Hey Everyone!
Today, I’m going to be doing a review on the NEW Shu Uemura Caligraph:Ink Eyeliner. You’ve probably spotted it at basically every Shu Uemura counter and when I first saw it, being an eyeliner addict, I wanted to have it. To be honest, I was expecting this to be the a really good eyeliner. Shu Uemura happens to have very high quality products and almost all of them I’ve tried so far hasn’t at all been disappointing so when I got my hands on this, I really couldn’t wait. And I am happy to tell you write off the bat, that it’s a pretty good eyeliner.
Shu Uemura claims that this eyeliner is different because it gives you the ability to draw basically any thickness. Whether it’s a super thin lash line at 0.05mm width or a more bold look at all the way to 2.0mm in width. It has a carbon black formula and supple brush that enables you to draw along any eye shape. They also claim that Caligraph:Ink eyeliner is waterproof, sweat-proof and it even has a refillable package! I think that this refill option is super handy and the refill will be cheaper than getting the eyeliner itself so it’s great if you really do love it and use it everyday.
What do I think about it? In terms of pigmentation, it is quite magical. It is really black and there is no trace of fading whatsoever. It draws really well and the product comes out very easily and smoothly. Because of the fine tip though, I feel that you really do have to have a steady hand as the brush tip is quite “supple” and is easily manipulated. Shaky hands will have a problem as it is very sensitive to draw. Kind of like driving a car on ice when you first use the product. It’s a feeling you need to get used to but after you have taken full reigns, then it’s all tulip fields after that. Even I had to take a bit of time to get used to the feeling.
It feels a lot like using a thin tip paint brush. The tip moves as you apply it but I like how it excretes the right amount of eyeliner formula onto the eye. You really can create thin and thick shapes with the eyeliner depending on how hard you press. I was really suprised when I decided to wear only eyeliner one day with no eye primer or eyeshadow underneath and it really stayed even with sweating. It is extremely waterproof and sweat proof because I was sweating like a cow that day and it was as black after 9 or so hours as when I applied it with no signs of fading. I was very impressed by that.
Overall, it’s pretty amazing. It’s the best in sweat proof and waterproof I’ve tried yet and it gives you an extremely black line. I also like how it comes with a refill and the versatility of lines it can do. But let’s face it, usually us everyday people use only one line and that’s the line that’s going on our eyes but it’s nice to have an option. The only downside to it is that it’s like a swerving car on ice when you first use it. You need to get used to the feeling of how smooth it applies. Sometimes it can be too much of a good thing.
