Hey Everyone!

indulge

There’s nothing like a DIY facial with a packet of face masks from the fridge but I find that my skin becomes multitudes better after a facial that’s been done. With so many facial salons out there, it’s hard to pick the right one! But,  about two weeks ago, I went to visit Indulge Spa for their Intensive Skin Renewal Facial and was very impressed with the results even after one week!

Indulge Spa can be found at The Star Vista Mall and was established in 2003 providing beauty solutions for their clients. What is super special about them is that they mix both Western and Traditional Chinese medicine within their both face and body treatments and are aimed to detox the body. They are also a proud partner of premium beauty brand Sothy’s and use their products widely in their services.

sothys

The treatment I tried was the Intensive Skin Renewal Facial. This facial is for all skin types and ages and dramatically improves acne skin as well. Jean, the founder at Indulge spa told me about a girl who had a serious case of acne but as she returned to get this treatment, her skin with before and after photos kept improving! It aims to stimulate collagen and elastin production to firm the skin and also lighten blemishes.

Essentially, the main star of the show was the Chemical Peel. After removing all of my make-up and a deep cleanse, the therapist applied the chemical peel on me. As you can see, there are cotton pads on my eyes! A chemical peel doesn’t sound as harmful as it does. It’s simply fruit acids that help renew the skin, lighten blemishes and stimulate collagen production. The feeling was very tingly and prickly but no pain no gain. The skin looked glowing after the chemical peel session which we then proceeded to my least favourite part, extraction, and then a Sothy’s clay mask to absorb all the impurities. After everything, my skin couldn’t look any more glowing!

Indulge Spaexperie

But of course, I like to wait at least week after the facial for my face to settle into the results and I’m still impressed. My pores were visibly reduced and my skin looks glowing – still. I especially noticed my forehead which really looked super smooth! Overall, very pleased with the Skin Renewal Facial at Indulge Spa!

As I’ve noted before, they’re also known for their traditional Chinese medicine treatments including cupping which involves suction cups to remove toxins or even slim you down. One of their most popular treatments is in fact their Cupping Slimming Treatment that aims to help you slim down naturally. And of course they are also in top in facial technology offering IPL, RF, Oxyjet and other treatments as well. Who could forget? You can even get your mani and pedi done ;)

Overall I had a great experience at Indulge Spa!  You can find them at The Star Vista Mall (which is a mall you need to go to and may eventually beat ION in terms of architectural design) at #B1-27 – give them a call to make an appointment at  6694 2072!  Thank you Indulge Spa for sponsoring me!

Benefit Fake Up1

I was recently invited to the launch of Benefit’s brand new concealer, Fake-Up! Benefit is the Queen when it comes to faking it. Whether it be eyelashes, radiance or even a flawless complexion. Now, they’ve found a product finally worthy of the name and that’s this concealer. P.S I had an amazing time at the launch, loved the skit they did below!

whataskit

The new concealer comes in extra chic packaging and an absolutely beautiful tube and the stick form makes it easy for girls on the go. What makes this concealer different from the rest? It’s wrapped with a “hydrating core”. Basically your pigment comes from the core of the product and a moisturising balm wraps around the pigment. So, when you glide, you get a mix of moisturisation and the concealer.

fakeup2

The main objective of this concealer is that it provides the coverage without the creasing. Because it’s slightly sheer when you glide it, you don’t end up building lots of the product up, preventing creasing. Dry air or even air conditioning might separate some concealers leaving it to crease but because of the hydrating core in Benefit’s fake up concealer, this worry is basically gone!

fakeup5

The concealer comes in three shades – light, medium and deep. However, if you’re an extra dark skin tone, it’s hard to find your shade here. The Deep probably matches an NC40 – 45. I was surprised to see that the concealer is wrapped in the hydrating core and not the other way!  But because of this reason, I feel like sometimes I’m putting more of a moisturiser on than a concealer.

IMG_8359

However, don’t be fooled when you first swatch the product at the counter. When you first swatch the product, the hydrating core doesn’t really blend with the concealer and it feels a bit like a slippery mess. You’re wondering at this stage, how is this concealer going to cover anything? However, once you blend and wait, you’ll see that your skin absorbs most of the balm leaving the concealer. It does hide well and is good alternative for people who want to hide undereyes without the fuss of patting in a liquid concealer. But, in any case I wouldn’t use this for serious eyebags but for light to medium pandas like me, it works just fine!

Hope you liked this post! Update on the online store – we’ve been testing and there are some technical issues that need to be solved on our end. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to fix these in time for the proposed launch date on Wednesday. Most likely, it will unfortunately have to be after Chinese New Year! Probably better for all of us though but I will keep you posted!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Hey Everyone!

If you hate bb creams because they never match your skintone, then you’re in for a treat, finally! In fact, the Bobbi Brown BB cream is one of those products you return to after a while and start loving again. I think in a cold country like London, the Bobbi Brown BB Cream’s glowy finish performs much better than humid Singapore and with a very rare warm undertone, it’s a gem in this crazy BB race!

The Bobbi Brown BB Cream is SPF 35 PA+++ which is a reasonable range as most BB creams are at SPF 25. Bobbi Brown also claims that this baby covers imperfections and evens the skintone, helps control oil, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and brightens dull skintone over time. I can’t say much about wrinkles but obviously being SPF 35, it should shield you against UVA and UVB rays as it also claims. The BB cream also comes in a uniquely extenstive range of shades which I think is this BB cream’s winning point. You in fact have 5 shades to choose from, all in natural skintones of our skin. Nothing blue or overly white, something that makes me extremely happy.

The cream itself is a good creamy texture that doesn’t feel to heavy on either. It blends well into the skin and gives you medium coverage although just like any bb cream, don’t bet on it to cover your scars. You’ll need a high coverage foundation for that. But I like how the texture is a stable consistency. Nothing overly watery that makes me feel a little insecure nor too thick so that I feel like I’m wearing a mask. It’s pretty much perfect.

Applying the the Bobbi Brown BB Cream:
But seriously, what’s a review, without applying it! Let’s put it on shall we and see it on skin!

The BB cream blends easily in and I feel like for once, I can actually apply it like a normal foundation without thinking it’s going to look too white or cakey. I love it! You’ll also notice that the BB cream leaves an extremely glowy finish, borderline oily which is why I didn’t like it in Singapore that much because I tend to oil up in those climates a lot. It wasn’t waterproof either in a humid country and that’s why I leaned more on my Rachel K CC cream. However, in cold weather like now in London, I can wear it comfortably without worrying too much.

It does look a bit too warm now doesn’t it? It does gradually adjust to your original skin color and matches perfectly after a few minutes so make sure you give it some time to do that. As the claims say, it does even out imperfections and pores and definitely brightens. However, the oil control on this bb cream is poor and if you have oily skin and need something not as glowy, you should get something else.

Overall, I really like this BB Cream. I thought I didn’t but after using it more now that I want to change my face routine up a little, I’m getting back to really liking it especially in the dry and cold weather here in London. Some pointers, it’s finally a bb cream that will suit your warm undertone but will give you a glowy finish so let’s hope that’s how you roll!

I hope you liked this review!

Hey Everyone!

Foaming foundations are now the new in the world of make-up. We have cream, liquid, powder even mousse and now it comes in a can. I mean, who would have known right? The first time I spotted a foaming foundation was the Maybelline Pure Mineral BB Mousse. I thought it was really cool and innovative but I expected the foundation to have poor coverage and to be extremely light. Little did I know I was wrong. When I saw the Maybelline Dream Nude Air Foam on shelves in Australia, I grabbed it off the shelves to review.

Maybelline claims that this product is 100% lightweight and offers nude perfection (whatever that means) and gives you effortless application because of the fine pigments. A concern I had was if it would break out on sensitive skin. I have uber sensitive skin these days and I’m pretty prone to break-outs and I’ve heard that foaming products have a chemical in it that isn’t so good for your skin. I’ve been wearing it though and have not seen any major complications.

In terms of packaging, the foam comes of course in a can with a pump applicator. You have to be careful because the moment you press down on that pump, the foundation poofs out in a huge ball of foam. So, be easy when you pump it out especially the first time. Overall, I like the whole look. It’s compact to carry around and I’ve always been a major fan of Maybelline dream nude products.

In terms of the texture of the Maybelline Dream Nude Air Foam is…well..foam. Which means when you pick it up in your fingers, it kind of disappears into a liquid and the more you play with it, it turns into a watery texture when the foam melts. When spread over the face, you can see tiny bubbles that fade later on. The trail leaves a a very lightweight trail of coverage that is surprisingly medium coverage. Because it disappears as you apply it, I don’t know whether the foam remains just a gimmick.

But what’s foundation if you don’t apply it. For application, applying this is complicated and I would disagree with the claim of it being effortless application. Do not apply this by just putting that puff of foam on your face and spreading it around unless you’re asking for a complete mess. Trust me, that statement comes from experience! Instead, it’s best to take a little of the foundation at a time and pat it on your face. Don’t bother with using brushes or sponges, clean fingers will be best for this job because it doesn’t absorb a lot of the foundation like brushes and sponges do.

But after the tough part, the finish is surprisingly flawless and natural. What I liked about it is that it dries matte so that you don’t need to add an additional powder if you think the coverage is enough. Yet, it also leaves a nice and natural glow. To be honest, the finish that this foundation produces is the most natural that I’ve seen, fare more natural than cream, liquid or powder. It looks like real skin. The coverage you’ll be getting is  versatile because just as long as you pat it, the coverage is certainly buildable – from sheer to full.

The downside of this is that it doesn’t last long, at all. You get the natural finish but you probably won’t get it for long so I would suggest this if you don’t have a lot of acne or blemishes unless you don’t mind them appearing in the middle of the day. I also just feel that I should tell you that I don’t know how good it is for your skin. There’s something really unnatural about foundation in a can that even I can’t get over. It does also oxidize on your hand into a gross orange but on your face, it doesn’t oxidise much and certainly not into an orange color.

S0 there you have it! My review of the Maybelline Dream Nude Airfoam Foundation. For more, you can check the video out to see the foundation in action:

The Good – very lightweight and natural feeling and coverage. The bad- application is complicated and it’s not long lasting. Now it’s up to you to decide!

Hey Everyone!

We all know that Topshop makeup has been around for a while now. The definetly different packaging of white chalk on black paper, squiggly sketches of make-up products has always caught my attention but I never really dove in for the kill until now.  I’m like a stubborn cat when I’m shopping. When I want to go shopping, I really go shopping. When I want to try something out, I want to try it all. And if I’m not in the mood, my parents have even begged me to buy something. Anyway, enough of being silly, here’s my take, opinion, review, whatever floats your boat of the majority of the make-up products.  Let’s get started.

1. Topshop Make-up Eyeshadows

I picked out the Smokey Eye Palette in Smouldering – it’s 4 dark and semi shimmery colors – but they come out more matte than shimmery. I tend to like eye-shadow palettes much better because I have a ton of eye-shadow and I shouldn’t add any more full-size babies to my collection. Cute enough, the set comes with a little mini tutorial brochure telling you how to apply these shadows. Apply the gray all over the lid, the dark maroon in your outer corner and then use the black to line your lids. The white shade can be used to highlight your brow then remember to blend everything together.

In terms of pigmentation, the color payoff is great when swatched which is no suprise really. The only “problem” I had with them was the blendability or “softness” of the shadow. Even if you’re talking about dry eye-shadow if you know eye-shadow well enough, you would know what I mean by “soft”. Soft eye-shadows pack on great color at the first pat on your lids and blend very well and effortlessly on your lids. The reason why I love and always use the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette is because it does just that. So does the Wet N’ Wild palette. Love those babies. So although pigmentation is good, they aren’t soft enough. But if you’re not a picky eater, you probably wouldn’t know the difference.

2. Topshop Make-up Lipsticks

Call me a little nuts, but this lipstick is my first bright red lipstick. I have two OCC liptars that are bright red but they don’t count because they’re lip paints. So this is my first red lipstick and it makes me want to do a Snow White tutorial. Hazard is a beautiful color. It doesn’t look as dark as it does on the stick, and actually comes out a stunning bright red, one that matches my skin tone perfectly. It’s the one Geisha’s wear and one that Snow White would be proud of. It’s beautiful.

But what is a lipstick if it’s no good. I actually really liked the texture and smoothness of the lipstick. This baby applies very well and pigmented, smoothly and although it gives great coverage, it also feels very light on the lips which I love. It has a semi-matte look that still gives leeway for looking like you’ve come straight out of a poster. I give this lipstick for sure a thumbs up! I can’t say much about lasting power just yet but I am impressed with the smoothness, lightness and coverage of it.

Red lips can be tricky. You need one that matches your skintone. If you get the right lipstick for your skintone, it’s becomes a red bright beam of red goodness as you can see. I love the color. I don’t know if I’ll be wearing it out anytime soon but we will see.

And of course since I don’t wear red lips often, I had to have a little fun. If you like red lip looks, I have done a Dita Von Teese make-up tutorial that you might wanna check out! It’s using the OCC lip tars though.

3. Topshop Make-up Highlighters

I love highlighters, I think they make a great difference in making your nose a little slimmer and your cheeks seem a little higher. I’m always on the hunt for the next best highlighter. When I first saw the Topshop sunbeam highlighter, it reminded me a lot of the NARS albatross highlighter and although that isn’t obviously gold, it has gold shimmer. After swatching it at the store, it appeared highly pigmented so I was like eh, why not?

I don’t know about this one to be honest. It looks a little yellow for my liking and isn’t as “natural” looking as I’d like. I don’t really want to look like I just came out of an Egyptian history book nor want to be Cleopatra’s best friend. It does have a nice shimmer, but it could use some neutral tones to balance it out. I’ll still have to figure out a new way of using this. I do love the texture and pigmentation of this highlighter and I may even use it as an eye-shadow.

4. Topshop Make-up Nail Polish

The last baby I got was the Topshop nail polish in Ice Crush. This was the first thing I grabbed off the shelf. I have seen too many awesome instagram pictures of your glittery nail art that when I look down at my plain jane mono-chrome toes, my tail (if I have one – don’t worry I don’t) goes down. When my friend showed me her Nubar  white/silver glitter accent nail amongst her other teal blue fingers, I immediately put that glitter nail polish on my wish list. But seeing this, I thought it would make a great dupe. The nails you see there took about 3-4 coats but it is glitter so you can’t expect much. It went on smooth with no problems!

I hope you liked my “comprehensive” review and although pretty long, I hope it helped!

Hey Everyone!

I’m still looking for that perfect liquid foundation that gives me a radiant glow, is absolutely flawless and actually keeps throughout the day. I used to be a matte face fan but I realized that it was harder to keep my face matte considering my skin type than to just celebrate the fact that my face likes to glow. So I’m letting it glow.

Product Claims:

Today I’ll be doing a review of the Rimmel Wake Me Up liquid foundation that’s supposed to reawaken your skin with a radiant glow, be 100% pore less and flawless and eliminate the signs of tiredness to make you look younger. That sounds like a pretty good catch, but let’s see if this baby works!

 Packaging/Texture/Consistency:

I love the orange bottle of this foundation or maybe it’s just the fact that I like the color orange. The pump bottle is advantageous because the foundation is really thick, considerably thicker than most liquid foundations and has sort of a creme like consistency. So pouring it out will look like you’re trying to catch the last drops out of the ketchup bottle, not fun. So yay, it’s a pump!

How to Apply the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation:

But as with all products, the real test is putting it on real skin. Today, again, I shall be your personal Guinea pig. The best way to apply this foundation is with either your own fingers (because of its thick consistency) or with what I call the universal foundation brush that I love which is the Sigma F80. It’s a synthetic flat top kabuki that everyone needs to get and what I use for any kind of foundation, even mousse. Just put the foundation onto the back of your hand and use that as a palette.

Then swirl the foundation into your face. I was really impressed with the coverage and flawless finish of this foundation. It also covered pores really well. So, mega thumbs up in the coverage department as you’re talking medium to high coverage. Yet, the foundation still is able to look natural because of that glow. Keep in mind that it does have “illuminating pearls” and if  you look closely, there is a bit of shimmer, but on the face it doesn’t look noticeable.

I guess because of that glow, I look slightly more awake too. You do get a really nice radiant looking complexion from this foundation as you can see.

With full make-up, I have to say that this foundation has great coverage, great pore coverage, looks 100% flawless, and does make me look more “awake”. However because this foundation is thick and there is great coverage, be sure to get your correct shade because you may look like a floating head if you get the wrong one.

I would say the only gripe I have about this foundation, which is a pretty big gripe overall, is that it doesn’t keep throughout the day. After about 2-3 hours, you’ll see your foundation start to fade and if you press on, it’ll start to look like you are wearing a mineral foundation without that beautiful coverage. But overall, if you don’t mind that it doesn’t last but looking for a short event, then it’s a foundation that’s not too bad at all!

 Hope you liked this review!

What did you think about this foundation?

Love,

Roseanne

Hey Everyone,

I think if you know me enough, you would know that I’m a qualified foundation junkie. They’re essential make-up items, clearly because they serve as a base for the rest of your make-up and unlocks the key to looking flawless and polished. Without a good foundation or even application for that matter, you could look like the ghost from Casper instead of a hottie ready to take on the world. That being said, I’m always on the hunt to find the best foundations so today I’ll be doing a review of the L’Oreal Lumi Magique Light Infusing foundation which I have grown to love and wear daily now.

The L’Oreal Lumi Magique Light Infusing Foundation claims to do the following things:

So basically, you’re talking a natural complextion and a healthy glow with a little more staying power than other foundations. Let’s put it to the test.

Packaging & Texture:

I think this is one of the prettiest drugstore foundation bottles out there. I love how they used Rose gold for the color and it reminds me of a Michael Kors watch. It also comes with a pump which is convenient because it does have a lighter consistency than other foundations and if in a bottle, would cause major wastage. I love the texture of the foundation. It glides on super smooth and doesn’t leave a sticky finish. It has a great quality to it and is able to cover most flaws without feeling heavy. My color is in w3 Golden Beige.

Applying the L’Oreal Lumi Magique Light Infusing Foundation

But really the true test comes to putting it on. I’m using a synthetic flat top kabuki which is the number one brush I recommend for applying liquid foundation mainly because it blends foundation out flawlessly and is able to pat on the foundation for places where you want to double up as a concealer. I am absolutely in love with how natural this foundation feels on my skin. If feels very light and almost melts into what it’s trying to cover.

After application, you can see that there is a subtle glow but the shimmer is not obvious or overwhelming. I love how it completely matches my skin, even in undertone. Golden beige has a gold undertone that is able to illuminate the complexion. You can see that it doesn’t feel cakey nor does it look cakey and looks much like your natural skin, just that your flaws are now covered.

So overall, this foundation is for sure a winner. In terms of lasting power, expect a normal hold, not an extended one. I say about 6 hours and you probably want to look into sweeping some powder. But it’s turned out to be one of my favorite foundations in terms of finding natural looking coverage. Stay away if you have oily skin, the glow might complicate things. But for dry to combination skin, I’m sure you’ll find it quite the awesome.

Hope you liked this review!

Hey Everyone!

I’ve heard great things about this foundation and when Priceline (the local drugstore and drugstore make-up mecca in Australia) had a 2 for 1 deal on L’Oreal face products, I had to take the plunge and get it. The L’Oreal True Match foundation is a liquid foundation that is supposedly special because it matches your skin tone and skin texture with ultra fine pigments. So basically, it’s taking the whole “I’m wearing make-up but I still look natural” look to another level. I have to say after using it for a series of weeks, it has now made it to my list of favourite drugstore foundations. I love it for it’s light consistency, perfect coverage and flawless finish.

Packaging/Consistency:

Much to everyone’s pleasure, this foundation comes in a glass bottle and with a standard foundation pump, perfect because the consistency is a bit runny. That way, you save yourself from foundation messiness that I’ve pretty much come to know too well. The consistency of the foundation is light, very creamy and slightly runny. It reminds me of the Bobbi Brown Skin foundation, but a little thicker. Despite it’s semi-runny consistency, like egg whites, it provides fantastic coverage. You’re looking at a medium to hgh build.

Let’s put it to the test! Start bare, or with your standard moisturiser, sunscreen, primer, whatever you use. I don’t have anything on my skin right now.

Best Tool to Apply the L’Oreal True Match Foundation:

It’s best to use a synthetic fluffy kabuki with this foundation. The ability to buff the foundation in is nice if you want good coverage but still a flawless, non-cakey finish. I don’t suggest using your hands with it. It’s a bit of a mess to blend it in with fingers but blends quite well with a fluffy synthetic brush. I’m using the ones from Sigma.

Blend-ability of the L’Oreal True Match Foundation:

You’ll find that the foundation blends really nicely onto the skin. It’s very light and not heavy and does the job perfectly. It’s easy to apply and you’ll find almost zero streaking if done properly. The finish you get is amazing. Look how natural it becomes!

End Result/Finish of the L’Oreal True Match Foundation:

You get a semi-glow, perfect for Singapore weather. It’s not heavy, light enough to wear daily and a great match both to my skin texture and skin tone. I couldn’t be happier. I like to set it with a light mineral foundation and not a pressed powder or transparent powder because it brings on a more natural finish. I usually pair this with my Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Mineral Make-up – just a light sweeping with a stippling brush does wonderfully.

So there you have it! My honest opinion about a great product. Don’t expect this baby to last an uber long time. If you need lots of coverage that lasts you longer than average, the Rimmel Lasting Finish may fare better. Other than that, if you’re looking for a daily liquid foundation, this is pretty much a great bet that’s available pretty much in every country!

I hope you liked this review!

Hey Everyone,

I ought to be ashamed of myself. I have been in Australia for nearly 3 years now and I haven’t ventured much into Australian make-up brands. But don’t fret because it’s never too late to start to put my foot down on unexplored territory. Australia carries many local brands, just as much as it carries many Australian owned and made products. Visit the local make-up store and you’ll be sure to find brands like Australis, Gorgeous Cosmetics, Face of Australia and Napoleon Perdis dominating the scene.

Australis Cosmetics is a make-up brand that has been around for over twenty years. They focus on quality and affordable products for the beauty savvy and are commonly available at Priceline stores all across Australia. Today, I’ll be reviewing one of their foundations, the Australis Fresh and Flawless foundation, which happens to be one of my all time favourite drugstore foundations. At AUD $12.95, it can’t hurt to drop it in your shopping basket the next time you’re out either.

As any standard review, I’ll take a look at the claims, packaging, texture and blendability, and overall finish of the foundation! Let’s go!

Australis claims that this foundation does the following:

Thus, this foundation is supposed to be a medium to full coverage with a matte finish – providing oil control, coverage, moisture and sun protection. Time to see if those claims hold up.

Packaging:

Even though it’s $12.95 a pop, there isn’t that much product. It comes in a bright pink squeeze tube which is convenient for the consistency of the foundation but due to the nature of this, you’ll be using a little more than you usually do to get a desired finish (but totally worth it). In other words, you might find yourself running out faster than usual. I’ve already run out of mine. Seriously though, I’ve been using it everyday.

But what’s a foundation review if I don’t put the product on?

Application:

The best way to apply this foundation is with a paddle brush in quick and short strokes. This foundation dries very fast so you’ll have to be like speedy gonzales in application. You can already start to see that it does bring a nice medium to full-coverage on the skin. Any tool that will allow you to move fast will work. If you have quick hands, even better.

Texture and Blendability

The foundation has a nice creamy foundation consistency and feels very light after application making it great for an everyday foundation. Some people have complained that the foundation isn’t necessarily blendable. I would say that again you have to move fast and it seeps flawlessly into the skin as you can see in the photo. It isn’t cakey or dry. It’s pretty much perfect.

Overall Finish:

As the claims say it does, it dries to a semi-matte finish – great for people with oily skin like me. I still always suggest setting your foundation with a powder to ensure that it lasts throughout the day. Look at that finish though. It’s like a beautiful, radiant but muted glow. It’s not obviously glowing, but a semi-matte finish that’s worth celebrating.

Oil Control and Lasting Power:

Surprisingly, this foundation lasts a really long time as well. I went on a night out with my friends with this foundation and when I came back, after dancing too, it still looks pretty good! The coverage remained intact and it didn’t do badly in the oil control department either. You’ll still have to blot but not excessively.

Verdict:

Love at first sight. For $12.95, it’s a foundation for sure worth looking into. Be prepared to apply with quick hands for a more than rewarding finish. Great for everyday and suitable for oily to combination skin!

What’s the rating?

What’s your favourite product from Australis? Any recommendations?

Hey Everyone,

Every now and then when I visit the drugstore, there will be a shiny new foundation that’s just come out. This one in particular has been on the shelves for a while now but that doesn’t make it not suitable for being relatively new. A foundation that boasts to be the perfect fit for your skin and coming from one of my favourite brands, Maybelline, I just had to get it. In this review, I’ll be talking about the claims of this foundation, the texture, colors, and overall look. It seems that Maybelline also recently changed the name of their colors. I’m usually a nude but I think they changed that color to a ‘nude beige’. I can say now that this foundation isn’t one of my favourites.

Maybeline Claims:

This foundation is supposed to:

Thus, you’re supposed to look at a foundation that gives you natural coverage that is almost translucent and flawless. Sounds pretty good right? Well, let’s see if these claims hold any weight.

Bottle Top Packaging:

The foundation comes in a generic foundation bottle which I don’t like because I’d rather pump the foundation out or squeeze it out from a squeeze tube. Because the foundation is a very liquid like foundation, it exacerbates the problem of pouring just too much on the back of your hand. But, this is really a standard packaging for a foundation so there shouldn’t really be any complaints. ;)

Free Flowin’ Texture:

The texture of this foundation is liquid. Like a liquid. Very dribbly and runny and very much like the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation which I have a review of also on this blog. Despite the runny texture, it still provides medium to basically full coverage and is great with a paddle brush or with your hands. Your hands will provide a more sheer coverage.

Glowy Finish:

After application, there will certainly be a glow which is why this foundation is mainly suggested for people with dry skin. Oily skin users, please beware, because the foundation will look way too glowy for you and you can just imagine how bad it might get later on in the day. For me, I don’t really like this finish, I’d rather much prefer something a little more matte or a subtle glow.

Lasting Power

The foundation’s lasting power is weak. The foundation doesn’t last long and I think mainly it’s a foundation for your skin to breathe so in comparison with other foundations, I found myself blotting throughout the day and it’s something I for sure wouldn’t wear on a night out with the girls.

Overall Review:

When worn, the foundation was fairly comfortable. I didnt notice too much difference in comfort level. It has a glowy finish that I wouldn’t say is totally natural and I wouldn’t probably leave the house not setting my foundation with a powder. I know it wouldn’t stand a chance of staying on for very long at all if I didn’t. I would give this a 2-3/5. I have oily skin though so it may be a totally different story for someone with dry skin. I will not be making a re-purchase. I found this difficult to be comfortable with.

Hey Everyone!

Like a cream blush, liquid concealer has always been one of those products I’d rather only use if I had to. I love cream concealers and balm concealers because I think they are much easier to use, whip on and pop into my makeup travel bag.  However, with a liquid concealer, I have to whip out an extra brush, spread and then dab only to find that it seemingly does not last as long as my other balm or cream concealers. Yet, when the eye-bags hit from a sleepless night or two, there’s not much choice and the liquid concealers seem to work the best for this purpose.

Today, I’ll be giving a review of one of the first concealers I’ve ever used. Popular in Singapore and other Asian countries, ZA is a drugstore makeup brand that is commonly found at Watsons stores. Their ZA Perfection Concealer has won many accolades, been on the shelves for a while and is a liquid concealer for sure worth looking at.

ZA claims that this product will:

1. Rapidly convers discoloration, uneven skintone

2. Controls skintone

Packaging:

The ZA Perfection Concealer comes in a really cute shiny blue squeeze tube. It has a nozzle shaped opening which is convenient because any liquid concealer should be used with the “Less is more” concept. It will not help you if you slather a liquid concealer on and even that small tiny drop is enough for various parts of my face.

Best Tool to Use

The best tool to use doesn’t stand alone – using your fingers and a synthetic concealer brush is your best bet. My favourite liquid concealer brush is the Ecotools concealer brush. It’s ridiculously awesome for liquid concealers as it applies just the right amount as is magic for anyone into also powdered mineral concealers. Your fingers are needed to dab and blend the remaining product so that the blemish is entirely covered.

How To Apply:

To apply this concealer, simply squeeze some of the concealer onto the back of your hand and then using your concealer brush, collect some of the concealer and dab onto the areas where you need the coverage.

Use your finger tips and then dab and blend the concealer until it magically disappears. Dab around the center of the blemish so that you don’t erase the concealer.

Under-Eye Performance

Probably the big deal is if this concealer performs well under the eyes. It performs pretty well and covers well for my under eye circles. Fortunately, I don’t have heavy eye-bags so that means that even a weak performing concealer will do for my under-eyes. To that, take what I’m about to say lightly if you have larger eye-bags that need a more heavy duty concealer. The application of this is similar. Just take the brush and very lightly dab the concealer under the eyes. You don’t want to put too much because the concealer will cake and look very white. Don’t blame the concealer though, just blame  your application technique.

After using your brush, use your fingertips to dab and smoothen out the concealer so that it blends flawlessly.

Overall Concealer Performance

The concealer is alright. Nothing superbly amazing our out of this world. For blemishes, performance is not as strong because the blemish still appears underneath the concealer and more patting and blending and applying is needed until totally covered. For redness, this concealer does very well to hide redness or patches of skin that need color correcting. Underneath the eyes, for small eye-bags, it does the job as well. Overall, blemishes and zits – No ; redness and patches of discolored skin – Yes; Under-eyes  - Yes. Kind of reminds of me of just a full coverage foundation right? :) The concealer blends well but the staying power is average. The concealer lives up to its claims but letting you know that it doesn’t do other basic concealer jobs that well is probably a relevant topic.

Have you tried this concealer?

Hey Everyone!

You can probably tell that I’m on a drugstore liquid foundation rampage. Actually, that rampage has been going on for quite some time now. There’s just something about foundation that makes me happy. I think it does the best job in transforming a face, it instantly takes away scars and redness, making your complexion flawless (well the good ones do at least). That and concealer and blush are probably necessities in ever makeup vanity. Today I’ll be adding into the archives a much loved foundation, the Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse foundation.

Packaging

Smart packaging. There’s no extra cap to drop and lose because the bottle has a twist function that allows for the foundation to be pumped out. I love pump bottles so much better because you can control how much of the foundation you need for the face. About 2-3 pumps is sufficient for mine.

Texture

When I first got my paws on a bottle at Priceline (the Aussie drugstore) and swatched it on my hand, it was pretty much love at first sight. The texture was a dream. On the bottle it says air whipped which already adds to the effect of it being marshmallow soft. It is. It feels a lot like whipped cream and blends evenly and flawlessly. It is a dream texture.

Tools

The best way to use this is to use this foundation is with a paddle brush because that’s the only way I tried using it that didn’t involve a sponge. Sponge + this foundation isn’t a bad match either. Either way, you’ll get a flawless finish.

Coverage

Start bare then using a paddle brush apply the foundation in short dabbing motions. Pictured here is half the face. The coverage is quite good and leaves the face nice and flawless. It takes care of red spots and blemishes but will not take care of large zits. You’ll need a concealer for that but that is expected.

The full face before powder and concealer:

You can see up close that it blends so well that you can’t really tell that I’m wearing foundation even up close. The foundation also leaves a nice glow and covers really well. Pores are still visible but it’s still alright!

Overall, a pretty good foundation.

Maybelline claims that it is - 100% Poreless Skin and provides Air Brushed Perfection which is true in a way. I wouldn’t say 100% poreless skin because you can still see my pores but the texture does help to minimize their appearance. There are a few downsides to this foundation though! It does oxidize throughout the day and the oil control and staying power is below average. Thus, if you have a short function like a party, it would be best to use this but not for a long day of sweating and being outside.

Flawless, but could improve in more ways than one.

Hope you liked this review!

Hey Everyone!

So we all know that Roseanne Tang is sort of on a bb cream craze lately and because of this craze, hopefully we all know what a bb cream is. If you still don’t, it’s a makeup and skincare product in one that doesn’t provide as much coverage as a liquid foundation can, but sure feels a lot lighter making it pretty perfect in the summer heat. Today, I’ll be doing a review on a much talked about bb cream online and offline, the L’egere Multi White BB Cream. I’ve wanted to get my hands on this for a while now and even considered purchasing it online –  but when I flew back home to Singapore, it was on the shelves and soon present in my shopping basket.

What are the claims of the L’egere BB Cream? L’egere says it’s supposed to:

1. Skincare – moisturise, anti-wrinkle, anti-aging repair, and “polish, concealer, isolation, and balances sebum” (?)

2. Minimizes pores, dark circles and other flaws

3. Natural looking makeup

Alright, you know how this show runs, we’ll see if those claims hold up later in this review. It was a bit hard to decipher what the description was saying but I’m sure we’ll pull through.

Texture/Consistency

The L’egere Multi White BB Cream is a very creamy bb cream. When squeezed out of the tube it’s a light cream texture that blends easily into the skin. I can also see sort of water based properties as well which makes it potentially a good skincare product. When the cream is swatched and then blended into the skin, it has a semi – matte apperance and feels moisturising.

Color

I think the most special characteristic of the L’egere Multi White BB Cream is that it comes out of the tube as a dark tan color and for darker skintones, this may be a godsend to you. However, do not be fooled, when blended out, the BB cream turns into a pale color, for NC25 or below. NC30 people like me can wear this, but I’d have to apply a powder that’s my color on top to set it. Thus, this bb cream is not recommended for skintones above an NC30 because it really would not bode well considering the cream does change color when blended out.

After spreading the cream out….

And blending half of it to demonstrate, you can clearly see that the cream does change color and does not match its out of the bottle color.

Application – Let’s see how it looks on the skin!

With all bb creams, I like to pat the bb cream into the skin. As you can see, it gives off a tan orange color when first applied.

However, don’t be fooled, it spreads into a lighter color after. I’m sorry I look particularly yellow, it’s just the lighting and the new cam cam. Sheer coverage, eh?

Quick Tip: To match my skin, I like to apply the bb cream on my neck and decolletage as well if it really doesn’t match.

And there you have it! The BB cream really does have sheer coverage and has a sticky after-feel after I apply the bb cream on.

Overall Review:

Overall, it’s a pretty decent buy. It’s not absolutely spectacular but I like how it gives me a subtle glow when I apply the bb cream. After using it for about a month, I did not see any improved skincare benefits to my skin – no whitening, no pore minimizing, my skin stayed the same with breakouts every now and then but that was probably hormonal more than anything. I don’t think that this bb cream lasts long. I’ve worn it in Singapore and it would wear off very fast. I would also not recommend this for anyone with acne scars that they would like to cover as the coverage is sheer when spread out and will eventually fade come midday. I found it very nice and easy to blend, with a natural finish and glow!
I hoped you liked this review!
What’s your favourite bb cream?

Hey Everyone!

The Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation has always been a product on the shelf that I’ve fo sho been curious about. I’ve wondered whether it had good enough coverage, if it was indeed a matte foundation and silly enough, whether it was slick enough to slide off. Until I bought it. I have to say that the first two mentioned traits are pretty true, but the latter will have to pass. Today, I’ll be doing a review about the much talked about the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation and whether its supposedly tried and tested claims hold true.

What are the product claims?

The Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation is undoubtedly a mousse and comes in pot rather than a bottle. It has a very slick and smooth texture that applying any other cream products on it is rather difficult. It has a true to matte finish with great coverage depending on the tool you use.

Maybelline Claims that the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation has:

1. Perfect Coverage for 100% Velvet Matte Perfection

2. Ideal for Normal to Oily Skin

3. Won’t Clog Pores/Non-Comodogenic

Let’s see if these claims hold at the end of this review!

Applying this Foundation:

This foundation is best applied when the mousse is pressed into the skin. That is the only way it blends with the skin and provides the most coverage. There are three different ways you can apply this foundation and I’ve realised that each method produces a different finish:

1. Hands: 100% Full Coverage. With your fingers, sweep some of the product onto your fingers and smooth and blend onto face.

2. Brush: Medium Coverage. It’s a bit difficult because you can’t press the foundation into the skin as well and you will have flaky bits falling off that isn’t attractive if you have a nice outfit on. It does not provide as much coverage as if you were to use your clean hands.

3. Sponge: Medium to Light Coverage: Out of all three ways to apply this foundation, this brings on the least coverage for a more natural look but you’ll need to pile on more foundation if you were to use a sponge instead of your hands.

You can see the particles which is exactly why it’s best when you use your fingers so you can press those particles into the skin.

Once spreaded evenly, it produces the most flawless finish ever, no joke. A little tip on the color. When you swatch your regular color in Maybelline with this foundation, it will appear lighter than normal. It is safe to say go one shade darker or you can use the same shade. With full coverage foundations, I don’t suggest totally going out and about and being active in it. Use it sparingly for nights out or photoshoots if you really need that full on coverage. You also do not want to go overboard with this, you will look like you are wearing a mask otherwise. Be careful!

After a powder application, it always becomes more flawless.

Pretty good job on the pores as well!

So What do I think?

Excellent. Excellent if you’re into full coverage foundations. If not, you could be going for a less natural look than normal. It’s a very and absolutley matte finish, probably the most matte foundation that I’ve tried. It lasts about 4-5 hours which is the usual rate but will not hold that matte finish throughout the day. You will still need to carry your blotters with you. Saying this, let’s look at the claims once again.

1. Perfect Coverage for 100% Velvet Matte Perfection?

Perfect Coverage only if you apply with your fingers.  For sure a velvet matte finish, even applying my studio finish concealer on top would slide off the stuff, very smooth and silicone feeling.

2. Ideal for Normal to Oily Skin?

Yes. Oily skin and normal skin people can use this but I would not reccomend it for people with dry skin.

3. Won’t Clog Pores/Non-Comodogenic?

I had no breakouts from this product!

Overall, a great product if you’re looking for full coverage and a matte finish but remember to apply this with your fingers!

Have you tried this foundation before and what do you think?

Roseanne

Hey Everyone,

I admit that I’ve been reviewing BB products quite frequently of late but I have to say that they’re really interesting. They are a foundation, a make-up base and a cream that goes on as light as a feather. However, not many people celebrate these often “walk-past, and don’t look back” products. Nor do they know how to apply them. In this review, I’ll be giving my own thoughts after a good trial period of a new baby in the market by Rachel K, the Rachel K Color Control Blemish Balm with a tutorial showing you how to apply bb creams in general.

The Founder and Director of Rachel K is Rachel Kum, Miss Singapore 2009, a stunningly beautiful woman who is very kind, determined and a hardworking entrepreneur who was also featured in Urban Straits Times Power Women. In August 2010, she developed Rachel K, a mineral makeup line thats suitable for all skin types and even highly applauded by Zing, a well-known makeup artist in Hong Kong, with clients such as Zhang Zi Yi and Karen Mok! Her products are selling in Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Germany  in selected outlets. When Rachel herself kindly asked me to do a review of one of her main products, I couldn’t help but say yes!

So, What Does it Do?

Here are the product claims, we’ll see if they live up to expectations later on:

1. Revises dull skin tone and lighter texture gives a smoother, radiant yet non-oily finish

2. Brings out a youthful glow in skin, making it clean, soft and supple

3. Natural mineral ingredients do not damage or irritate skin

Basically, it’s a refined BB cream with not only a lighter texture but also with extra skincare benefits such as White Tea extracts (known for antibacterial, sunblock and cancer-fighting properties), Aloe Leaf Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Lecithin, Hyaluronic acid (for moisturising properties) and Vitamin E and C.

Packaging:

Packaging wise, the product is in a black tube which is suitable for the use of the product. To use the product, only a pea sized amount is actually needed for your whole face, sort of the amount you would use as a primer, and the bottle is perfect for getting that amount out. In no means would you use this product as a regular foundation. Spreading it thick on your skin will not get you anywhere. The packaging is cute –  it somehow reminds me a bit of Majolica Majorca but is definitely unique it it’s own way. A refreshing respite from the usual pink.

The product goes out quite thick and quite light. A bit scary for a yellow-toned person like me, but if applied correctly, this worry is soon forgotten.

Let’s Put this on & How To Apply BB Creams:

Step 1: I know this is weird but my friend from Hong Kong watched me apply previous bb creams and nearly brought the house down. What you actually do with bb creams is you apply a very light layer, and treat it not like makeup, but as a skincare product. This way, your first step should be to squeeze just a little bit on the back of your hand and dot the product all over your face, lightly and well quite randomly. Have fun looking like a polka-dot fabric!

Step 2: Quickly and gently pat the product into your skin. It’s a little like stippling your foundation with a stippling brush but you’re using your fingers this time. Pat with three fingers at a time just to quicken the process. WIth the Rachel K BB Cream, I really like how matte feeling the BB cream is after I’ve patted everything in. It feels super smooth and light, as if I’m not wearing anything at all. However, the color tone, as most BB creams do, makes me a tad bit heartbroken.

Step 3:
Like all foundations or makeup bases, if you have blemishes, then you would apply a concealer and a powder overtop. For concealer I’m using the MAC Studio Finish Concealer and for powder, I’ve opted to use the Rachel K Mineral Color Control BB Press Powder. I have to say this is an amazing powder with great coverage and a really nice smooth finish!

If you’d like more coverage, you can use the sponge provided and pat gently the powder onto the skin. If not, you can roll like I do and use a fluffy powder brush. Yes, I’m testing out Sigma brushes too. It’s quite flawless, but my pores do need a tad bit of help.

This is another product I’ve been using daily. It’s the lip plumpers from Rachel K too. They’re super smooth and buttery when applied. I have to say though that you can feel them on the lips and they do get a tad tacky after a few hours. It’s normal for a lipgloss though. The best thing I like about it is the color in Suggestive. It’s such a beautiful bold pink/red that looks super pretty.

And you are finished! Don’t apply this like a tinted moisturiser or a foundation. It’ll make you look cakey! So did this product live up to it’s name? We’ll have to see.

Does This BB Cream Live Up to it’s Name?

1. Revises Dull SkinTone and lighter texture gives a smoother, radiant yet non-oily finish?

Yes, it definitely helped with red spots and I have to say I did look more “radiant’ after I applied the BB Cream. One of the things I love about this product is that it doesn’t look oily and greasy at all after application like other BB creams I have tried. It really dries to a matte, almost powder finish like you see in the photos and is awesome for oily/combo skin people like me. When you pat the BB cream onto the skin, it really blends away as if it was never there. Just the coverage remains. Excellent!

2. Brings out a Youthful Glow in Skin, making it clean, soft and supple

Yep! Definitely soft and supple. It’s really like my skin just more flawless and radiant. The main thing I love about it is that I’m getting the same coverage as a mineral foundation but I’m really putting a lot less on. I’m getting pretty much the same finish as you see in the photos but I’ve only applied like a two pea sizes of product onto my face. It’s smooth, not oily at all, and is such a wonderful product to use during the day.

3. Natural Mineral Ingredients do not damage or irritate skin

I haven’t had any breakouts but I have seen my skin glow a little more, no joke after using this daily! It might just be me but I wake up and my skin looks better. I don’t know how to describe it. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m putting “less” on in and in this case, less is really more.

Long-Lasting?

The real test though is if this BB Cream lasts! After six hours, here are the results. There is for sure some fading of the product and I’ve definitely oiled up but I reckon I oil up tons more after six hours with other products. It’s not great, but not bad. Plus, it didn’t say it was long-wearing but I have to say it’s pretty good for a BB cream to look like this after six hours.

How it can improve:

I have to say that I really like this product. It’s refreshing to like something a lot after reviewing so much stuff! The downside is the color. I’m sure Rachel K is already working on this but the color is way too pink based and light for the everyday girl. We need new shades! The press powders are also suitable only for NC30 and below. Other than that, I wouldn’t mind a little more coverage for a BB cream for the nighttime! Fix the colors, but keep the rest. I reckon something on the packaging should say how to use this bb cream to the best of its potential like the tutorial above as well! I can imagine people just smearing it on their faces wondering what to do next!

And there we have it! A great BB cream finally but it just needs to work on the colors! This product is currently sold at Watsons Stores in Singapore!

Love,

Roseanne

Hey Everyone,

I remember saying to myself not too long ago that I believed drugstore foundations weren’t as good as high end foundations. But, before you bring out the pitchforks and torches, this is probably one of the first drugstore foundations that marked my turning point into a new drugstore loving era. This is the Maybelline Superstay 24HR Foundation and if I were to sum it up in three words, it’s flawless, it covers, and it’s comfortable. There’s a reason why this is the second bottle that I’ve purchased.

The story to this foundation was a little funny. One of my best friends, Danielle, is one of those ladies who loves being tan. Even if I beg her to take the lighter foundation because I know it’s her color, she always insists that she’s the darker shade. It was one of those “I Told You So” moments and after quite a while bantering back and forth, I bought it from her. She’s quite a good saleswoman and she wanted to make up for lost profit. I’m not afraid to say that I am in love with this foundation and perhaps Danielle should buy the wrong color more often. I will make small comparisons with the Revlon ColorStayFoundation, because that’s my other favourite drugstore foundation.

So, What does this Foundation Do?

Maybelline says this is supposed to:

  • Stays comfortable and looks naturally flawless all day
  • Micro-Flex formula provides 24-hour wear and no transfer
  • Withstands heat, sweat and humidity
  • Oil-free, dermatologist-tested, fragrance-free
  • Suitable for all skin types

The Key Characteristic though here is the Micro-Flex Formula. Maybelline boasts that this stuff moves with your skin and won’t cake and flake up like some foundations do. It’s long lasting in that way and controls most oilies. We’ll see if these characteristics hold up later in this review.

But first, let’s take a closer look at the packaging:

Reminiscent of the Revlon Colorstay, the bottle has no pump. A standard foundation bottle design. Nothing special, nothing out of the ordinary.

I have to say I absolutely love the consistency of this foundation. Unlike some foundations that are either too runny or too think like the Rimmel Stay Matte foundation, this consistency allows for a flawless blend onto the skin. It also allows for enough coverage to cover up redness and small flaws. If I were to compare it to the Revlon ColorStay Foundation, it is tons more comfortable than it’s much more heavy counterpart.

How do you put this baby on?

You can either spread this on with your clean fingers or use a synthetic paddle brush in short strokes onto the face. However, I still suggest smoothing the foundation with clean fingers after you have applied it with the brush. The coverage is amazing. It basically offers about the same coverage as the Revlon Colorstay Foundation but with probably half the weight.

It looks a bit unfinished until you really blend the product out. This product also tends to oxidize a bit so if it appears to be a little light when you first apply it, it should be alright in about 1-2 hours when the foundation is totally set.

I wouldn’t suggest you really wearing the foundation out without powder and concealer overtop. The flawless finish can only be achieved this way. Without powder and concealer, it has a bit of a funny, painted glow that I wouldn’t suggest walking around with.

That’s much better. I used the MAC Studio Finish Concealer and the MAC MSF Natural to finish up the job here.

Of course no makeup routine is finished without your other necessary counterparts. You can see that putting the other elements of your makeup on really changes the look of the face and even the payoff of your foundation. I never really recommend wearing a foundation plain, without the other parts of your face enhanced because it looks too artificial. I know that sounds contradictory, but when everything is pieced together, it just looks more like a finished masterpiece.

Overall Review:

I absolutely love it. I like the ample coverage it gives me and I like that it is comfortable for me to wear during the day. It’s light, flawless and affordable. I love how it’s easy to blend and such a no-brainer foundation. But, what’s a review if we don’t observe the claims:

So, does this foundation…

  • Stays comfortable and looks naturally flawless all day?

Yes. It does look “naturally flawless” and it is comfortable. The consistency is pleasantly not too heavy

  • Micro-Flex formula provides 24-hour wear and no transfer?

I wouldn’t necessarily say that it lasts for as long as it says it does because my foundation does come off after about 9 or so hours. Not 24 HR. But C’mon can any foundation actually withstand 24HRs? Didn’t think so. I reckon the Revlon Colorstay has more of a lasting finish than the Maybelline SuperStay. The Maybelline SuperStay is just tons more comfortable to wear.

  • Withstands heat, sweat and humidity?

I still oil up but it does stay even when I’m out for long periods of time and doesn’t look gross at the end of a long day. In terms of oil control, it does a mediocre job. I still have to blot throughout the day.

  • Oil-free, dermatologist-tested, fragrance-free?

No fragrance, and the other two I can’t really know unless I fly to the Maybelline laboratories and shadow the scientists there.

  • Suitable for all skin types? Now this is weird but I find that my skin actually improves when I use this foundation. I don’t know why but it really does and I’m thankful for that since I’m quite senstive to some liquid foundations. That old wives tale that more affordable makeup can break you out isn’t true.

Overall, this foundation is better than most foundations I’ve tried and is slightly even similar to the MUFE HD Foundation. The HD Foundation is a little more runnier and lighter but the coverage is about the same. Don’t even talk about the Bobbi Brown Foundation, that was such a dissapointment. I am very pleased with this product and it presently remains my default liquid foundaiton.

I hope you like this post!

What is your favourite drugstore foundation?

Love, Roseanne

Hey Everyone!

Along with your foundation, concealer is probably the next best thing to covering up flaws. Actually, it is THE thing. It’s like tangible photoshop and with a simple pat of your fingertips, a much aggravated blemish can seemingly dissapear. As my guy friend put it, “it’s like magic!”. Correct. It’s simply the key to looking flawless. It’s the “lie” behind make-up but nonetheless a necessary life-saver.

So, this is a review of the MAC Studio Finish concealer. This concealer is no doubt my all time favourite, my holy grail, and the magic behind my seemingly flawless complexion (that really isn’t). Trust me, I really wanted to zoom up on my zits and acne scars just to show you how bad they were and display it in all its glory, but I couldn’t let myself subject you to that much horror so I decided to give that opportunity a miss. It’s quite unecessary but I have shown you the after picture and hopefully you’ll take my word for it that it really is unedited.

Packaging:

Probably one of the reasons why I love this concealer is how small and handy the packaging is. It comes in a circular case that’s probably identical to the MAC eyeshadow cases and you just click and flick it open to reveal the product. It’s small enough to fit in any makeup pouch or even pocket. The only gripe I would say is that it’s a rather deep well after you get into really using the product, your nails might dig into it a little, making it a bit unsanitary. With this sort of size and portability, it’s a gripe that can pass.

I really did tell you that it was small! I happen to have unaturally small hands as well.

How to apply:

I would say hands down the best way to apply this product is with your fingertips. Because of the consistency, being a cream and balm based product, it tends to stiffen up when it’s cold and warm up too much when it’s too hot. I would know since I’m in Melbourne and it gets freezing and then when I’m in Singapore, the product changes into a whole nother consistency. This is probably the reason why people say that this concealer cakes up throughout the day or doesn’t blend well – I’m guessing that they’re coming from a colder country – because the balm is quite unblendable when it’s cold out.

Best way to avoid this? Skip the brushes (or if you are a clean freak (no offense) then you can use a small synthetic bristled brush – suggesting EcoTools for that – they make great ones). And use your fingertips. Your fingertips will be able to warm the product up before application and then you would simply pat lightly onto the places where you need to cover and slowly blend the edges away so it is no longer visible. If you’re in a rush, small strokes with your fingertips also do the trick.

Let’s do a product test shall we?

As stated earlier, the reason why I’ve used the back of my hand is because I really don’t feel like showcasing to you my zits and blemishes. I can tell you right now that I don’t have perfect skin but I don’t feel obligated to show you every acne scar and blemish that I have so I won’t. I’m sure you’d be thanking me for this anyway.

Step 1: Start with a bare canvas. Alright I know there’s nothing much to hide here, but I’m going to try to hide that mole dot thing in the middle. Yeah, that one.

Step 2: Use your fingertips and acquire the product and pat it on the area you want to cover. This keeps the coverage and doesn’t spread it out but prevents it from looking overly cakey as well.

Step 3: Blend the edges and ta-da! Bye bye mole, spot thingamabob!

Overall Product Review:

It works, and it works well. It lasts throughout the day and it covers really well. It’s not too expensive, in the thirties and one lasts you about a year or so this concealer is my favourite. I love it because I can bring it whereever I go in case something happens and it somehow fades away. I like how blendable it is and easy to apply with my fingertips in the morning because a brush isn’t necessary. Most of all, the coverage is great. Pat-pat and the magic makes your blemish seemingly dissapear.

But, there are cons to this product. The packaging is a little unhygenic as you use your fingers and make a small well into the product. It’s like a lip balm pot really. It gets messy after a while and it for sure gets messy when the weather gets hot. It also tends to appear when you’re sweating so it’s not flawless when you’re excercising. The color combinations that MAC provides aren’t exactly suitable for all skintones. This concealer appears too yellow at times on me.

The most essential thing to keep to what I’ve said is that you’ve set this concealer with a powder – like you always should after your foundation and concealer. The staying power amps up double fold this way and you keep the concealer from running as well.

For your entertainment, this is me with a very light mineral makeup on with the studio finish concealer. Not edited, trust me, and without the powder. Pretty good right?

Beauty Tip: If you have a big zit or blemish and you’ve just put concealer on it and find that whenever you dust the powder ontop, it removes a bit of the concealer – use a skunk or stippling brush like the MAC 187 to stipple lightly the power to set the concealer that way. It’s a much lighter sort of application that can’t ruin the masterpiece of concealing that you’ve just created. One of my favourite techniques actually.

It’s always important to set so I’ve used the Mineralized Skinfinish Natural to set the concealer with a MAC 134 or a big powder brush.

Is it for the Under-eye Dark Circles?

I don’t recommend this for undereye circles. You need something a lot lighter in texture and weight for that particular purpose – something like the YSL Touche Eclat does very well. This concealer would be too heavy for the undereye circles.

I hope you liked this review! I love this concealer for it’s ease of application and coverage despite it’s cons.

What do you think?

Hey Everyone!

Wow, your discussion yesterday was amazing. I really appreciated your thoughts about the issue!

Today I’ll be doing a review of the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation. Bobbi Brown foundations are supposed to be gold so let’s see how this one holds up!

The foundation comes in a pump bottle which is convenient and doesn’t waste too much excess product. The product itself is surprisingly watery and thin, not like most foundations I’ve tried. At first pump, it seems like it wouldn’t provide any coverage, thinner than a tinted moisturiser but you’ll be surprised! The best way to use this would probably be a paddle brush if you need the coverage, if not a good clean stippling brush does a good job in blending everything together because it’s such a thin consistency.

The coverage is pretty good. Despite it’s watery makeup, it does a great job covering everything – for sure a medium to high coverage foundation which is cool because you get the feeling that you aren’t wearing much for cool coverage.

This is the foundation without a powder on it. It’s for sure not a matte foundation so be careful if you know you’re going to be particularly oily that day. It looks like skin in some parts but where there are the usual imperfections, it cakes up a bit as you can see. Not great for acne prone skin.

But, set with a powder, it looks pretty flawless. But even then, it’s not that flawless.

Honestly, this isn’t one of my favourite foundations. It doesn’t last as long as I’d like and it oils up too fast and not in the most graceful manner. However, the ‘technology’ involved in making such a blend-able foundation go on with such coverage should be applauded so I clap, but I don’t clap for long when it starts to fade off. At 75 AUD, it was really quite expensive and it’s not something I would repurchase again.

Have you tried this and what do you think of it? Leave your comments in the comment section above!

Hey Everyone,

More exciting news first! I’m going to Sydney tomorrow for IMATS on Saturday after a talk with Dad. Super duper excited. Tickets are booked, and the theme this time is Alice in Wonderland, of course one of my favourite tales. Super duper excited. Breathe Roseanne. And look, I’m blogging. Finally, those 2 weeks of hell are over and now i’m able to prance around for at least a few days before I start burry-ing my head in books again.

So here’s a foundation review for you. I’ve decided I’m going to write less, and picture more. So, picture this. A foundation that makes you absolutely flawless and in my opinion blends pretty well and is probably one of the best oil controlling foundations out there. No, it’s not over sixty dollars fortunately, it’s the Revlon ColorStay Foundation.

So, I’ve heard a lot about this baby and lots of it is negative feedback. I get things like it smells bad but honestly I only noticed the smell until a few of you told me and it smells sort of like paint. Like artsy paint which really doesn’t bother me. The only reason why I would think people would dislike this product is that they aren’t used to the coverage.

Yes, yes..it really is all of the above but boy does it cover! And it covers so well that sometimes I’m scared to use it because it might have this magical chemical in it that’s actually bad for me. I don’t know if it does but it covers too well. And it controls oil too well. Just too well, I can’t really believe it sometimes. But, believe it because it’s photo time!

It’s a screw top cover which isn’t convenient. I’d rather much prefer a pump but it’s okay, it’s not like I’m wearing the pump on my face I reckon.

The consistency is slightly thicker but one of the best ones I’ve had. I don’t like a foundation that’s too runny, I don’t trust that it will give me the coverage I need.

And yea, I do need coverage but my skin has been healing up pretty well and this stuff does’t break me out!

It’s foundation time! One of my favourite times of the day!

As you can see, super high coverage. Don’t worry, it might look a little white at the beginning but it does oxidize. Negative feedback spotlight – sometimes ppl say it turns orange but it doesn’t on me. Maybe I got some really good batch or something.

Yea, flawless much?

Even my new Canon S95 can’t pick up the cakiness.

And I’m done, pretty photo worthy stuff!

It’s quite pricy in Australia, being a little less than $40 but if you are looking for high coverage and oil control, this makes a pretty good bet. Make sure you’re used to it or your first application will be quite a shock.

To all going to IMATS on Saturday, see you there!

xx Roseanne

I still spy a little white overcast, but without the flash it totally matches my skin. It probably is my horrible camera though (thanks for the heads up Sarah love!) Flawless though :)

xx Roseanne

Hey Everyone,

*This is a sponsored review, I did not purchase this product, Elizabeth Arden was kind enough to give this to me to review. So I know this is pretty much overdue compared to my video launch already, but here it is in blog form for all of you who are too lazy to hear me rant. so here we go:

Powder foundation to me was always hidden back in the recesses of my makeup never try list because I always thought that it could never ever achieve the same effects and coverage as a liquid. Looking natural versus Barbie was never a hesitating choice, I wanted to look like barbie minus the blonde hair and never walk out with a single blemish on my face. I was happy with liquid until as always my onsugar newspaper had a little article by the lovely Sarah Chaudry and Diana Salleh about how much they loved this stuff and since EA was kind enough to sponsor me, I was totally eager to give this one a homerun try. And, I am glad I did.

You’d probably like to know a little more about what is inside this baby though before applying it to your face. I received the foundation compact, big application brush and mini on the go kabuki.

So what’s in the foundation?

Lots of good stuff and debatable bad stuff. Good stuff? It’s of course made apparently of the purest minerals and is rich in: (thanks to the Mineral Makeup Blog: http://www.themineralmakeup.com/mineral-makeup-review-elizabeth-arden-pure-finish-mineral-powder-foundation-spf-20/02/09/2009/)

- Sea Water Minerals which are rich in calcium and magnesium that support the skin’s system

- Mica & Sliica - blur those imperfections baybay! Soft – focus effect for the win!

- Vitamins A,C,E - any vitamin is good right?

Aloe makes it soothing and Magnesium Myristate makes it have a soft. feathery texture.

Ingredients List:

mica, dimethicone, nylon-12, zinc stearate, silica methicone, squalene, magnesium mystirate, sea saltmaris sal/sel marin, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, silk powde/serica poudre de soie, ascorbyl palminatet, retinyl palmitate, tocopherol, glycine soja ( soybean) oil, alumina, oryza sativa ( rice ) starch , butylparaben, methylparaben, propylparaben, sodium dehydroacetate ( may contain bismuth oxychloridem, carmine, iron oxides, titanium dioxide )

And the sketchy? Because it is SPF 20 PA+++, the foundation also includes titanium dioxide which some people are allergic or sensitive too. If you can’t put more than a sunscreen of spf 15 on your face, I suggest that you don’t apply this on it unless you would like to grow a national mountain. I have one right now, I call it a unicorn because it makes me look like a unicorn but sometimes it makes me look like a narwhale. If you don’t know what narwhales look like:

These are my least favourite zits. haha MOVING ON. ok. If you also don’t want another national mountain, do beware that this mineral makeup also contains traces of bismuth oxychloride, a preservative (i know this thanks to my PlusOne Asia job when I had to input all those chemicals to the government, I guess its useful now) so if you are allergic to Bare Minerals or Bare Esscentuals, most likely you’ll be sowing seeds to create new zits. Dimethicone may be a bummer to some folks allergic to primers, because its basically the main ingredient to create a silky smooth and flawless face and of course the parabens make it not 100% natural.

Nice packaging, much?

Forget the puffs of wastage when you open the jar (one of the reasons why I quit everyday minerals) or scatters of powder on your outfit, the Elizabeth Arden has ingenious packaging and what loose powder folks should have thought of a lot earlier. Grind them folks, you’ll get a customised amount of foundation without the mess. Love it. However, it’s not the first. Smashbox Halo Powder has the same exact concept, but props to EA for the implementation.

How are the brushes?

As expected. Synthetic brushes are supposed to be soft and I’m not going to be like “OMG OMG OMG, THESE BRUSHES ARE SO SOFT” x 1000 because making real hair brushes soft should be more award worthy. They’re soft just like Everyday Minerals and just like Ecotools if you’ve tried them out and nothing too special. I like how the big one is angled and large making application easier :)

So what did you really think about it?

I have to be honest. The first few tries of this powder were horrible, the coverage was sheer and no way was I walking out with a face that I felt was barely covered when I could have easily slapped on my MUFE. But, then I realised that I wasn’t being fair. I still concealed with my studio finish and applied my MAC MSF natural over my MUFE foundation so I had to compare apples with apples so I did the same and the difference was dramatic. I have to say that I did of course apply more concealer than average but after everything I still ended up with the same flawless finish plus a more natural appearance without the slight thickness of the liquid. I loved the ending! Plus, it stays on for ages even when I worked out at the gym! All in all, I think the foundation is a great makeup base for your concealer powder overtop but nothing I would wear without the additional effort. The coverage is too sheer in my opinion to cover my many blemishes but would be an wonderful addition to a person with good skin or a person willing to add more concealer. I have honestly cast aside my liquid and have been using this ever since and still currently use this everyday. Its a flawless natural finish that I love, easier to apply without the liquid mess and quicker as well. The concealing just takes longer.

I give it: 4/5 :) Good job, EA, I honestly might even re-purchase it :)

Where to get it & Price?

In Singapore, you can get this at any Sephora Singapore store (the one in ION specifically) for $58 and the brush is sold seperately. You can also get it at any EA counter like takashimaya etc. In Australia, you can get your hands on this in Myer or David Jones Elizabeth Arden counters :)

Hope this was useful!

Love,

Roseanne

Hi. Roseanne is in love.

We all know what it is and where it came from and its achievements that have piled up from a number of youtube gurus and the make-up obsessed are numerous but is the MUFE HD Foundation & Powder really worth it? Well, lets digest how awesome this foundation is… slowly..

HD Foundation – So what’s the lowdown?

The Make Up Forever Foundation is a foundation that conceals, keeps your face fresher for longer, doesn’t cake, while emanating an aura of flawlessness. It even won Allure 2008 Editor’s Choice and is best known for diffusing fine lines while keeping it oil-free. But how does it do it? Simply put: Mica & Silica. The Make Up Forever HD foundation kicks everyone else’s buttocks because it has Cyracide Mica (otherwise known as light diffusing particles) and although it sounds dangerous, its the key to creating a soft focus effect, blurring blemishes and sweeping pores under the bed. However, I think its the silica thats the star of the show. If you have acne prone skin, don’t worry because there are three different kinds of silicone in this foundation that have a molecular structure that is too large to absorb into the skin sort of like: you = particle and you know those skinny jeans you bought a few years ago – yea thats the pore.

What Do I think?

Brilliant. Absolutely Brilliant. First off – Love the coverage and I need mega coverage at this age so I appreciate MUFE for even being able to double up as a liquid concealer- but don’t get me wrong – lots of coverage doesn’t mean not natural. The first day I wore this, my parents were like:

Mom: “thats good, you’re not wearing much make-up today” (rather in hokkien: “na aniee quan ka ho!”)

Dad: “your skin looks a lot better”

Me: ” No Mummy, Daddy, I’m wearing exactly the same amount of make-up!”

Mom&Dad: “take it off!”

Hahah..my parents don’t like me wearing make-up but anyway, the MUFE foundation comes with a pump so its easy to control how much you want to apply that day:

See, you can put people in disbelief with this stuff because it looks just like skin while giving you coverage that you’ve always wanted. Application is also a breeze and i use my MAC 187 and it blends flawlessly but I haven’t tried any other ways to apply it and I don’t like applying my foundation with my fingers. My pores are gone and the variety of shades available are also really decent – I was able to find my shade in a jiffy. The texture of this foundation is also perfect, just the right consistency:

I can’t say enough how much I love this! It’s my holy grail and I’ve finally ended my long search for my perfect foundation. So give it a try if you’re still on your search and maybe it’ll work out for you :) I don’t really have any negative things to say about this which is actually really bad since I look biased – but it lasts for ages (9 am – 10 pm) and..I love it :D My take is of course, you probably guessed it: 5/5!

What about the MUFE HD Powder?

Lovely powder but hate the packaging. I started to dislike loose powders after I spilt everyday minerals all over my outfit once and this brings back nightmares, I swear I’m losing product everytime I open this. It was either this or the MAC MSF Natural (re-purchase) and I decided to take this one since it would be nice if someone did a review of it and I really like it because it makes you absolutely flawless. It’s my last step of my make-up application to set everything and it does a nice job but its just so much hassle with white powder floating every where. I pray I don’t sneeze. Another gripe is no coverage and its supposed to be like that and it eventually made me crawl back to the MAC store for my MSF Natural again. But its supposed to make you flawless, and it really does. Absolutely beautiful. My take on the product: 4/5.

and there you have it. It’s absolutely worth the money, go out and give it a try!
