Review: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain vs. Clinique Chubby Stick

Hey Everyone!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I can’t remember how long I’ve wanted to try this. Probably ever since I fell in love with the Clinique Chubby Sticks and immediately classified them as possible dupes. Or maybe it seemed as if every train station was covered with them and Emma Stone’s face. Whatever it may be, I finally bought them at the airport so I could get them Duty Free when I was on the way to Bangkok (which I can’t wait to blog about later). So it’s the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain a dupe of the Clinique Chubby Stick? I’ve found that the packaging may be dupes of the Clinique Chubby Stick but it’s formula feels and even smells quite different.

First of all, like I said, the packaging is extremely similar. You have a fat and chubby lip pencil which you “sharpen” by twisting the end and having more of the product come out from the front. They come in different colors and are quite similar to the colors found in the Clinique Chubby Stick range.  The name is rather long and quite a mouthful to say. Nonetheless, the formula of the balm stain is different. For one, it is a stain. When you apply the color, it comes out quite moisturising and when I wiped it away with a tissue, it created this stain as seen below. This is quite good as the longevity of the lip product is now amplified and instead of leaving you in the dust when it fades away, it’s a gradual fade which is nice. Although the stain is light – do note that I spent a good 30 seconds trying to rub it away with a tissue before realising – “oh wait, it is a balm stain, it’s supposed to be like that.” Silly me.

But what use it is if you don’t see it on the lips! The color that I bought was Honey Douce which I think is a unique name. I thought it read Honey Dolce and I was like oh okay but nope, it’s douce. It’s a beautiful everyday pink that quite frankly does brighten my complexion. The stain goes on glossy and moisturising. It has a very peppermint smell to it and does not feel as rich or nearly as creamy as the Clinique Chubby Stick. The Clinique one isn’t creamy, but the balm stain just doesn’t have that “richness” you can feel.

That could be a good or bad thing, depending on whether you like it rich or not. When you rub your lips together, there is a bit of resistance to it but the stain is not sticky nor would I classify it as moisturising. It does have a supple and glowing finish to it though and I really love the color.

Overall, I like it. I like it because it leaves a stain and doesn’t leave me high and dry when it gets off work. The peppermint smell is quite cooling and reminds me of candy canes during Christmas. It could be a little more moisturising though. In fact, it’s a little drying after a while.  The color pigmentation is great for everyday but if I were doing high fashion, I’d probably be using something else.

It’s a great lip to wear to school, uni or when you want to whip out something fast. It’s not too bad at all. Compared to the Clinqiue Chubby Stick, I still think the Clinique one is a better bet. You’re only paying a few dollars more to be honest and it’s much more moisturising. However, if you like that stain effect, you probably want to consider the balm stain instead.

I do find the right dupe for Clinique Chubby Stick is the CoverGirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm.
It acts the same as Chubby Stick which is a tinted balm. Moisturizing – yes! Sheer color – yes!
IMO, Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain is a stain first then a balm. Although it’s not quite good at the keeping lips moist throughout the day

  • Great review. i got both Honey and Adore and love them both! i like that it has the peppermint feel.I have yet to try the chubby stick from Clinique i have however from a brand call pop beauty and it too is very similar.
