Review: Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF40

Hey Everyone!

Today I’m doing a review of a new foundation find – the Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF 40 PA++. I’ll be giving you my honest opinion and a quick tutorial on how best to apply it. Foundation has always been a must-have for me – it corrects uneven skin and redness and provides a neat base for the rest of your make-up. Bobbi Brown thought why not mix the best of skincare with an amazing foundation so they came up with this – the Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation.

The coolest thing about this foundation is that Bobbi Brown has tapped into TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) to come up with ingredients like Cordyceps, Bamboo Grass and Lychee Extracts. Cordyceps is a type of mushroom that has super health enhancing properties and has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. Bobbi Brown has combined these ingredients with signature skin-tone correct pigments in a process called bi-phase cold fusion that allows the skincare actives to stay potent and to fuse seamlessly with foundation pigments. What you get is a super fine emulsion that floats over the skin surface so that your skin looks smoother, firmer and more radiant. As Bobbi Brown says -“This will change your skin – inside and out”. All in all, it’s a very interesting concept.

The packaging of this foundation is notable too – it comes in a serum like bottle equipped with a dropper just like a regular skincare product. I’ve never seen foundation in this dropper packaging before. To be honest, as much as I wanted this idea to be successful, the dropper made it hard to get the foundation out of the bottle and onto your hand or brush. Sometimes it would only suck in a small amount and you have to pump it a few times to get it out properly. For the price you’re paying, it made it seem like there wasn’t much in the bottle to start with.

But if you can get over this packaging gripe, you’re in for a pretty solid foundation. Let’s put it on! The texture of this foundation is extremely lightweight and almost feels like a watery syrup. It is best for dry skin types because it has a slightly oil-like consistency. That doesn’t mean that it feels oily on you throughout the day but rather that it feels more hydrating than oily. You can feel that it is very slick.

The best way to apply this foundation is actually with your fingers. Using a brush soaks up too much of the foundation and you will have minimal coverage. To be honest, your make-up brush probably doesn’t need the expensive cordyceps extract. Also, if you apply it with your hands, the coverage improves.

Just take some on your fingers and and do a couple streaks across your face before blending. Then in a three finger formation, just massage into your skin. I was really surprised that this foundation gave me medium to full coverage. For the consistency, I was really expecting something more lightweight and less pigmented. Nonetheless, it was a very pleasant surprise.

The effect you get from this foundation is natural with a great amount of coverage. It feels super lightweight and for dry skin types, this is ought to be a great bet. To be honest, I haven’t tried it long enough to see any skincare benefits. As a foundation though, it’s weightless and covers well which is a thumbs up in my book. Beware for oily skin types though, I really feel that you should opt for something else as you may oil up throughout the day. Overall, a solid one and one that I have been for sure loving.

Also in another note, I went to the Disney’s Beauty & the Beast musical the other day with my friend at MBS theatres and it was really a fantastic show! Here are some photos. I think there are two weeks left to go so make sure you go! I was so in love with Belle’s voice – it is amazingly magical and it really brought to life one of my favourite Disney stories.
