balance the colour that you’re going to wear later. I then ended off with a tad bit of colour which is the Berry Cheeky in the outer corner coming up from the lash line. You can use a very small angled brush for this – something fluffy and simply dab the colour on. The intensity is already very vivid so make sure you’re doing it in a buildable manner. As you can see, it’s colour made wearable! Then, finish off with eyeliner, mascara and false lashes. I also added a cream yellow in the inner corners which is Golden Girl!

I hope you liked the look! Overall, I love these eye-shadows because they are pigmented, glide on like a dream and totally worth it! The extensive range of 30 shades also means that you can play around with colour!

There’s nothing like a DIY facial with a packet of face masks from the fridge but I find that my skin becomes multitudes better after a facial that’s been done. With so many facial salons out there, it’s hard to pick the right one! But,  about two weeks ago, I went to visit Indulge Spa for their Intensive Skin Renewal Facial and was very impressed with the results even after one week!

Indulge Spa can be found at The Star Vista Mall and was established in 2003 providing beauty solutions for their clients. What is super special about them is that they mix both Western and Traditional Chinese medicine within their both face and body treatments and are aimed to detox the body. They are also a proud partner of premium beauty brand Sothy’s and use their products widely in their services.

sothys

The treatment I tried was the Intensive Skin Renewal Facial. This facial is for all skin types and ages and dramatically improves acne skin as well. Jean, the founder at Indulge spa told me about a girl who had a serious case of acne but as she returned to get this treatment, her skin with before and after photos kept improving! It aims to stimulate collagen and elastin production to firm the skin and also lighten blemishes.

Essentially, the main star of the show was the Chemical Peel. After removing all of my make-up and a deep cleanse, the therapist applied the chemical peel on me. As you can see, there are cotton pads on my eyes! A chemical peel doesn’t sound as harmful as it does. It’s simply fruit acids that help renew the skin, lighten blemishes and stimulate collagen production. The feeling was very tingly and prickly but no pain no gain. The skin looked glowing after the chemical peel session which we then proceeded to my least favourite part, extraction, and then a Sothy’s clay mask to absorb all the impurities. After everything, my skin couldn’t look any more glowing!

But of course, I like to wait at least week after the facial for my face to settle into the results and I’m still impressed. My pores were visibly reduced and my skin looks glowing – still. I especially noticed my forehead which really looked super smooth! Overall, very pleased with the Skin Renewal Facial at Indulge Spa!

good skin

As I’ve noted before, they’re also known for their traditional Chinese medicine treatments including cupping which involves suction cups to remove toxins or even slim you down. One of their most popular treatments is in fact their Cupping Slimming Treatment that aims to help you slim down naturally. And of course they are also in top in facial technology offering IPL, RF, Oxyjet and other treatments as well. Who could forget? You can even get your mani and pedi done ;)

Overall I had a great experience at Indulge Spa!  You can find them at The Star Vista Mall (which is a mall you need to go to and may eventually beat ION in terms of architectural design) at #B1-27 – give them a call to make an appointment at  6694 2072!  Thank you Indulge Spa for sponsoring me!
