My Favourites

Hey Everyone!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have to say that 2013 was a great year for make-up and skincare for me. I tried and received so many products and I even got to be a judge for a huge magazine here for their beauty awards. But I’ll be telling you more about that later! So, today I thought I might show you what I think were the best products I used in 2013 and what you should definitely add to your list the next time you’re out shopping!P.S – If you see that the name of the product has a link, click on it to see a full review post I did on it earlier if you want to find out more about it!

Hey Everyone!

They say that scents are collections of memories. A whiff of something can instantly bring you back to a moment in time. I reckon it’s like wearing a memory. If you are in need of a new perfume, I’m proud to announce that L’Occitane has just come out with four new scents available Tuesday this coming week in stores which are all worth a whiff! They smell amazing! It’s the L’Occitane Collection De Grasse range which I had the honor of previewing a few weeks ago!

worldcapital

Grasse is actually a town in France were local growers cultivate jasmine, rose, orange blossom and violet flowers. It’s actually undeniably the world capital of perfumery, a place that unites precious ingredients from near and far. In fact, the greatest perfumers in the world learned their skills in the laboratories of Grasse for centuries! Karine Dubreuil is the perfumer for L’Occitane who has worked for various major perfume houses. She is the nose behind many famous fragrances already and created the compositions for the L’Occitane Collection De Grasse. They’re a union of complimentary ingredients and that’s why they smell so good!

Hey Everyone!

I’ve always kept my eye on Marc Jacobs perfumes. First there was Daisy, which has always been a hallmark fragrance for me. It’s funny how certain smells can remind us of certain moments in our life and Daisy reminds me so much of first year Uni that I will never wear it again. I know it’s a bold statement to say but it’s certainly special. Then, came Lola which I thought was a bit too mysterious and musky for me and when I saw DOT on the counters, I became throughly excited.

Dot is a little different. It is heavier and sweeter than Daisy but lighter than Lola. It represents the in-between and is a much fruitier than floral scent. It is sweeter with top notes of red berries, dragonfruit and honey suckle, heart notes of jasmine, coconut water and orange blossom and base notes of vanilla, driftwood and musk. It is thus a fruity, sweet and musky fragrance. I like it. I can’t say I love it because it smells familiar and not to my memory completely unique and unheard of. I think to me, Daisy was  really a unique and classic fragrance. Along with Chloe. But this one reminds me of those Victoria Secret or Bath and Body Works bath sprays you spritz on after a shower with hints of Sweet Pea. It really does smell nice but perhaps so can anything. Smell is a matter of personal preference anyway so you might as well give it a whiff the next time you’re near one. It also gives a refreshing “after-smell”.

Hey Everyone!

I’ve heard great things about this foundation and when Priceline (the local drugstore and drugstore make-up mecca in Australia) had a 2 for 1 deal on L’Oreal face products, I had to take the plunge and get it. The L’Oreal True Match foundation is a liquid foundation that is supposedly special because it matches your skin tone and skin texture with ultra fine pigments. So basically, it’s taking the whole “I’m wearing make-up but I still look natural” look to another level. I have to say after using it for a series of weeks, it has now made it to my list of favourite drugstore foundations. I love it for it’s light consistency, perfect coverage and flawless finish.

Hey Everyone!

I don’t know if you remember when you were 13 years old and you looked in the mirror in the girl’s bathroom after soccer practice and your hair tied in a pony tail looked like an absolute mess. In a shock that your middle school crush was going to see you in class, you turned on the tap to get some water to smoothen out the flyaways. It worked temporarily but you know it didn’t work permanently. I remembered doing that all the time. I’m here to introduce to you my favourite beauty find of 2012 (so far) – the L’oreal Professionnel Mythic Oil. I love this stuff!

Hey Everyone!

I have to admit, a stippling brush looks a bit odd. It’s a bunch of animal hair bristles and poking through that bush is a bunch of taller white synthetic bristles. But this brush is basically a miracle worker because there are just so many ways to use them! It’s one of my first face brushes and it’s one of my favourites because you can basically use one brush to do your whole face. It’s not totally suggested because you don’t want to mix your liquid foundation with your powder blush but at least it’s the thought that counts.

Yet, too many people complain that this baby streaks during application but little do they know that they’re just not using it properly! That’s what I’m here for. Today I’ll be showing you all you need to know about Stippling brushes – including how to use them, what they’re best for and giving a little review of the few ones that I own. There are four things that a stippling brush can do for you – it’s great for liquid foundation, powder, blush and bronzer. We’ll see how.

Hey Everyone!

Good Saturday! Since the beautiful chilly seasons of fall and winter are coming, I thought it would be useful to show you my favourite nail colours to wear during the holiday season. For the rest of us tropical babes, stay tuned to my favourite spring/summer nail polishes in my next post. The reason why I say nail colours instead of specific nail polishes is because I tend to buy limited edition nail polishes so that finding them again is near impossible unless you look online. I didn’t want the brand to matter so I thought suggesting nail colours would be more appropriate.

Hey Everyone,

A while back ago, Sigma sent me a bunch of their brushes to try out. I wanted to do a review like you wanted me to but I didn’t know what to say about them really. I grew up with M.A.C brushes and I did find some glitches to them but for the price you’re paying, it made them pretty obsolete. I didn’t want to compare it to M.A.C but that was all I had to compare them to. I decided not to do a review until I had more to say than just saying that they did the job aside from a few stray hairs. This was my story until I tried their synthetic range and boy was I up for a surprise. Today I’ll be doing a review of the Sigma F82 Round Top Kabuki, a pretty popular Sigma brush and something that has made it to my must-have list.

Hey Everyone,

Every now and then you stumble across a make-up brand that may not be plastered on everyone’s hall of fame. Today I’ll be talking about Sportsgirl Make-up. To many Aussies, you probably know this as a place to find your new Spring dress or that cute skirt but I’ve tried a bit of their very affordable make-up line and I have to say that I am in love with their lip products. I thought it might be fun to do a little post on the Sportsgirl Make-Up items that I have tried and give you my two cents on each of them.

To the rest of the world, Sportsgirl is a clothing store for girls. I personally am a fan of their clothes, they’re very up to date, trendy, fun and colorful and offer a range of clothing lines to suit all personalities. I have to say that their sales are magical. You can visit their store at http://www.sportsgirl.com.au. In fact, it’s all over Australia I believe and there’s quite a number of stores in Melbourne. They’re known for being fancy lookin’.

Hey Everyone,

Time for a short snippet on a favourite. Currently, I’m swooning over the DKNY Be Delicious Eau De Parfum. It’s not a new release nor is it the talk of the town anymore but this delicious scent has notes of sweet amber, fresh flowers and of course apples that has left me spritzing every time I’m out the door.

I gave this a whiff last semester and plucked it off the shelf immediately. This actually does remind me of New York. My brother used to live right across Wall Street and I spent quite a few summers in the Big Apple looking over busy streets, strolling down Central Park and laughing at all the oddities at Times Square. Sniffing it once more reminds me of the sophisticated working woman in the latest khaki trench coat and posh heeled boots. It’s my love of the moment, and cliche as it sounds, the apple of my eye.

Going to the drugstore can sometimes be a little daunting. There are tons of products stocked on the shelves and with much lighter price tags, it can only be either a joy ride or a roller coaster figuring out what to place in our shopping basket. Today, I’ll try to make that job easier by showing you my top 10 current favourite drugstore products are so your trip to the store can be that much more fun. Make-up Junkie or not, we’ve all been there when our wallets need to stop the diets and start piling on the weight for the winter.

Hey Everyone!

It’s Friday! I hope you had a splendid week. Mine was pretty busy. I got to meet up with the lovely Pearlin Siow and Merry Riana for an interview at Touche Elite and got my first full body massage. I have to say that was for sure an experience and it was just a little awkward at times but it was good. I’m as smooth as a baby’s bottom! Ha-ha.

It’s time to take you down memory lane. Today I’ll be talking about my favourite products of 2010. It has for sure been eventful in the makeup department as I tried to walk out of my M.A.C and NARS comfort zones to try other brands like Chanel, YSL and even drugstore products as well. Here are my picks that might just pop up on your next makeup shopping list.

Hey Everyone,

I’m back! I hope you haven’t forgotten me. I just want to give you a big bear hug for being so patient, I had exams to attend to which explains my dishelved appearance in these photos but hopefully they’ll do.

I’ll be doing a review on YSL’s Touche Eclat Radiant Touch. We’ve all seen it, probably know what it does but does it work? I’d have to give it my thumbs up. It was definitely a life saver during study time when my eye bags were become more obvious and I just looked plain tired. You’ll see my triple eye-lids, I only get those when I’m not sleeping enough.

Hey Everyone,

I decided to make a combined post announcing my 4,000 Subscriber Giveaway and my drugstore favourites!! I know, I know, I vaguely recall saying that I’m all about the department stuff but I have recently discovered that many products at the drugstore have really impressed me. MAC got a little boring and my bank account started to lose digits so I decided to try out some YouTube holy grails and I have found a set of my own.

1. Tresemme Moisture Rich Shampoo and Conditioner

I’m not gonna lie, I get a lot of questions about my hair. What do I put on it? What do I do to it? The answer is..really..nothing. But I absolutely must have a good shampoo and conditioner and if I don’t use conditioner, you do not want to see me. The two things I use in Australia thanks to the dry weather are the Tresemme Moisture Rich range and I find that these babies do make my hair silky soft and pretty. :) They’re about eleven dollars for big bottles so they aren’t too bad in the price department either. The only other shampoo and conditioner I’ll use is by Sunsilk and that’s the brand I use in Singapore because Tresemme isn’t available.

Hey Everyone,

*Shopbop.com did not contact me for the following review, it’s not sponsored, totally my discovery and opinions about it.

The current state of my favourite shoes could be equivalent to searching google images for “old, yucky, tearing flats,” and I’m sorry to bombard you with this image of them to prove a point. I didn’t even bother to mark them because I figured no one would actually take this awful image:

* I deleted the image because i was sick of seeing it on my blog everyday ahah. :D Just take it that it was pretty gross haha

They’re a pair of ECCO’s, been around for about a year and it’s getting to it’s end life. It’s soles don’t want to stick to it’s worn leather body and my mom has started to make faces at them. I figured it’s time for a change. I’m still wearing them though! Until they really die out, but I think getting a new pair is quite a necessity before they do eventually collapse.

Hey Everyone,

I don’t know about you, but I have crowned my brushes as the diamonds of my collection and if anything messed them up not only would I cry, I would probably come after them with pitchforks and flaming torches. They’re my babies, cuddled in brush guards with clear nail polish sweeped across their silver names, so I figured, hey, it’s time I do a review!

Overview – General Thoughts:

I remember when I first saw MAC brushes on Youtube and just like many, I asked the number one question out there:” Do I really need a MAC Brush?”. And the answer is: Honestly, no. There are thousands of brushes out there -whether they come from drugstores, online from ebay or even Sigma but I think the most important thing to remember is that MAC brushes are basically luxury items and just like you running out there to dump a few thousand at Prada instead of a few at your local market, your neglected Auntie is probably perplexed at why you would pay $60 instead of $1 for a brush. And, MAC brushes aren’t worth thousands of dollars don’t get me wrong but they are at the high end area of the cosmetic brush market. But honestly, no one is going to see your brush down Orchard Road unless you feel like flailing your brush collection at people and who knows, they might even give their spare change.

Hi. Roseanne is in love.

We all know what it is and where it came from and its achievements that have piled up from a number of youtube gurus and the make-up obsessed are numerous but is the MUFE HD Foundation & Powder really worth it? Well, lets digest how awesome this foundation is… slowly..

HD Foundation – So what’s the lowdown?

The Make Up Forever Foundation is a foundation that conceals, keeps your face fresher for longer, doesn’t cake, while emanating an aura of flawlessness. It even won Allure 2008 Editor’s Choice and is best known for diffusing fine lines while keeping it oil-free. But how does it do it? Simply put: Mica & Silica. The Make Up Forever HD foundation kicks everyone else’s buttocks because it has Cyracide Mica (otherwise known as light diffusing particles) and although it sounds dangerous, its the key to creating a soft focus effect, blurring blemishes and sweeping pores under the bed. However, I think its the silica thats the star of the show. If you have acne prone skin, don’t worry because there are three different kinds of silicone in this foundation that have a molecular structure that is too large to absorb into the skin sort of like: you = particle and you know those skinny jeans you bought a few years ago – yea thats the pore.

Hey beauties,

I know for all of you out there who watch my youtube videos, you’re probably thinking i’m a crazy cat for being such a make-up shop-a-holic in aussieland haha and spending ridic amounts of money on make up but don’t fret, I have a reason :P I’ve never really bought MAC or other high end brands until I got to Australia, actually at all because I told myself that when I go to uni, that I would allow myself to do this and I’ve honestly never been happier.

The thing is, although I think drugstore make-up is great, the quality in certain products from higher end brands cannot really be surpassed. For example, powders from MAC including the MAC MSFs and the Blot powder are unbeatable. I’ve tried other drugstore products in powder but I could never get that flawless look with them. I can really see the quality in higher end products, I’ve realized, and these higher end products make very good investments. I use em everyday, so I can lean in on a littler pampering :P And c’mon, the morning make up routine for me is so much better when I know i’m using the brands I worship on youtube. It makes my morning. I haven’t been unsatisfied with a single high end product keeping to the fact that I think every penny is worth it when I buy them thus far..well mainly because I stalk them on youtube for a LONG time before getting them.
