Speaking at the SK-II Bridal Shower Event! & SK-II Facial Treatment Essence Giveaway!

Hey Everyone!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s kind of surreal, this whole thing. Being chosen as a make-up artist by SK-II, getting to share my own make-up tips and beauty secrets and even speaking at an event. And to be honest, I actually love public speaking. I don’t normally get the jitters and I find it really fun to be talking to a large group of people (granted I know what I’m saying). It was really cool to be SK-II’s make-up artist to reach out to all the brides at their recent SK-II Bridal Shower. They asked me to share my make-up tips as a professional make-up artist and my experiences dealing with brides before their big day. It was an amazing and successful event and all of us walked away with new tips and new knowledge and I’m happy to be sharing all of them with you right on here, especially if you’re just about to tie the knot!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

If you haven’t read my previous post here, SK-II is the first skincare brand to be reaching out to brides and brides to be to help them glow from within before their big day. It is so important to have hydrated, supple and glowing skin to ensure that you’re the most beautiful lady at your wedding. The event was held at The Halia at the Botanical Gardens in Singapore.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

On the guess list were many nervous and excited brides-to-be and bridal magazines. We all sat down to a three course dinner and chit chatted. That’s me being a little nervous with a deck of my cards with my script that I ended up not using. I guess it’s good to just go with the flow sometimes. And, okay okay, I was just a little nervous but just as excited.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Alright so it was finally time to get up there and do my thang! I set aside the script and the words just flowed outta me and hey, I guess I did a pretty good job. I started with what bridal make-up should really be like. A lot of brides just listen to their make-up artists but you should really think about what you want first. Bridal make-up again should always be timeless and classic. You want to make sure that when you look back on your big day, you still think you look fabulous. Classic is always good because c’mon let’s face it – who doesn’t want that standard and classic fairytale wedding. I know I do.

To achieve a natural and classic look, I suggest for sure your neutral shades like beiges, creams and pinks and using waterproof make-up to make sure your make-up is there for you even when the waterworks start. I’m seriously going to be balling when I get married ;’). A great tip is to also use individual lashes instead of asking for strip lashes from your make-up artists. I know a lot of MUAs who also charge ridiculous amounts for an extra pair of lashes so maybe ask and just get a pair of your own if you think it’s unreasonable. Individual lashes are worth your money though and something I use for my clients. They look so natural, but give you the same effect and they feel like you are wearing nothing so forget about your eyelids being weighed down by anything. Hopefully, your MUA knows how to do it if not you can always ring me up :p.

Yet, make-up also needs to be long-lasting yet still look natural. A lot of make-up artists actually cake on the stuff just so you can look “good” in the photos, and they have this concept that because they’ve added more, that it will last longer. That’s pretty wrong. It’s really all about working smart and using primers so that you don’t look like a caked up mess in real life and really such a beautiful version of you. Primers help your make-up to last longer and create a smooth base so that your flaws and pores can be less visible. Yet another trick to making it last longer is also remembering to set your foundation with a powder. That is critical to making it stay and using a setting spray wouldn’t hurt either.

m3

To be honest though, having great, supple and hydrated skin makes such a difference to how you’re going to look on your wedding day even with the make-up on. I mean I’ve known make-up for a long time and it’s not magic. If you add a bunch of make-up to a face that’s dull and dry, you can try and fake it but you can see it as the make-up will crease and flake. However, if you have supple and hydrated skin, the make-up will really help enhance that and you my lovely friend, will look absolutely stunning. That’s why you need to get into good skincare early before your big day. I’ve been using SK-II for a while now and I always get comments on my glowing skin. Well, that’s because it is amazing stuff. It works. It really, really works.

m4

SK-II has taken care of all that and wants to make sure you look your best on your wedding day! They’ve created the SK-II Bridal Glow Set that is just full of amazing products like the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, Cellumination Essence EX, Deep Surge Cellumination Essence EX, Facial Treatment Clear Lotion, Facial Treatment face masks and even an SK-II 3-in-1 beauty massager.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Even people who are already using SK-II will find that using this unique combination of SK-II products will really help you glow. I can’t agree more. I mean, have you seen my last video?

m5

In the talk, I also highlighted what you could do with these products in some more unconventional ways. Did you know that you could use the SK-II Deep Surge Cellumination Essence EX as an overnight mask? Simply layer the stuff before you sleep and wake up to hydrated and supple skin. You can also use the Facial Treatment Essence as a face primer that helps your make-up to apply easier and is a good make-up base filled with good nutrients for your skin. We tried it at the event, and the make-up really glided on smoother. Last but not least, do you see how much facial treatment serum is in one facial treatment mask? (pictured above). Yeah, a lot. It’s good to not only use face masks once or twice a week but also on the day itself before your make-up application. Hey, it soothes the nerves too.

m6

And just like that, it was time for me to relax finally. Rachael, remember the bride to be?, was the next to talk about her testimony of the bridal glow set and after trying it for a good amount of time, she really did feel like her skin looked better and looked super radiant. She happens to be a huge SK-II user as well but she really felt that this combination of products especially worked really well together. We put her testimony to the test though with the SK-II Magic Ring and results showed that her skin really did get better!

Overall, the event was a huge success and everyone walked away with tons of goodies to try for themselves!

hihihi

  • Lily Tan

  • Julianne

well I already got married :)) can i still join? haha. My dream came true already :D
I opted for a natural no-makeup look that is perfect for the beach.

  • elvie

my dream makeup look will be a clear and bright makeup look, natural looking eyes, maybe brown eyeshadow as i have brown eyes. a pop of coral on my cheeks. bronzers and highlighters to give my face a natural glow as well.

  • Jan S

My dream wedding makeup would bet natural self but better! Would be a must to be long lasting too, its so humid in Singapore!

    • Jan S

Sorry! Should “be my natural self but better” :)

  • Cassandra

Flawless looking complexion without much make up. Radiant glow that comes from my skin and not makeup.

  • Celly

My dream makeup is a dewy and flawless looking face with natural yet sparkling huge eyes! ^^

  • Dee

my dream wedding makeup would be as natural looking as possible. I want to look like a blushing bride whose skin glows from within thanks to SKII and euphoria over my overwhelming love for my husband.

  • Jacquelin

I’d want smth w a pop of colour! Like, neutral shades and all for my face & lips, but maybe neon pink or bright blue in the middle of my eyelid. ^^

  • isabellmiao

My dream wedding will be somewhere in the forest? Haha. Almost elf-like. And all the guests will be provided with a little ear cap to make them look like elves. How awesome would it be when group photos are taken. :D So naturally, I would want a really dreamy make up look for my wedding. Must be glowy and fairy-like!!

  • Claire

My dream wedding makeup will involve:
    – dewy skin (i don’t have perfect skin but i definetely don’t want cakey matt skin. i don’t mind some of my blemishes peaking through my foundation base, i want to still look like me)
    – natural eyebrows that are lightly filled in and finished with a clear mascara to hold them in place
    – shimmery base all over the eyelid with a matt or satin contour along my eye socket. i’m leaning towards a natural look (save for some shimmer because i want some glow to my eyes!). color-wise i’ll have something along the lines of soft browns/taupe/purple
    – black eyeliner done softly to avoid being too harsh or perhaps a dark rich brown eyeliner (both on my tight line and upper lash line). not too fond of a dramatic wing so i’ll stick to following the natural shape of my eyes and extending the line out a bit more!
    – completely agree with you about the individual eyelashes! they look more natural and even if i end up sobbing and the glue washes off, it’s less obvious (and less stressful) than a full lash strip coming off!
    – i would want to contour my face a little to give it some dimension but not anything too harsh
    – for blush i would choose a soft pink (not keen on any shimmer here save for some highlighter across the tops of my cheekbones) i want to be a blushing bride!
    – a pink for my lips. preferably a long-lasting yet moisturizing lipstick or perhaps a stain. i love the l’oreal shine caresse lip stains and the ysl glossy stains
    – finish everything off with spritzes of a makeup setting spray and i’m all ready for my big day!

    – AND BEFORE all that makeup is put onto my face, i would pat the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence onto my skin <3

    thanks roseanne! :))

  • Annsley

My future wedding makeup look is actually inspired by Nic from the Pixiwoo sisters. It’s the look she did for her wedding day featuring a glowy radiant skin, an eye look with MAC Brule, Patina, Mulch and Black Tied, and a nudey pink lip.

  • KItty

My dream wedding makeup would be a matural look that brings out my natural beauty. Makes my skin glow from within and settle eye makeup and natural colored lips!

  • Bella AK

My dream make up would be having defined eyes by just highlighting the inner corners and using a medium brown to lightly blend it into my crease with some natural looking lashes. Other than that i want my face to look like i’ve just got skin on without a caked face and a touch of coral blusher for a flush of colour. But for me having defined natural eyes are important because make up is the way to make my eyes look even and big! :)

  • Connie

My dream wedding makeup would be natural with a color scheme ranging from peach to gold. Perfect brows, romantic falsies, and a glowing complexion will finish off my dream look!

  • Phoebe Santos

I want to look radiant, timeless yet elegant. With touches of champagne, gold and rose on my make up. ^_^

  • Cintya Mary Margareth Sitanggang

My dream makeup look is a glowy face with not so much makeup and of course with natural radiant color. If you know the video clip “Beyonce – Best Thing I Never Had” that’s my favourite makeup… and the garden wedding party…

  • Carrie

Wedding make up for me should be done with a light hand. Glowing elfin appearance (of course this means great skin), nudes and pinks to accentuate instead of dramatically changing the bride’s look. That’s my preference for my own wedding make up (if that day ever comes)!

  • Angel

I would definitely want my dream wedding make-up to be magically vintage – gorgeous cat-eye and the classy red lips :)

  • Jane

My dream wedding make-up should be translucent, dewy and glowing with radiance – like those porcelain and flawless skin of the K Pop Stars!

  • Jermaine

Can I be greedy and want two different makeup looks? :)

    1. Daytime: Natural brown/gold smokey eye with a bit of shimmer on my face and a slightly nude/baby pink lips – and false lashes because my eyelashes are ridiculously short.

    2. Nighttime: Navy/gold smokey eye with heavier eyeliner, but still keeping the nude/babypink lips. I really like gold!!

(And, for my to-be groom, I will insist on cleanly groomed eyebrows)

  • Amelia Leeanda

In my wedding day… i want to have a flawless makeup look because i have acne skinprone.. and always tend to breakout.. only if that can happens.. i want to look perfectly great on my wedding day..

  • Desiree

my dream wedding make up would consist of not too much of concealer, or heavy eye make up. i would want to look natural and shine via the radiant skin by using SK II to help prep the big day! well they say, a smile is the best make-up any girl could wear ;-)

  • meixn

I want to look like a barbie doll on my wedding! That said, my dream makeup should be dreamy, doll-like with sharp features and bold colors :D

  • Sheryl

Glowing healthy hydrated skin with subtle contours, emphasis on eyes (think lashes!) and a lovely peachy-coral lip colour :)

  • L

a flawless yet natural base, false lashes to open up my eyes and neutral colours.
most importantly, everything needs to stay in place.

  • wickermoss

i’m already married but if I would get the chance to re-marry and exchange vows with my husband why not? =)

every bride has a dream of wearing the most beautiful wedding dress so it has to match with a beautifully done hair/make-up. with make up i would still go for airbrush, ’cause the HD quality works awesome with lights and camera flashes. also it has this velvety feel, second skin at its best! plus it lasts all day.for the day time i think i’d like soft shimmery pastels with that well-contoured face; then i could transform my look during the night ..like a smokey mauve and grey combination…as long as i won’t look like i’m bruised or punch drunk haha. Thanks for this giveaway and congrats for this event!

  • Serene

My wedding will be on 1st June 2014, which is less than a year now!
I wish to have flawless dewy skin with no acne scars as I break out easily :(

For the day, I wanted the eye shadow to look pinkish with soft brown. To have that kind of natural look with some colours. Probably like what those korean pop stars looks like haha..

For the night, I do wish to try something new for the eyeshadow. Be it purple, orange, green, blue, red! … And it has to match well with my dress too. I do love red+orange eyeshadows, but just couldn’t do it myself.

Lastly, thank you Roseanne for hosting this giveaway. Take care!

  • Amy C

My dream wedding makeup would be the makeup that SNSD wears. Their skin makeup is always flawless and they never have an overdone eye. I want to look fresh and naturally beautiful. I think for the party afterwards, I would totally go in and darken up the liner.

  • KItty

A makeup look thats simple yet brings out my natural beauty!

  • Samantha

My dream wedding makeup look would be a very natural yet flawless glowy look. With a perfected base and emphasis on the eyes! Neutral eyeshadows with a pinky/nude lip colour with the combination of highlighter and blusher/contour.

  • anh nguyen

    hi roseanne,

first off, thank you so much for your giveaway, hou are such a generous person.

i actually just got married. however, i have to honestly say that i do not like my makeup on my wedding day. being in korea for the past 6 years, im used to the natural makeup look with radiant, lumious skin, straight eyebrown, tightline eyeliners, nude lipstick with a hint of lip gloss. since my wedding took place in vietnam, the makeup artist did not come close to what i expected even tho i kept insisted on the “natural look”. thats why to your question, my answer would be “natural korean makeup”

the winning of the give away means a lot since it is such a higly raved product and im sure it will help to keep a clear skin of pregnant women like me. i really hope that i can try that out!

once again, thank you very much for your giveaway. wish you all the best

  • KItty

A makeup look that makes one seem to have perfect glowy skin, with a natural eye makeup look that brings out one’s natural beauty

Hi! My dream make up look would be something subtle and romantic. Like a soft smokey eye look, soft flushed cheeks and maybe a pink or hot bold lips. Depends on my outfit! Aww Im so excited thinking about it. Do make a tutorial on different bridal looks ∩__∩ Thanks for the giveaway.. I would really like to use this chance to try SKII out. Goodluck to everyone! o∩_∩o

One of my friends is getting married this year and she’s been fretting about her skin and all cos she’s not a typically beauty-enthused person. Think this would be a great gift to start her off! :)

my dream wedding make up would be elegant and appropriate. like you said, classic is best. but ‘classic’ can mean different things when you’re wearing a gorgeous white wedding gown and when you’re wearing elaborate ethnic wear. i want to look beautiful and radiant, with makeup that perfectly complements my outfits for the day as well as the theme (:

  • KItty

A makeup look that looks like perfect glowy skin, with a natural eye makeup look that brings out one’s natural beauty

  • candy

my dream wedding make up will look something like ‘ beauty base zero ‘ as Suzanne Collins called it in Hunger Games Trilogy. Essentially, it would look just like me but more of a ‘ flawless me’ . My eyes would sparkle with just a hint of radiant eye shadow and my lashes beautifully curled and fringed to draw attention to the eyes. My face just a gradient colour of coral and peach and just simply glowing from within. My lips just subtly glistening with pretty pink shade. my hair will just be loosed in beautiful waves. I just want a very natural look – dewy, fresh, romantic and just be a radient looking bride.
