Hey Everyone!

worldfamous

Whenever I pass by the Benefit Counter these days, I’m amazed at how many make-up kits they have. From priming, to eye-shadow to even bronzing, they’re probably the first I’ll think about when I want to buy somebody a gift. That’s because these kits make amazing gifts. I mean who wouldn’t want one of these?

Today I’ll be talking about their new boxes of love – the Benefit World Famous Neutrals Eyeshadow Kits! They are a mouthful to say and remember but just like the other kits they’re offering, they are super easy to follow and provide you with just what you need. There are three varieties – the Most Glamorous Nudes Ever, Easiest Nudes Ever and Sexiest Nudes Ever – courtesy of Eyenessa who’s on the front cover. Stay tuned to find out how you can win one of these!

glam

Lets start with Most Glamorous Nudes Ever (short for MGNE)! The eyeshadow kits feature Benefit’s four long-wear powder eyeshadows and two creaseless cream shadows. I simply love the packaging, comes in a book box and it reminds you that when you’re done with everything, you can take out the shadow part and use it as a box for your precious items!

1

On the top part of the box is an instruction manual with step by step instructions for creating a daytime and night time look with your kit. It’s great for travel but as it doesn’t include liners, you might want to pack that along. I was very much looking forward to trying out the shadows as it will be my first benefit eye-shadow actually!

But seriously, the quality of these shadows were not surprising. They’re fantastic. The creaseless cream shadows went on like a dream, very creamy but great payoff. The shadows were super soft and blend able and both the texture and pigmentation is impressive. My favourite has to be birthday suit and it’s complicated! Such beautiful shades!

sdfsdf

But of course, what’s a review in Roseanne’s world without a tutorial. You’ll have to excuse my eyes being a bit pink and red. I had the fan blowing at the side of my face in the morning because it was hot and it must have dried them out a bit. Nonetheless, I followed the instructions for the daytime look!

2

Isn’t this so cute on how it opens up like this? Daytime and..instead of nighttime, they called it play time lol. I love their names. So cute!

meow

To achieve a simple daytime look with the Glamorous Neutrals palette, start by applying Birthday Suit all over the lids. This will act as a good base for your eyeshadow to cling onto.

bir

Then apply It’s Complicated which is a beautiful rose gold shade onto the middle of your lids. Or if you like all over your lids to set your cream shadow.

complicated

After that, apply buff which is a matte cream color to highlight your brows and also in the inner corner! Then, use a synthetic brush with birthday suit again and smoke upwards from the lid line.

buff

Use your favourite eyeliner for your lid line, water line and tight line and you get something like this. Wasn’t that easy? I really feel like Benefit took all the complicated things about eyeshadow and tossed them right out the window! It’s so idiot-proof and you get a pretty fantastic look. I also defined my brows, used Benefit Dandelion blush and a Shu Uemura lip gloss to finish off the look.

3

But the fun doesn’t stop there. There is also Easiest Nudes Ever which features more pink and girly shades. Pink and brown make a great color combination.

easiest

There’s also Sexiest Nudes Ever which is more of a plum smokey eye palette. It’s so gorgeous and very versatile. I always think that plum and purple colors if done right suit everyone!

Although The Body Shop has been renowned for it’s body care and environmentally friendly products, I never really saw it as a make-up brand until they came out with these amazing Colour Crush eye shadows. Newly launched in Singapore, The Body Shop Colour Crush eye shadows come in 30 different shades, all single shadows which make them look just like smarties! They offer both pearl and matte shades and have an extensive colour range from the safe colours to the more wilder pinks, blues and greens.

colors

My ultimate favourite one is this vivid pink because of course you know that vivid pink is totally my colour! The name goes by Berry Cheeky which is a hot berry pink that is really pigmented. I just love how smooth the shadows are and how easily they glide on the skin. They have amazing texture and I’m really surprised since I usually see The Body Shop as more body care than make-up.

cheeky

The reason why they are so pigmented is because they are made with crushed pigments in Italy and they go on really smooth because they are blended with a silky blend of Community Fair Trade oils! I mean look at that swatch, and look at how soft the shadow is. It almost melts into the skin without that chalky feeling.

1

But you know me, what better way to demonstrate with an easy tutorial. Excuse the eye-brows, they’re properly trimmed right now but not when I did the pictures for this post. Whoops. Life gets busy. Anyway,  I used Sand By Me all over the lids and chocolate linger in the crease to warm it up. This is a great way that you can balance the colour that you’re going to wear later. I then ended off with a tad bit of colour which is the Berry Cheeky in the outer corner coming up from the lash line. You can use a very small angled brush for this – something fluffy and simply dab the colour on. The intensity is already very vivid so make sure you’re doing it in a buildable manner. As you can see, it’s colour made wearable! Then, finish off with eyeliner, mascara and false lashes. I also added a cream yellow in the inner corners which is Golden Girl!

I hope you liked the look! Overall, I love these eye-shadows because they are pigmented, glide on like a dream and totally worth it! The extensive range of 30 shades also means that you can play around with colour!

Hey Everyone!

intro

Putting on eyeshadow that’s not a shade of brown isn’t commonplace for me. Especially lilac. So when Bobbi Brown introduced me to what’s in store for Spring 2013 and their Lilac Rose Collection, I wasn’t convinced that a pastel shade of purple pink could be so inviting. I was wrong. The Bobbi Brown Lilac Rose Collection is beautiful and despite what seems like cool tones, they still work on warmer tones like me. The Bobbi Brown Lilac Rose Collection was inspired by sweet candy and jellies that Bobbi Brown saw in a jar and it reminded her that lilac could be a universal color for all skin tones. But enough talk, here are some of the stars of the show!

Bobbi Brown Lilac Rose Palette – (SGD$99)

The Bobbi Brown Lilac Rose Palette is the main attraction of this season’s collection. It features eight shadows in a really smart convertible two-level palette. Simply draw out the little drawer on the bottom to reveal two more shadows of the second level. That being said, the palette consists of flattering dusty pinks, heather greys and lily shades. I love this palette because it caters to both day and night looks and has both matte and shimmery shades. There’s even a matte black that can turn any day look into a look ready for some dancin’. You do have to keep in mind that these shades are not your Sugarpill pigmented kind of colors. I think the reason why is because they want the color to be buildable and for everyday wear – for enhancing the eyes.

4

Here’s a tutorial of the look I did with this palette. As you can see, the shadows are made to be build-able but I wanted a very light day look so I went light with the colors. In the level closest to the mirror, I used the sparkly lilac shade all over the lid. Then, I used the brown in the top right corner of the first level in my crease. I used the gunmetal brown shade in my inner corner and defined a little bit with the matte black brown. Then finished off with eyeliner just on my lid line.

Sparkly Eye – Shadow – Limited Edition Lilac Shade – ( SGD$45 )

I love this eye-shadow, it is amazingly beautiful and pigmented. It’s a great way for women to wear glitter for both day and night especially in the lilac shade.

1

I mean look at the swatch! It’s so beautiful! It has a featherweight formula that instantly lights up the eyes and uses a unique combination of glitter and shimmer pearls in a translucent base. It’s not chalky at all and produces great color. This ought to be my favourite item out of the whole collection.

beautiful

Brightening Lip Gloss – Lilac Rose – (SGD$36)

This lip gloss has color with a hint of pearlized shimmer to enhance the lips. The lilac rose collection will come out with three new shades – Lilac Rose as featured below, New Pink Lily and Pink Lilac. The lip gloss is smooth and not sticky and even though the lilac rose shade look quite cool, the lip gloss again has build-able lip color and provides just a hint of color. It’s not overwhelming and gives a nice shade to the entire look.

2

Here’s the day look I did with the collection! The colors of the collection really do compliment each other!

thelook

Nail Polish – Roza – (SGD$29)

The last item is the nail polish in a limited edition Roza. It was inspired by Bobbi’s editorial manicurist who is known for fashion-forward nail trends and Roza is that shade of heather pink that Bobbi Brown wanted to feature in the collection. It’s a sheer color that’s buildable and a great nude shade!

So there we have it, your own introduction to Bobbi Brown’s new Spring 2013 Lilac Rose Collection :) It will be in stores in Singapore from March 2013 next month!

Hey Everyone!

naked1

I finally got my hands on the most famous baby of 2013, the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. I am in LOVE with Urban Decay eyeshadows as you probably would have known judging from my tutorials and I was so excited when I got my paws on this one.

naked2

The Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette features six essential shades – five being matte and one being a frost shade. This is the ultimate palette for neutral eye wearers like me and the matte shades help even mature ladies get the best for their buck. In fact, for more mature women – matte shades help to enhance the eye while shimmer shades enhance the wrong thing such as wrinkles. Nonethless, no matter what shade you are, going matte isn’t a boring idea at all. However, if you’re the more colorful type, you might want to use these colors in the crease that will help contour the eye as a mix of matte and shimmer on the eye can go a long way.

swatchesnaked

I’ve never been really disappointed with Urban Decay eyeshadows. They are creamy, build-a-ble, and really pigmented. I mean look at those swatches! Although not all the shades are new to the Urban Decay Team like Foxy and Venus, it still is a great palette putting all the matte shades together. I love how despite being matte, the shadows still have a great texture and aren’t chalky like some other matte shadows are.

naked3

Here’s an eye look that is SUPER simple – great for any occasion with the Basics palette. I went really quite light but if it’s not smokey for you, just add more color! I used a mix of Foxy and WOS on the lid as the nude base, Naked 2 in the crease and Faint in the outer corner. I then defined my lid line and waterline with Crave, the matte black and finished with eyeliner and mascara!

Hope you liked this look! I also had a great time at the Urban Decay Event at Sephora ION where I got to do a make-up demo using the palette! Here are a few snapshots including Chloe in white as my model after using not only this palette but a few other UD products!

Hey Everyone!

paperself1

The world of creative falsies has always been foreign to me. I mean, when would I find the occasion to wear lashes with red and green feathers or even to the more simple diamonte ones? Probably never. But, going to make-up school helped bring out the crazier side of me and that’s when I learned of Paperself lashes. If you think feathers is a bit too cray cray for you, then how about paper cut out eyelashes? That’s right.

So when eyesbright.com contacted me to see if I’d like to review one of these, I was more than excited. For all of you who are unfamiliar with eyesbright.com, it is one of UK’s leading eye accessories retailers and they provide us not only with cool falsies like Paperself, but also a myriad of different contact lenses – from cat eyes and panther eyes to halloween contact lenses to UV electric blue lenses. They also do face and nail and lip tattoos! SO, if you’re looking to make your next costume better than anyone else’s, you can make it complete by checking out what Eyesbright has to offer. I mean, seriously, what they offer is so quirky and cool, I would hop onto their site just for pure entertainment.

paperself2

Anyways, back to the review. The ones that I chose were the Paperself Deer & Butterfly. These were designed by Ting Yu Wang and feature stunning paper cut outs of deer..and well butterfly and of course some grass. It’s nonethless pretty and an amazing feat by itself.

paperself5

To apply the lashes, you would apply them like any other false lash. I was to be honest a bit concerned with how my DUO eyelash glue would soften the paper but it was fine. There is no band that most lashes seem to have, it’s just totally paper. That being said, be absolutely careful because you could end up ripping something. I used a pair of tweezers to pick them up but to be honest because of the shape, the easiest way to put these on would probably be to use your own fingers.

paperself3

And on myself, I look like I’m ready for a forest photoshoot. These look beautiful on the lashes but to be honest, I don’t think I can find an occasion. I will enjoy using it the next time I have a beauty shoot though. Overall, it was easier to apply and take off than I expected and although delicate, withstood the glue. You do have to be careful though!

paperself4

I don’t know if you noticed, but I didn’t trim the lashes at the end. This is because personally I think these lashes would look better on my eye elongated as I have pretty small eyes and the band is a good width for eyeliner!

I hope you liked this post and do give eyesbright.com a visit!

Hey Everyone,

How To

Applying perfect eyeliner can be a difficult task for the newbie in make-up to some of the experts. It’s something that requires practice and patience. But if you’re out of both, here is a really easy way to put training wheels on your eyeliner. All you need is a dark eye-shadow like a matte black or brown that will be your eye definer and a sharp synthetic angled eyeliner brush. Use these two tools as your training wheels. Simply draw on the eye shadow where you would put your eyeliner. The synthetic angled eyeliner brush (I recommend the Ecotools one) will help you draw precise lines with the shadow.

HT6 HT5

The beauty of this is that if you make a mistake, you can simply rub or gently brush off the shadow. Good thing I’m wearing a smokey eye here! If not, use a dry q tip and in quick strokes, brush the powder away.

HT4

Once you’ve got your training wheels perfect, you can then go over the whole thing with your favourite eye liner.     HT3

So that’s about it! I think the best liner to use right now is a liquid liner. I’m using the Make-Up Forever Aqua Eyes precision liner but really like the Maybelline Impact Express pen looking one as well as the Revlon Colorstay! Hope you liked this post! I’m launching my online store soon! Do stay tuned on my Facebook Page to keep updated!

Hey Everyone!

We all know that Topshop makeup has been around for a while now. The definetly different packaging of white chalk on black paper, squiggly sketches of make-up products has always caught my attention but I never really dove in for the kill until now.  I’m like a stubborn cat when I’m shopping. When I want to go shopping, I really go shopping. When I want to try something out, I want to try it all. And if I’m not in the mood, my parents have even begged me to buy something. Anyway, enough of being silly, here’s my take, opinion, review, whatever floats your boat of the majority of the make-up products.  Let’s get started.

1. Topshop Make-up Eyeshadows

I picked out the Smokey Eye Palette in Smouldering – it’s 4 dark and semi shimmery colors – but they come out more matte than shimmery. I tend to like eye-shadow palettes much better because I have a ton of eye-shadow and I shouldn’t add any more full-size babies to my collection. Cute enough, the set comes with a little mini tutorial brochure telling you how to apply these shadows. Apply the gray all over the lid, the dark maroon in your outer corner and then use the black to line your lids. The white shade can be used to highlight your brow then remember to blend everything together.

In terms of pigmentation, the color payoff is great when swatched which is no suprise really. The only “problem” I had with them was the blendability or “softness” of the shadow. Even if you’re talking about dry eye-shadow if you know eye-shadow well enough, you would know what I mean by “soft”. Soft eye-shadows pack on great color at the first pat on your lids and blend very well and effortlessly on your lids. The reason why I love and always use the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette is because it does just that. So does the Wet N’ Wild palette. Love those babies. So although pigmentation is good, they aren’t soft enough. But if you’re not a picky eater, you probably wouldn’t know the difference.

2. Topshop Make-up Lipsticks

Call me a little nuts, but this lipstick is my first bright red lipstick. I have two OCC liptars that are bright red but they don’t count because they’re lip paints. So this is my first red lipstick and it makes me want to do a Snow White tutorial. Hazard is a beautiful color. It doesn’t look as dark as it does on the stick, and actually comes out a stunning bright red, one that matches my skin tone perfectly. It’s the one Geisha’s wear and one that Snow White would be proud of. It’s beautiful.

But what is a lipstick if it’s no good. I actually really liked the texture and smoothness of the lipstick. This baby applies very well and pigmented, smoothly and although it gives great coverage, it also feels very light on the lips which I love. It has a semi-matte look that still gives leeway for looking like you’ve come straight out of a poster. I give this lipstick for sure a thumbs up! I can’t say much about lasting power just yet but I am impressed with the smoothness, lightness and coverage of it.

Red lips can be tricky. You need one that matches your skintone. If you get the right lipstick for your skintone, it’s becomes a red bright beam of red goodness as you can see. I love the color. I don’t know if I’ll be wearing it out anytime soon but we will see.

And of course since I don’t wear red lips often, I had to have a little fun. If you like red lip looks, I have done a Dita Von Teese make-up tutorial that you might wanna check out! It’s using the OCC lip tars though.

3. Topshop Make-up Highlighters

I love highlighters, I think they make a great difference in making your nose a little slimmer and your cheeks seem a little higher. I’m always on the hunt for the next best highlighter. When I first saw the Topshop sunbeam highlighter, it reminded me a lot of the NARS albatross highlighter and although that isn’t obviously gold, it has gold shimmer. After swatching it at the store, it appeared highly pigmented so I was like eh, why not?

I don’t know about this one to be honest. It looks a little yellow for my liking and isn’t as “natural” looking as I’d like. I don’t really want to look like I just came out of an Egyptian history book nor want to be Cleopatra’s best friend. It does have a nice shimmer, but it could use some neutral tones to balance it out. I’ll still have to figure out a new way of using this. I do love the texture and pigmentation of this highlighter and I may even use it as an eye-shadow.

4. Topshop Make-up Nail Polish

The last baby I got was the Topshop nail polish in Ice Crush. This was the first thing I grabbed off the shelf. I have seen too many awesome instagram pictures of your glittery nail art that when I look down at my plain jane mono-chrome toes, my tail (if I have one – don’t worry I don’t) goes down. When my friend showed me her Nubar  white/silver glitter accent nail amongst her other teal blue fingers, I immediately put that glitter nail polish on my wish list. But seeing this, I thought it would make a great dupe. The nails you see there took about 3-4 coats but it is glitter so you can’t expect much. It went on smooth with no problems!

I hope you liked my “comprehensive” review and although pretty long, I hope it helped!

Love,
Roseanne

Hey Everyone!

It’s no surprise how much I am in love with the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette – not because everyone else loves it or the fact that there are probable queues outside Sephora right now begging for it – but because genuinely, it’s pure awesome. To me, getting a single shadow from a store is a waste of money. I’ll probably never finish just one color and getting a palette for me is tons more worth the price. I know how ridiculously long over-due this review is, but if you’re thinking of getting the Naked 2 Palette – Girl, you gotta stop thinking, and start saving because I’m going to tell you straight off – it’s worth it.  Here’s my take on this daily baby and my everyday eye tutorial to boot. At the end, I’ll tell you whether you should be getting the Naked or Naked 2. Get the Naked 2.

What’s the package like?

The Naked 2 Palette comes with 12 shades, a double sided brush and a lip gloss which aren’t pictured because I don’t really use either. The main star of the show of course are the shadows. I’ve never really been disappointed with Urban Decay eye-shadows. The color payoff is amazing, the texture is great and I don’t have trouble with creasing. That’s probably why they’re the only shadows I use in tutorials. The only thing I would watch out for is really chunky eye-shadows like Midnight Cowboy which tend to cause a lot of fall-out. Thankfully, the palette doesn’t include much of those ones. It does have a majority of shimmery shades than matte but includes a good matte black. At first glance, it seems that Urban Decay has provided a lighter overall palette that might be unsuitable for dark smokey eye lovers like yours truly but upon using it, it’s much more versatile than the first Naked palette because the colors are build-able. You can make more looks with the palette in other words. It also comes in much sturdier packaging, similar to the tin case you brought to school with your pens and pencils. It’s shall I say more heavy duty. As you can see, I already hit pan on “suspect”. Whoops.

But seriously, how can I prove a point if I don’t show you how to use the eye-shadows. So here’s a tutorial of my eye-look that I do daily, plus or minus the false lashes. It’s a look that’s versatile and a neutral smokey eye everyone should learn to do if they choose to get this palette. I’m also using my three favorite eye-shadow brushes – the M.A.C 217, 224 and a sigma pencil brush. You can easily learn the basics of how to create any smokey eye with this tutorial.

Step 1: Start with a neutral shimmery base shade. Not too shimmery though. Suspect is perfect for this to add a little glisten to your lids. Don’t forget to apply a primer beforehand. You know my favorite is the Urban Decay Primer Potion. Using the flat side of the M.A.C 217, apply the shadow all over the lid. As you can see, minimal difference but a slight enhancement that is more than needed.

Step 2: Here’s a trick with matte shadows. Once you apply a shimmery shadow on your lid, apply a matte darker color to your crease. This really makes the crease stand out because of the difference in finishes to your eye. It’s great to use the M.A.C 217 by just flipping it to it’s front. I love how versatile this brush is. It’s great to pack on color and blend at the same time for a flawless look. I’m using tease which is a plum brown in my crease.

Step 3: Use a pencil brush to apply a dark smokey plum like Busted into your outer V and tracing along your lid line as well. You basically want to cover your outer corner of your eye to add dimension. Using a pencil brush is great for this because it allows you to add color specifically where you want it – which is great for eye-definers like busted.

Step 4: Use the M.A.C 224 or any blending brush. I know the HDB stores in Singapore near Ang Mo Kio even sell blending brushes for a dollar. Those do just fine as well. Blend away the harsh lines and then it’s time for your liner. I’m using the Revlon Color-Stay on my lid line and my favorite pencil liner the Covergirl Liquid Line Blast for my waterline.

Step 5: Time for your lashes! This step in putting on your falsies is totally optional. To be honest, when I’m lazy, I don’t even bother putting false lashes on. But for the purpose of this tutorial and on days when I want to impress, I do. I love my Ardell 110 Natural lashes, I have not found any similar comparison. A trick to using false lashes is to get a tilty mirror and use tweezers to apply your lashes. Press in in the corners so you don’t get any loose ends and you’re done. Remember to apply your mascara like normal before you put on your lashes. Do your brows and viola, you are done with your eye-makeup.

Step 6: The last thing I do is touch-ups. I love using a good matte black for this job and blackout is amazing. I just use a little with my pencil brush and then apply it to my outer corner and outer v just to complete the look. It works like a charm.

To top it off, I’m using the new Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Plum, my new favorite that pairs well with a neutral eye. It’s kind of a very similar color to the Chanel Rouge Allure in Darling that I usually wear but this is tons cheaper.

and you are finished! As you can see, the shadows go on great and look great! I can’t express enough how much I love this palette.

Should I get the Naked 1 or Naked 2 Palette?

But seriously, the question of the day is probably – which palette should I get? Because honestly, not all of us have the moo-lah to get both. I would say skip the first palette and go for the second. I find that the first palette has shades that are too dark and the base shades are too light.

The only thing I really like about the Naked 1 palette is the two matte shades in Buck and Naked because together, they make the most perfect combination for any bold lip color. The Naked 2 palette is buildable in color and you can do so much more with it. The Naked 1 palette is too dark in my opinion to create many looks at all. I always find myself using an additional base shade from somewhere else because there are too many “definer” shades to choose from in the first one. Thus, get the Naked 2, it’s better, trust me! Maybe it’s also because half-baked and smog are really gold shades that I’m not used to using either. I just like the Naked 2 a lot better.

 So there you have it!

What do you think of the Naked Palettes? Which one are your favourites?

Hey Everyone!

I believe that my lashes have stage fright. They’re a little scared naturally to be out in the open. In fact, any longer and I might look like a potential Snuffleofogus from Sesame Street. True story. Today I’m going to be doing a review on the Maybelline Magnum Volum’ Express Ultracomb mascara. It’s coming out in Singapore if it hasn’t already and I have to say it’s one of my all time favorites. I love it!

The Brush:

The brush reminds me of a zebra which it shouldn’t because it’s yellow and black instead of black and white. And it’s not a brush, it’s a comb. It has black zebra stripes which are holes that fill in with the mascara and you use the non-curved side to apply the mascara which I know is a new behaviour. The first time I used it, bimbotic I know, I used the yellow and obviously nothing happened. So use the stripey side, please. Comb mascaras are actually underrated. They do better for me in terms of defining, curling and lengthening!

Packaging is cute. It’s yellow and bright.

Time for a Test Run!

But really, who cares? What we really care about is if this baby works. Let’s take it for a run. So this is me without any mascara on. As you can see my lashes like to stick straight out.

I then proceeded to curl my lashes. I always curl my lashes and I never apply mascara before curling it first. It becomes a messy, mess.

The results:

And then after a 2-3 coats of the mascara, look at that! Magnificence! I love it. It really does define and lengthen while keeping the curl. Plus, my lashes don’t droop quickly either. You don’t have to worry too much about layering the mascara, but 2-3 coats work best. I experienced no smudging from my make-up onto my waterline. I can’t really think of any downsides actually!

So there you have it, the Maybelline Magnum Volum Ultracomb is defo a mascara you should look into getting! Do explore comb mascaras instead of the ones with bristles. You’ll be pleasantly surprised. Hope you liked this post and let me know if you have any questions below!

Much Love,

Hey Everyone!

One of my favourite make-up products of all time has to be the eyeshadow duos that NARS provides. They’re pigmented and you can clearly see why the two colors are married in the pan as the color combinations are well thought out and they should be, looking at the price tag. On my facebook page, I recently posted a picture of me off to a 21st, and I was requested quite a bit to do a tutorial:

So here I am with a tutorial and a little review of the NARS Eurydice Duo, one of my easy to do looks for any night or dinner out. It’s a duo I highly recommend. I won mine from a YouTube giveaway on TheSPNation! I usually judge my eyeshadows based on the packaging, colors, pigmentation and texture. Here’s a product description:

Packaging

The standard NARS packaging is a brand icon. It is a silicone feel skin which is not a good thing for clean freaks because it sticks to powder like honey and bees. The size of the duos are exactly the same size as a NARS blush and with a split pan, it’s more than enough product to last for quite a while. The colors match well and kind of remind me of the evil villain in Little Mermaid, forgot that octupus’ name though! Purple and black make for a really nice combination for any night look.

Color/Pigmentation

The NARS Eurydice has a beautiful purple and charcoal shade. The purple is absolutely magical because it has a slight blue shimmer undertone so that it produces a blue and purple sheen when applied. The charcoal is unique as well producing a slight dark silver after application. Both are almost what you call three dimensional shades. Depending on how much you need to apply, the shadows are sure not to disappoint. They are pigmented especially swatched on the fingertips but when swiped on the arm, the results aren’t half as bad either.

Texture

Soft, blendable, probably as good as you can get.

Overall, NARS eyeshadows are definitely worth the price you are paying. I’m glad to say that the duos from NARS make makeup application super easy. All you really need is two colors and NARS communicates that beautifully.

Let’s get on with the tutorial!

Step 1: Apply the purple shade all over the lid. I’m using the MAC 217 to do this, one of my favourite eye brushes of all time.

Step 2: Apply the dark charcoal shade in the outer half/corner of your lids to give dimension. I like to use a pencil brush for this to specifically apply the color

Step 3: Blend away harsh lines

Step 4: Apply the charcoal shade to your waterline and then up onto your lower part of  your outer corner to re-emphasize the shades after blending.

Step 5: Apply your eyeliner. I’m using a sharp liquid liner for the lid line (Benefit Magic Ink) and then I’m using a pencil liner for my waterline. This is one of my favourite all time eye-liners – the Sportsgirl Draw the Line – as it reminds me of the MAC Technakohl in Graphblack but for half the price. Plus, it stays on without giving you panda eyes! It’s only available in Australia.

Step 6: Apply your mascara and false lashes. I love my Ardell false lashes in natural 110, they are the best natural looking false lashes and are great for everyday!

Then, you’re done. It’s a cool more sinister and mysterious looking combination that I love!

Hope you like it! Overall,  I give this five out of five little Roseannes :)

Hey Everyone!

It’s mah birthday! So I thought I might blog today. It’s raining though – like the kind of rain that stays for the entire day. Oh man, should have probably blogged about something more fun like what I want to be like in another 20 years or something but instead I decided to give you a review of the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner.

This has been totally raved – like a total rave party gone wild. It’s one of Bobbi Brown’s best-sellers and was a product I wanted to get my hands on for quite a while until Cosme-De.com gave them to me to review for y’all.  (Score!) This my 100% true opinion.  Let’s go!

Bobbi Brown’s standard liners are a plenty but probably the best two selling colors are the sepia ink and the black ink. Pictured here below is the black ink – the standard black, great for any look really.

The next shade is the Sepia Ink which is a dark brown – pleasant for neutral eyes. There’s a current trend of brown liners and mascaras. I personally don’t look good in brown long wear gel eyeliners because I need to bring on the bold to accentuate my smaller eyes. Nonetheless, they both carry the same consistency and texture but just only vary in shade. The packaging is cute with a matte black cover on a glass jar. Standard liner that doesn’t come with the brush.

Saying that, you’ll need to get your own brush for this recipe. Many like to use the angled liner brush for this but I love using the fine tip synthetic. This is the MAC 209 brush but any will do. Even going to your local shops to find $1 brushes would do really. Make sure the tip is not too thin but rather substantial to pick up enough of the product. It’s not liquid so make sure your brush isn’t floppy.

Let’s start with a “bare” canvas. This is me without liner on but with my standard eye-shadow. And..yes I do have the face done too. Tehe.

You really don’t need a lot of the product to go a long way. One thing i noticed about this stuff was that it’s not as creamy as the MAC blacktrack in that when you swipe the product with your brush, it doesn’t really dip down but swipes upon the surface, still picking up the product you need. It’s nice to save more for your buck and it won’t get as messy when you apply it.

Then apply the liner by starting from the inner corner. I always like to wing mine out.

The line is pigmented and goes on very nicely and smoothly. No complaints there.

Now what about the lasting finish? Pretty good. It lasts a great deal of time and doesn’t smudge in 8 hours. It stays pigmented.

Final Verdict? It’s not utterly amazing like it was created from the elixir of life or something. It’s comparable to any other gel liner I’ve used. It does the job. Honestly though, I don’t like using an additional step with the brush but that’s not the products fault, that’s just my preference. Gel liners don’t create as fine a tip or job as liquid pencil liners but it’s more controllable and is great for anyone staring out because it gets an A in pigmentation and ease of application. Honestly, you can get it cheaper and you don’t have to buy this. It really depends on you. It’s good but there are substitutes unless you are a raving Bobbi Brown fan like I’m becoming.

On a more personal note!

Yes it’s mah birthday. Haha. I am not rubbing it in, I’m just documenting my transition into becoming an actual adult although a lot of people think I’m a lot older and they get a little shock when I tell them my actual age. I’m 20. I wonder if anything miraculous happens like the scene from swan princess when the swan turns into Odette. I’m hoping not because that looks painful, but I hope that being 20 will bring on great things. Don’t we all. Although the weather today isn’t much telling me that it will, I hope it will. What am I saying? I mean what are you supposed to say in birthday messages like these haha. Oh well, I shall go now.

Hey Everyone!

First off, I hope you are having a splendid Christmas Eve. If you still believe in Santa, disregard what others have to say, he’s coming. He also likes chocolate chip cookies but keep the milk low fat because he’s watching his weight.

Anyway, today I’ll be doing a review of one of my favourite products and probably one that is most misunderstood – it’s the M.A.C Prep + Prime Eye. It’s a lid concealer and one that I use daily. I might skip on the UDPP that day, but I’ll never skip on this. It’s the key to create a bare canvas upon your lids so that your eye-shadows show more true to colour and at times more vivid. Let’s explore what this baby does shall we?

Packaging:

If the UDPP could ever be re-packaged, I’d actually prefer it to be packaged this way. It’s a thin disc like cylinder that houses an adequate amount of product (I’ve had this for more than a year, and I use it every day) and I know I’m just about done but you only need a smear for each eye to do the job. I love how I just open, smear, and blend. No mess, no fuss.

After I apply my foundation, my eyes don’t match the rest of my face. The excuses are numerous but one that I’ve made up for myself is that the skin around my eye is more sensitive or the more annoying answer is that I use too dark an eye-shadow. Whatever it may be, often, I need a lid concealer to create a bare canvas. The skin is a little different. Of course you could go on and say – oh Roseanne, why don’t you just use your foundation, why don’t you just use a normal concealer? You could very well do that. You could also ditch the idea of using an eye-cream and just use your normal face moisturiser instead. It’s all a matter of preference, really.

The application is easy. Again – smear it on your fingertip and apply it your lid. Blend until the discoloration magically disappears. Be careful not to cake this stuff on as well – it might increase your chance of creasing.

Of course later in the review, I will be comparing it to the Urban Decay Primer Potion, but the most important distinction is that they do different things. The M.A.C Prep + Prime is a lid concealer (much like the Benefit’s Lemon-Aid) to create a bare canvas while the UDPP does the job of making your shadows long lasting and much more colourful. People have stated how much they hate the Prep+Prime because their shadows fade or crease later in the day but that’s not what it’s supposed to do. It’s really only supposed to match the colour to the rest of your face. You can see the difference here.

To prove my point, let’s proceed with the vivid colour test. I’ve swatched the darker brown of my NARS Cordura eye-shadow duo with nothing over top and have compared it with two things – when it is swatched overtop the UDPP (Urban Decay Primer Potion) and the MAC Prep + Prime Eye. Honestly, the UDPP does a better job in the vivid colour test as it’s more true to colour, but the Prep+Prime doesn’t do a bad job at all!

The true test though comes with a test of staying power. I took a tissue with water and rubbed my hand hard to sort of fast forward time and this is the result. As you can see the UDPP swatch survives all of them, and the Prep+Prime Eye does poorly in terms of staying power. Again, it’s a lid concealer, not really an eye-shadow primer if that makes sense.

Thus, what I often do is apply the UDPP over the Prep+Prime. I know UDPP has Eden, which is supposed to do both so that is probably the next product I’ll try out! I hope you enjoyed this review!

One more thing! I’d like to ask a favour from you. My friend and I are currently in the midst of opening an online store of brush holders. One thing that is important to us is that we have your say on what looks best. I did a sample this morning and here it is, tell me what you think of it! The colours aren’t fixed of course, and will be customisable and so will the decor. What trinkets do you all like?

We want to make sure that we have created holders that you have created along with us. It’s going to be a fun partnership and we’d love to hear what you want on your brush holder, what your favourite colours are, what patterns you like, anything really! BTW, this one smells like sweet peach thanks to some fragrance beads I was able to get a hold of as well, tell me what fruity smells you like as well ;)

Your feedback is tons appreciated – So far, we’ve gotten feedback that you like it, but you want the holder to be slightly taller and the colours to be different. Will do ;)

What do you think?

Roseanne

Hey Everyone,

The Urban Decay Book of Shadows isn’t just a makeup item, the whole lot have easily become the collectibles of the makeup world, making these babies pretty special. Perhaps it was the exclusivity, the mad rush to book a palette, the fact that it was a Disney and Alice in Wonderland collaboration that made the previous book of shadows so successful. Yet, the NYDC palette didn’t really rock the boat and I was surprised to see it still in stores when I came home from Melbourne but knowing that they are limited edition, I quickly swept one off the shelf.

I don’ know what it is, but I keep thinking to myself, “was it just an impulse buy or is the new Urban Decay NYDC Book of Shadows Vol. III really worth it?”

Let’s look at it first. Here, we can actually judge a book by its cover. Cover wise, I say maybe a 7/10.

It’s cluttered and vibrant just like how I remembered New York back when I made my visits there during the summer but some of the sketches seem a little..too sketchy. It could be bettered colored but it lights up, it’s cute. It pushes a “niceeeee” but probably nothing more than that. Unique, but not there yet.

Ok it’s pretty, now what?

From Temptalia, here are some product specifications:

The palette includes 16 eyeshadows (0.03 oz. each, total of 0.48 oz.), 2 miniature-sized eyeliners (0.03 oz. each, total of 0.06 oz.), and 1 minature-sized Primer Potion (0.13 fl. oz.). To break down the value for you, this represents $163.20 worth of eyeshadow ($340/oz.), $25.50 worth of eyeliner ($425/oz.), $6.88 of Primer Potion ($52.94/fl. oz.). In sum, it’s the equivalent of $195.58 worth of Urban Decay products. You will, of course, have to spend much more as individual products are all slightly bigger (e.g. each full-size eyeshadow retails for $17).

What was I thinking, it’s totally value for money. Again. Ok, ok, I know I know, I have a lot of makeup already and I shouldn’t use the volume of product as justification because I already have too much. But, no seriously, good stuff especially if you need eyeshadows and a smoky color palette suits most of needs. Hey, I’m raising my hand. What if you already own the Alice in Wonderland, well the color palette is a little different, Alice in Wonderland is more purple and whimsical, this is more party up blue with lots of neutrals but you can smoke any neutral up with the matte black it provides. You won’t go wrong with eyeshadows from Urban Decay – only the super chunky monkey glitter ones are a let down like the Midnight Cowboy Rides Again – which I am not a fan of.

SwatchFest:

First Row:

Second Row:

Third Row:

Fourth Row:

Liners/Primer Potion:

The palette offers seven new and exclusive shades (Bordello, Kush, Loaded, Money, Radium, Rockstar, and Suspect) and keeps it old school with 7 shades from the permanent line ( Snatch, Last Call, Maui Wowie, Midnight Cowboy Rides Again, Smog, Perversion, and Uzi). That being said, you do get value for money. You get seven new shades, another collectibles item, quality AND quantity. However, if you already have a lot of things in your collection, unless collecting these babies means something to you, there would be no need to get repeat shadows if you have similar ones from other brands and you don’t use shadows often. On the plus side, there’s many reasons to like this baby, but maybe it’s my own justification for spending 88 bucks.

…now what’s your say?

Hi :)

This review has been sponsored by The Beauty Club (www.thebeautyclub.com.au) but of course, it’s 100% honesty to the maximum.

Beautiful packaging with the wand being very similar to the Rimmel Sexy Curves. I haven’t tried that mascara before though.

I had high hopes for this one, more because it was loved by TheCurrentCustom. But, I was a bit dissapointed. At the beggining, I absolutely hated it but I realized that all mascaras start a little wet right off the batt and you need a little more time so that the product dries a bit for it to perform at its best, but even its best disappointed. I mean, I still like the stuff. When you have eyeshadow on, it gives your lashes the dimension you need. Eyeshadow off..um. Yea.

It’s one of those mascaras that apply beautifully, panorama, length and volume but blink a bit and the curl is gone. It sort of sticks straight out like this:

I know, welcome to Pore-city. Sorry.

Although its curl disappoints, its volume and lengthening power exceeds most mascaras I’ve tried. The curl is mediocre, but the volume and length receives a thumbs up! Overall, its a 3.5 – 4/5 A little higher because my lashes are probably the most stubborn out there, it would probably be a level better on your lashes. View the video for a more complete review:

For some reason,  I can’t place my video review here..

Honestly, I like it. But, save your money and get another.

Update on Life:

I’m free! Except, I keep on feeling that I have to study the next day. It’s kind of boring actually and I can’t wait to go home on Saturday :) I will be going to Hong kong for a weekend on the 15th so I’ll be looking forward to that I guess but hopefully we have an onsugar meetup soon! Will update this later, I just spent the last few hours doing the banner so I don’t feel like blogging haha.

Hey Everyone,

I don’t know about you but I have always been on the search for that special eye pencil that won’t drip, smudge or budge especially when applied on my water line and tight line. I’ve tried countless pencils – Revlon Colorstay, Maybelline, Clinique – but they have all been kicked aside as the disappointments of my make-up collection. I have only recently found MAC Technakohl in Graphblack and more so an answer to all my problems – Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencils.

* Disclaimer: I was not sponsored these products and this is what I truly think of them.

Top 3 Reasons why I’ve Fallen in LOVE <3:

1. They Don’t BUDGE!

Keep your hands free because you won’t  be swiping your undereye area anymore. Finally, there is a pencil that won’t turn you into a panda – and not a cute one at that.  Additionally, Eric Jimenez claims that they’re great for the water line and tight line and are totally safe! So, I have to say that this is my holy grail pencil (in Zero) to give me stunning eyes (if they are at all *blush* haha).

2. They come in Striking Colors!

These colors aren’t boring – they are definitely beauty with an edge. Metallic, golden and highly pigmented its really easy to create designs and add color to any eye look. Look at the swatches and you’ll know what I mean:

3. You can use them in SO many ways :)

Not only are they eye-liners, they can be used as shadesticks as well for an all over lid color. You can also apply eye-shadows onto the liners to give the shade more dimension or use the liners on the outer corner to create a more defined look. Having these pencils are like mini brushes with pigment. They are so soft and blendable so anything is possible, really.

My Only Product Boo-Boo.

They simply aren’t retractable. I hate having to deal with getting a pencil sharpener and getting these soft pencils all over the sharperner making them hard to clean. And then, when I want to sharpen another pencil, I kinda mix the two colors. Sometimes when they are too sharp, they poke on my eye-lids :(. Ow, Oh the horror. But there are advantages. A blunt edge makes it easier to use the liner as a shade-stick and its easier to create a smoky look with a swipe of the pencil and brush to blur it. For me? I would mainly use them as liners so having a retractable like the MAC technakohl would be best for me:

If I don’t blog before Chinese New Year, I just want to wish everyone Gong Xi Fa Cai! :)

Roseanne
