Hey Everyone!

renee's blend

Meet Renee, a great friend and a crazy successful beauty blogger – the woman behind beautyfool.com. I first met her over a dinner at Cedele which happened to be both a favourite at that time and it’s been more than a year! It’s so cool to see that we’ve both grown to where we are now – from getting into newspapers, magazines, and working with companies. This journey has been crazy fun and it’s great to have someone there to talk to who understands what it’s like! Now, Renee has her very own bodycare brand and it’s Singapore’s First Beauty Blogger & Brand Collaboration. I think this is amazing and I’m super proud of her. She even flew all the way to Thailand to create these products with Lemongrass House! For all of those who don’t know, Lemongrass House is known for its eco-friendly products using the power of natural ingredients and essential oils.

Renee’s Blend is a mix of pure essential oils including Siam Magnolia, chocolate, vanilla, pink grapefruit, papaya and coconut. The result is a smell that smells really clean and fresh with subtle notes of warm musk, papaya and coconut. It is definitely spray all over your room worthy! Siam Magnolia especially is known for being able to promote tranquility, spiritual reflection and help you focus. Not only does it smell great, it can also be somewhat mentally beneficial!

blend

But let’s get started. I have here three products from Renee’s Blend – the Shower Gel, Salt Body Glow Scrub and the Room & Pillow Spray. I just sprayed my room with the stuff and it is amazing. The shower gel is infused with the lovely scent and is a vegetable based deep cleansing shower gel that is made with fresh plant infusions of cucumber and aloe vera, pure essential oils and moisture rich glycerin! My skin smells uber smooth with this in the shower and the smell is great. I love how the scent stays on you unlike other shower gels.

showergel

But before that, when I’m feeling extra luxurious or just need a good scrubbin’ – I like to use the Salt Body Glow. I absolutely love this product! It’s a great salt scrub that doesn’t make you feel greasy but provides just enough moisture. It is made from sea salts from the Andaman Sea, Jojoba, Aloe Vera and Renee’s Blend and gently exfoliates and revitalises.

bodyglow

As you can see, the scrub is not too course or too fine and is perfect for sloughing off dead skin cells and makes your skin uber soft.

scrub

Last but not least is a best seller, the Renee’s Blend Aromatic Room & Pillow Spray! It’s a natural botanic mist of just the scent of Renee’s Blend wafting through the air. I mean what could be better. I love Room Sprays, keeping your house smelling extra nice is  a must, especially if your room is like your home office like mine! I spray it in my closet too so my clothes smell extra fresh.

roomspray

Overall, I am really proud of you Renee! This is amazing and the products are amazing too. All of this is limited edition everyone so the last day to get your fill of Renee’s blend is the second week of April! You can get Renee’s Blend at any Lemongrass House shop including 112 Katong (#03-20), Liang Court (B1 – 26) or Raffles Place (03 – 07A)! I highly recommend the Salt Body Glow!

Hey Everyone,

sdfsdf

I know it doesn’t look like it but I’ve actually been battling acne for a long time. My skin has attitude and breaks out in different periods of time for what seems like no absolute reason. It can have periods of peace and then have periods of war and you can see the war coming with small tiny bumps spread across my face. Thankfully, it has prepared me for battle so here I am sharing some tips to help keep your skin clearer including what works for me and what doesn’t.

1. Spot Treatment – Proactiv Repairing Lotion

My all time favourite acne treatment that doesn’t leave me scars is the Proactiv Repairing Lotion. It works because it contains benzoyl peroxide that eliminates the bacteria on your skin that causes acne. I used the Proactiv range before and just like any skincare range, it works for a while and then doesn’t.  However, I’ve stuck to the repairing lotion for a long time and its the one thing that has helped clear acne without leaving scars, smaller overnight and even stops growing acne from coming out. What a miracle worker. I’m probably on my 4th bottle.

2. The Cleanse Twice Rule & Remove Makeup Properly!

Guess what, many of us don’t remove our make-up properly! It’s sad but true and it was true for me. I thought cleansing my skin with a cleanser looked like it removed all my makeup but it actually isn’t sufficient. Take everything off and make sure its off. I use Bioderma, my all time favourite sensitive skin makeup remover with a non oily forumla. It removes all traces of make-up and has helped my skin improve because I use it with a cotton pad until I see no more traces of make-up. Then, I start off with cleanse number 1 which is Cetaphil because it has a gentle, non-soap formula. I then take my bath and when I’m about to sleep, I cleanse again with my “treatment” cleanser – whether it be brightening, whitening or whatever. That way I cleanse fully. It really helps to make your skin a whole ton better.

3.  Finding a Skincare Routine that works for you

A lot of the brands out there claim that you NEED a serum, need a toner, need this and that in your skincare routine. Most of the time, some of the products aren’t suitable for your skin and it’s just a marketing gimmic. You seriously need to find a skincare routine that works for you. That means if you have to skip toner because it breaks you out, just skip it. If you think you shouldn’t use all the products from a brand range, and mix it up a bit, do it! Find the routine that works for you and it will be the best for you. To clear off my whole load of acne I had across my cheeks, I basically fired it all with the Proactiv Reparing lotion, like loads of it. Of course that’s not recommended by anyones dermatologist but even though it was red and irritated  it eliminated my acne in about 2 weeks. Record breaking time.

4. You’re a Work in Progress

Treating acne requires a patient soul. Acne never goes down in a day or two days even. Treat it everyday and be careful with it and it will go down. Sometimes it can be due to your hormones and your diet as well. So eat more vegetables and drink more water to help with that. Hormones – can’t do much I guess. Be patient!

5. Exfoliation & Going Oil-Free

Within your skincare routine, you can help with the process as well like exfoliating less. This really aggravates the acne. You should go oil free with all your products as well and when treating your acne, reduce moisturiser to specific times. When applying your acne medication, do not apply it over your moisturizer. Think about it, you’re trying to dry out the pimple with your medication and then you’re trying to hydrate it at the same time. Don’t confuse it. Apply moisturizer around the zits if you need to or after your medication session is over. If you have “treatment” and “moisturiser/repair” sessions like wake up 9am to 11 am treat acne, 2 pm to 3pm moisturise because that way they don’t mix.

Please also remember to clean your mouth after you eat!

Here are my all time favourite acne skincare products that work:
- Proactiv Repairing Lotion (Can be found at Watsons)
- Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
- Cellilux Glacial Clay mask
- Bioderma for Sensitive Skin (can be found at http://elizabeauty.com/get-your-very-own-bioderma for cheaper)

Hey Everyone!

immortelle

I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on my skin lately (thank you) and I’ve pretty much fallen in love with the L’Occitane Immortelle range. It has really added a beautiful glow to my complexion so I thought it was only necessary to share it with you all.

The idea behind Immortelle is it’s special main ingredient – a flower from Corsica, France named Immortelle. Even when the flower dies, it still remains as vivid as when it was alive. Over ten years ago, L’Occitane revealed and patented the anti-ageing, microcirculation, collagen production and protection against free radical powers of this flower and it has been praised by women ever since. Story over, I think it is absolutely amazing still that it looks alive (but is actually pretty much gone). Makes for nice interior decoration too. The other main ingredient is Bellis Perennis which limits, reduces and inhibits melanin synthesis (pigmentation).

sdfsdf

Let’s get started and walk you through what I do every morning and night. I first start off with a cleanser, the L’Occitane Brightening Foaming Cleanser. This baby is newly added to the Immortelle range and aims to be a soap free cleanser (amazing) that takes care of the skin without drying it out. It also is able to remove impurities and make-up and reveal for a clear complexion.

f1

The cleanser actually is very fluid when it comes out of the tube. Lets say it “flows” out of the tube so be careful. Other than that, when it touches water, it transforms into the most luxurious foam in the whole wide world. It’s soft, creamy, rich and perfect. On the skin, it lathers well and the smell is amazing. Smells floral and fresh and sort of feels therapeutic. After the rinse, the skin feels incredibly soft and clean.

cleanser

Next up is the L’Occitane Immortelle Brightening Mist. This is your toner and is an alcohol – free mist that refreshes, softens and brightens the complexion. It can also be used to set your make-up with a quick spray over.

mist

I seriously think all toners should be in a little spray bottle. Spritzing this stuff is really fun and I find it makes a good pick me up during the day. I usually pat with a tissue dry and it feels really refreshing although the scent is a little stronger than the cleanser. Other than that, it’s great.

mismist

The L’Occitane Brightening Essence is the serum of the range. It is concentrated with the two ingredients of Immortelle and Bellis Perennis so that pigmentation can’t stand a chance. It is also an instant smoother and brightener. The serum isn’t overly sticky or heavy and blends into the skin well making it great for both day and night.

be

As with most serums, you have to squeeze it into a glass eyedropper which comes with the cap. The texture is a sort of syrup but it feels quite water based on the skin. I couldn’t disagree that it automatically makes me look brighter and smoother. Don’t you agree?

serum

Probably my most loved product is the L’Occitane Brightening Moisture Cream. It is a gel-cream texture that not only hydrates the skin but also aims to correct wrinkles, even out the skin tone and brighten the complexion.

moisture cream

I love the texture of this moisture cream. If you are on the hunt for a new moisturiser, look no further. The moisturiser really soothes and calms the skin when you apply it and pores actually disappear This makes it a great moisturiser to apply make-up on top of as it kind of acts as a primer almost. Yet, not only is it great for the day, it’s fine for night as well.

moisture

So there you have it. An update on my skincare. No, that’s not oil, it’s a natural shine baby!

Hey Everyone!

Finally, it is time to review my Cetaphil buddies! I’ve used them both to the last drop so I thought I would do a review of both the much talked about Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and the UVA/UVB Defense Sunscreen.

1. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Unlike most cleansers on the market, Cetaphil is a much trusted global brand that is both fragrance and soap free making them awesome for people with sensitive skin. Because it’s approved dermatologists, it’s helped many people, even my friends with acne and my relatives with a few skin conditions.

Let’s first start with the famous Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. This cleanser claims to be fantastic for senstive skin, is recommended by dermatologists, softens while cleanses and is able to even remove light make-up. It also won’t clog pores, is pH balanced (did you know there’s a optimum pH for great skin?) and is also fragrance free.

When you pour out the Cetaphil cleanser onto your palm, the first thing you’ll notice is the texture of the liquid. It’s probably unlike anything you’ve tried before because it’s just like a liquid silk gel. It’s also a bit cloudy and milky and when applied on your skin, leaves a smooth trail that you can easily rinse off with water. It’s an interesting texture at best. However, it’s not thick or creamy either. Simply pour it out into your palm and apply on your face in circular motions just like any cleanser. A cool thing to note is that you don’t have to use water with Cetaphil. You can either apply it and wipe with a cloth or you can rinse with water. It’s your pick. On skin, it looks clear.

Then rinse! I know the first time I tried Cetaphil, I didn’t know whether it would work for me because of the texture and I’m used to buffing my skin with exfoliators. You know that “I gotta scrub to feel clean” feeling? Surprisingly though, after the rinse despite the texture, it feels really clean and my safe feels super soft. Therefore, cleanses as it softens? Check.

Overall, the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser for sure get’s my approval. I really noticed in terms of a more long term basis that my skin really cleared up and became less irritated and red. It looks calmer thanks to this cleanser and I also use it to remove my make-up as well and it does a great job for foundation and face products but as with all things, may need a little work with removing eye makeup. Overall, I give it a thumbs up!

2. Cetaphil UVA/UVB Defense Sunscreen

The next to be in the spotlight is the Cetaphil UVA/UVB Defense sunscreen. I’m sure we all are looking for the perfect sunscreen. It’s sort of a step that’s become forgotten and taken for granted. Some sunscreens appear way too white on the skin, and some just too oily. But I’m happy to say that the UVA/UVB defense is actually a pretty good pick. I mean, it has to be since I finished mine.

This milky cream is SPF 50+ with UVA 28, claims to be easily absorbed into the skin, leaves no white residue and is good for all skin types. One thing to remember is also how versatile Cetaphil products are. They can be used for both the body and the face!

Let’s put it on shall we. I know it’s something we don’t like doing but sunscreen should actually be applied quite liberally and before your moistriser. Check out my Sunscreen Guide for all you need to know about this often forgotten skincare product.

Although the sunscreen appears white when applied, it takes a while for the white residue to disappear and it really does go to a nice glowy once blended in. To be honest, you shouldn’t put your makeup right after you apply your sunscreen. This is because you should wait a while for the sunscreen to be fully absorbed into the skin. After blending and waiting a few minutes, it’s like you never put anything extra on making it great for make-up. Possibly the only thing I would change is that it takes a while to blend in and achieve that non-white residue finish. If you’re not careful, you will give it a pre-mature judgement but if you blend it throughly you’ll see the results!

Overall, I really do like this sunscreen and I also like how it’s great for the body and not just the face. I’m glad it’s a multi-tasker as we are often left having separate products for both costing us even more. I’m really quite impressed with Cetaphil and have enjoyed using them to the last drop. But enough of what I think, in fact, here’s what you’ve said from my last Cetaphil blog post in the comments!

For more, you can click here to check out more of your entries on my last post and a few awesome testimonials! I didn’t even expect for you all to give your testimonial as it was a giveaway and haul but it ended up that so many people said that Cetaphil really worked for them!

So if you have sensitive skin, or any skin actually, pick up Cetaphil for sure and I hope you like it as much as we do! Plus, check out their Facebook page for more updates! https://www.facebook.com/CetaphilSG

Hey Everyone,

I think I’ve probably been hearing about SK-II Facial Treatment Essence ever since I was 10 years old. Everyone knows this baby from countless ads about it being a miracle water and the best product for achieving crystal clear skin. The story goes that the secret ingredient to SK-II’s success, Pitera, was discovered when a scientist noticed in the 70s that the women who worked at a Sake brewery had soft and youthful hands. Years later, they isolated that main nutrient rich ingredient as Pitera and have used this as the star of the show for the majority of SK-II products.

After trying the SK-II facial treatment essence, I am now officially an SK-II convert. The Facial Treatment Essence is AMAZING. When you pour it into your hands, it looks just like water and also does have peculiar smell. It smells funny but after you use it daily but after a while, you do get used to the smell. Just simply pat the treatment essence on the face and liet it absorb into the skin.

The first few times I used it, it barely produced any results except for a ridiculously awesome glow. There were few results probably for the first 5 or 6 days. But, I persevered and in just 2 or 3 days and I’m glad I didn’t give up. It transformed my skin to make it translucent, supple, springy and helped clear my skin up. I think it really helped to balance whatever was making me break out as well. My skin looked amazing plus I noticed also in the first few days a really beautiful glow of my skin when I woke up in the morning, it was shining but there was no trace of oil at all. I know this stuff is pricey, but it’s worth it. I also hear that it has broke people out a fair bit but I guess our skin is made different!

The left side is the hand I use to apply the SK-II essence. I pour it into my left hand and you can sort of see the patch that looks fairer than my right palm! Thought this was pretty cool!

Overall, the SK-II Facial Treatment is great and worth every penny. I can see myself using this for the rest of my life!

Roseanne

Hey Everyone!

Fancl to me has always been one of those brands I’ve wanted to try  for so long, but never got around to doing it. From the super bright store lights, to the beautiful sales assistants dressed to the T, I’ve always been curious at what they had to offer. I mean c’mon, Japanese beauty products belong to a whole new world and I happen to be a fan of the whole thing. Not only do they offer skincare, they also offer supplements to just about any womanly ailment out there, whether it’s fiber  to slimming to hormones for skin clarity. I find that pretty cool.

But if you’re unfamiliar with Fancl, Fancl is a very popular Japanese brand here in Asia created in the 1980s which believes in the philosophy of “Mutenka”. “Mutenka” is a holistic approach to a lifestyle that advocates “fresh, pure and safe” and one that is free of additives and stressful elements. That being said, their products are also free of potentially harmful perservatives and other additives. It is an innovative beauty and skincare company that has now expanded to Inner Care beauty products like TenseUp Ex, Bitoki, HTC Collagen, and over 400 other beauty products. How awesome!

This is my first time trying out Fancl Products, so here is a haul and my first impressions of the lot! I got these babies thanks to Fancl’s invite to their Fancl Ballet of Beauty. It was an awesome experience which I’ll tell you all about later!

1. Fancl Mild Cleansing Oil

The Fancil Mild Cleansing oil is I think the star of Fancl’s skincare line. To be honest, when I was a noob at make-up and skin-care, I thought people who slathered oil on their faces to cleanse were crazy. But little did I know that oil can actually serve to cleanse better and effectively remove make-up better. Fancl’s Mild Cleansing Oil uses unique nanotechnology to break makeup down so that it can be rinsed off easily. The oil contains meadow foam oil which cleans out your pores and says goodbye to whiteheads and blackheads. It removes all traces of make-up effortlessly, clears out keratin plugs, minimizes pores and improves skin texture.

After using it for a while, it really does remove make-up well. You’d have to be careful not to wet your face first because I think it more effectively removes make-up with direct contact with it. Simply pump some of the clear oil into the your hands and rub the makeup off in circular motions. The stuff instantly removes any eye-makeup including mascara and my skin feels much softer after use. I’m liking it so far but I’m curious as to why Fancl products are all so small! These babies also have expiry dates. This one in particular will only last you 120 days!

2. Fancl Facial Washing Powder (SGD$ 26.00 for 50g)

When they brought out the foam at the event, I was suprised that the creamy and dense foam was created with the Fancl Facial Washing Powder. I’ve also seen ads on this around and thought it was a cool product. After all, usually foaming cleansers are already foamed up and you don’t have to do any work. But remember the philosophy of Mutenka? This baby doesn’t have those additives (SLS and SLES) that other foaming cleansers have. That’s why you gotta do the hard work yourself.  Because it is such a dense foam, it is able to lift out impurities without making your skin feel tight.

Fancl also wishes that you don’t use any cotton or cotton wool buds. They suggest using your clean fingers. Because the foam is so dense, you don’t even need to touch your face when you apply it. Just move the foam gently on your skin without touching it with your fingers. It’s weird and I would show you, but I decided not to since they didn’t give me the puff to foam this baby up! That’s right, the Fancl Washing Powder comes with a foaming puff that you use to make the foam so that it becomes dense and creamy. I’ve been just trying to use my fingers and I’m failing miserably.

But it’s still an interesting and cool product! I just need that foaming puff and I can’t wait to use it more!

3. Fancl Lotions – Fancl Lotion (SGD $29.50) & Fancl Milky Lotion (SGD$29.50)

After removing your make-up and cleansing, the next step is to apply Fancl Lotions. Fancl offers two lotions – the Fancl Lotion and the Fancl Milky Lotion. The Fancl lotion protects the skin from daily stress factors like UV rays and dryness while restoring natural functions for softness. The moisturising agent within the lotion enhances penetration and delays the release of moisturising agents which prolongs the duration of …moisturisation. So basically, not all the goodies in the bag spill out, they spill out slowly.

The Fancl Milky Lotion however has the added benefit of sealing in moisture and nutrients. The Milky lotion has veiling agents which are wrapped in Lecithin capsules which prolongs moisture retention within the skin. It also can protect the skin from external irritants. I haven’t tried these babies yet to be honest, but I’ll get around to doing it!

#4 Fancl Overnight Hydrating Pack (Limited Edition, SGD $56, available from 24th August 2012 at Fancl Counters)

This Limited Edition product is an overnight leave-on mask. I love overnight masks, I think they do wonders after a good rest. You wake up to your skin feeling uber soft, I love it! This one in particular nourishes and infuses your skin with moisture as you sleep. It is a silky veil that supports skin repair and protects skin from moisture loss as you sleep. It has four key ingredients. These include Silk Peptide  (has a similar structure to our own skin and seals it so that moisture loss does not occur) and Rooibos extract (South African herb rich in minerals and can control sebum oxidation), Acetyl Hyaluronic Acid (Keeps skin moist and soft) and Amino Capsules (delivers these nutrients into the skin quickly).

It feels super silky and soft on the skin. Just pump a few pumps and spread evenly. Go to bed, and you wake up with super soft skin. It’s like magic!

I just wanted to thank Fancl for putting on such an awesome event to get to know us at the Fancl Ballet of Beauty! Can you spot me?

We even got to have our skin tested out by the beautiful Fancl girls. Apparently I have well-moisturised skin with 72 points, good collagen count and not bad in skin clarity!

Yay! I’m proud of myself and this thing is awesome!

Before dinner, all of us took Fancl’s Calorie Limit. It’s a all natural health supplement that helps you maintain your weight no matter how much you stuff in. Well, take that lightly, I’m sure it sort of still matters! But hey, how cute are these supplements!

This was totally unexpected, but we had a duo of ballerinas visit is while we dined. They danced beautifully. I have great respect for ballerinas. They have so much discipline and it’s a lot of hard work. Hats off to them!

To end it all, the ballerina was part of the Fancl demonstration and danced off!

So there you have it! I’ll probably be doing a more detailed review of the mild cleansing oil and the washing powder!

Hope you like this post!

Love, Roseanne

Hey Everyone!

There’s just something about clay masks that makes me swoon. It might be the fact that I get to play the part of the Wicked Witch and jump out of doors scaring the daylights out of people (not that I do) or that remarkably clean feeling after you wash it off. In fact, if I were to choose between sheet masks and organic clay masks, I’d probably be caught raising my hand to that ooey gooey goodness in a jar. Today, I’ll be talking about my hands down favourite clay mask by far – the Cellilux Deep Sea Glacial Mineral Gel including my thoughts, a little tutorial, before and after pictures and a giveaway of a tub to call your own.

A few months ago, I was contacted by Life’s Miracle Asia, the distributor of Cellilux in Asia to try out a tub of this stuff. At first, I was a little skeptical because I had been disappointed by a few masks that claimed to make skin improvements but actually failed to. Yet, going to their facebook page and seeing results like this:

I guess you could say I was pretty sold. I agreed to review the product for a month so after a month, here’s the verdict!

What is Cellilux?

But you’re probably wondering what is it? Cellilux is a skin mask, which means that not only can it be used for the face, it can be used for all parts of your body that needs a little help. I’ve been cooking heaps lately and I think I need to get help in the small burns department. I always manage to brush up against something hot and I thought why not try Cellilux on it. After applying it and waiting for about 30 mins to wash it off, the redness was totally gone and it didn’t hurt a bit. I usually have to put some antisceptic cream to prevent an infection but Cellilux totally healed it up!

But besides being a skin mask, Cellilux can revitalize skin meaning that it brings back the glow, slow the signs of aging and improve the look of wrinkles because it tightens and firms the skin very well, removes dead skin cells as it exfoliates a bit when you wash it off, cleanses naturally being 100% natural and creates ridiculously soft skin. It is also known for treating acne, oily skin, greasy hair, insect bites and bruises. It purifies and detoxes the skin. In fact, this stuff is used in premium spas internationally, whereby just one facial with Cellilux will cost over 200 dollars.

To do all that, Cellilux is actually made from Colloidal Clay, or Canadian Glacial Clay from British Columbia. You’re talking 10,000 year old clay in a jar with the same nutrients and minerals that you’re applying onto your skin. It is created below sea level and absorbs nutrients from the sea, hence the a “deep sea secret” and contains approximately 13 minerals and 26 trace minerals. The mask is known for it’s “Ion” factor meaning that it has negatively charged ions to attract positively charged ions on the skin, removing bacteria, cleaning the pores, and creating overall better blood circulation. Pure awesomeness.

Glaciar or Glacial clay in particular means that the clay is formed in fine particles as fine as the mist on a fog bank which probably lets you in on just how fine this stuff is. It has to be like this because to be classified as “colloidal”, the particles of this material must not exceed Like, I have never felt such a texture in my life. It feels like the most luxurious gel cream, you will ever find. It’s so cool that it’s natural too. The earth is amazing.

How to Apply Cellilux:

But seriously, enough of this mumbo jumbo, let’s see if this stuff works. Give you hint before hand, it really does. So, this is me a month ago. My skin looks alright, I’ve been taking care of it pretty well but you can see that it’s not perfect. Hate to point out my flaws, but I have lots of acne scars between my brows, and also on my cheek and chin.

When you first apply this stuff, you will feel just how luxurious the texture is. It glides on smoothly and it’s such a cooling feeling. Nothing like 10,000 year old clay, really. It also has quite a noticeably spicy stinging sensation when you apply the mask but seriously, no pain no gain. I like products that hurt a little bit because you know it’s up to something.

So, just swirl the mask in. A little note is that as you swirl, the mask sort of moves with you. If that’s happening, then just pat on the skin with your fingers to evenly cover your whole face. You’re supposed to be quite generous as the pot says 1/8 inch thick but it’s hard to do that since I want to make sure I savor using every last morsel.

Once you’ve finished applying it, go out of the bathroom and scare people. Nah, just kidding. Wait 15 minutes or until it is totally dried on your face before washing up!

Once it’s dried, you can really see all the oil spots above your pores meaning that it has absorbed the toxins. You can see them particularly on your nose. At this stage, it feels ridiculously tight. You’ll want to wash it off when it’s done.

Washing off is a bit difficult, you want to “melt” the mask with the water and it rinses off much easier. My skin feels remarkably soft, like super super soft and super clean as well. That’s a first impression for you. The first time I remember  I woke up the next morning with this unexplainable glow. It wasn’t oil, it was just a sheen on my face from the mask. It was awesome!

And this is me 1 Month Later…

My skin feels much softer and you can see that definitely, the skin quality has improved. I have a much better glow and my complexion looks clearer. I also noticed that I got more fair, and my skin looks more lively and less dull. I can’t say enough about this. I expected more of my acne scars to disappear but as you can see, it has done a pretty good job already!

It’s like a miracle product!

Where Do I Get it?

So there you have it, my thoughts about Cellilux! I love it, it’s a mask that actually works and I can’t say enough about it. It is however a little pricey at a usual price of $238, not too bad knowing that just one facial already has that price tag. Good thing though, Cellilux was nice enough to offer a discount to all my readers and subscribers! If you want to take advantage of that discount, go here:

They also offer trial packs though if you don’t want to get the whole jar at just $5 with that link as well!

Hey Everyone!

Everyone loves a good face mask especially after a long day, I know I do. I’ve already told you what my favorite face masks were in this post and I’m here to tell you today that they’ve been re-named and re-formulated to Beauty Clinic I.P.I Lightmax Facemasks! You can get them at guardian stores in Singapore and I thought since I haven’t done a full review on them, that I probably should.

What it’s supposed to do:

The Beauty Clinic I.P.I Lightmax face masks have stable vitamin C-AA2G, arbutin (known for whitening) and mulberry bark extract. We should all know that whitening doesn’t mean getting two shades lighter but it means fairer and more radiant skin. It’s so funny how in Asian countries, people want to become fairer and everyone in western cultures want a tan! My mom and sister carry an umbrella when the sun’s out because they don’t want to get a tan. Pretty ridiculous!

Let’s put it on and put it to the test!

One reason why I love these masks is because of the material. It’s still consistent with the older version using a silk cellulose material. It’s not papery and thick like some other face masks are but instead it’s a very interesting texture that allows most of the serum to sink into your skin, and not the mask. It’s light and cooling on the skin as well.

The fit of these masks aren’t too bad either.

As you can see, the mask allows your skin to be seen. It’s an awesome material.

After putting it on, leave it on for about 15 – 2o minutes. I like to light a candle, put some music on and just relax. Put these in the fridge before hand and you’ll be in for a treat!

When you take it off, you can see just how wonderfully your face glows.  I like these kinds of masks a little better than the cream ones because they are no mess masks. I just put them on, take them off and massage the rest of the serum back into my skin and neck.

Overall Thoughts?

I guess the glow doesn’t lie. I’ve always loved these face masks because of the material you’ll find is like no other. It allows for the product to seep into the skin really nicely and allows it to breathe. The serum (in this case, it’s actually a whitening ampoule) doesn’t feel sticky or thick and dries to a really nice finish. It’s not slimy at all! During exams, they’re a real life saver – I’ll use them almost every other day to really put the glow back into a worn out face.

I would say it really brightens your complexion. The only real thing I would improve is probably the fit of the masks. I’d like the spaces for the eyes to be a little smaller!

It’s time for a Giveaway!

And to that it’s time for a giveaway! I’m giving away a box of I.P.I Light Masks Face Masks!

To win a box of I.P.I Lightmax Face Masks, all you have to do is comment on this post with the following:

Hey Everyone,

Like a cat and it’s scratch post, my skin loves a good scrub. And that is probably the weirdest analogy you’ve heard all day. Apologies. I’ve wanted to try Ocean Salt for a while now. The chunks of sea salt and the smell of a mini margarita in a pot always appealed to me. I’ve even probably had to stop myself from eating it potentially. Enough words said though, I love it, and I use it often in my morning routine to give my skin a good clean. Here’s a review of the LUSH Ocean Salt Facial Scrub!

Housed in it’s iconic black Lush tub, the Ocean Salt Facial Scrub boasts the following:

Basically, it’s a lime, sea salt and coconut mixture that even has a trace alcohol for antibacterial effects. The minerals in the sea salt soften as the salt scrubs away dirt and blockages while the avocado and coconut fat soothes and hydrates the skin. So, even though salt is known for sucking out some moisture, it’s counteracted by the coconut, avocado and violet leaf power combination. When you first get a tub and open it up, you’ll see that first layer of chunky sea salt and all the avocado and lime mixture is in the layer below it. You must take a popsicle stick or use your own finger to mix everything up. It’s seperated to perserve the form of the salt. So remember to mix it up!

Once you get the salt later mixed in, you’ll see that it’s actually a very bright blue mixture. It’s very pretty but mixed into the cream, it becomes a welcome sky blue. The whole thing smells like a yummy margarita and looks beautiful as well. Overall, it’s a very visually appealing product.

If you’re not used to using scrubs, this might not be for you because the chunks are very large and the scrub in my opinion is quite coarse and rough. This is not a gentle exfoliation, it’s pretty hardcore the first few times with the larger chunks. However, if you use it more, the smaller chunks of salt (like your regular table salt) is in the mixture below which makes for a medium exfoliation instead. In other words, it’s very rough the first few times but as you get rid of the larger chunks, it mellows out into a medium exfoliation.

Enough talk, let’s give my skin a scrub! Use your fingers to scoop some of the product and in circular motions apply to your face gently all over. Salt has many antibacterial properties – you know that saying salt and wounds – well it’s good for ya and hopefully may take away any skin bacteria.

After the scrub, be sure to rinse off what you’ve done and ta-da! You are finished!

Overall, I really do like this product and I wouldn’t suggest you use it daily the first few times but instead maybe twice a week. My skin feels much cleaner and smoother after I use this product and it can also be used all over the body. I prefer to use it as a facial scrub but it’s really up to you. It’s a great product and I tend to use a cleanser after it because for me I usually exfoliate and then I cleanse with my regular skin cleanser to make sure that the exfoliating parts are rid of.

I hope you liked this review and if you have any questions, let me know in the comments section below!

Love,
Roseanne

Hey Everyone!

Exams are just around the corner and not only is it time to bring out the tim tams from the kitchen closet, highlighters and different colored pens out, but it’s also time to take special care of your skin. The minimal amount of sleep, the less than honorable diet of comfort food and the stress can make zits pop up faster than you can eliminate them. I always make sure I have face masks ready to brighten up the skin so I can fake a few hours of sleep when I’m out and about.

A few weeks ago, I did a giveaway on my facebook page about one of my all time favorite masks – the Leader’s Clinic Clinie I.P.L Whitelux Masks. A few days later, Cossy.com.sg asked if I would like to try out the Leaders Clinic Insolution Masks. Impressed by the Clinie line, I was more than happy to try out what they had to offer. Here’s an informational haul from the awesome package that they sent me and read on till the end to find out how you can win a box to call your own!

 About Leaders Clinic:

If you haven’t heard, Leaders Clinic has been established in South Korea since 2001 by a group of dermatologists who developed a professional skincare line based on treatments used in their clinic for skin troubles most common to women. In fact, these masks are loved by many Korean celebrities (they have such beautiful skin, it’s not even funny) and have won 5 patents, and a national innovation and scientific honor by South Korea. 500,000 of these masks sell monthly in Korea and now Cossy is the sole distributor of the Insolution line in Singapore! Sweet!

A little bit about the Leaders Insolution Line:

The masks from the InSolution line are developed by skin specialists so its for sure dermatologist tested, plus it’s backed up with huge amounts of research and development. Why InSolution? Basically, it means it solves inner skin troubles with an active ingredient that is proven to help target problems of dry, pigmented, irritated, tired, troubled skin according to the mask you choose to apply. Even better, the masks are paraben (preservative) free, have natural ingredients like Azalea extract and sooth the skin with chamomile extract. They are modifications of the Clinie line using new skin research and the line contains two types of masks – the skin renewal masks which prevent skin troubles and the Skin Clinic masks which help improve the overall health of your skin.

But enough talk, let’s get to the haul!

Cossy was nice enough to sponsor me all of the masks from the Insolution line (I know, right) and even a box of the Mela-Tox for a giveaway! Let’s explore the Insolution line range, shall we?

1. Vita Bright Skin Renewal Mask

The first mask is the Vita Bright Skin Renewal Mask which brightens overall skin tone and promotes clearer skin and the active ingredient is AA-2G which is associated with a Vitamin C complex that will help your skin look beautifully moist and will inject a healthy dose of vitality to dull skin complexions.

2. Collagen Lifting Skin Renewal Mask

The Collagen Lifting Skin Renewal Mask helps with skin elasticity for a younger looking face and helps spur the promotion of collagen within your skin. The marine collagen present in these masks help hydrate the skin and firms it up for that desirable springy baby face!

3. Teatree Relaxing Skin Renewal Mask

The TeaTree masks help relax the skin, reduce symptoms of troubled skin and takes care of pores. The organic tea tree and sprout complex helps calm the skin for that picture perfect complexion.

4. Aloe Soothing Skin Renewal Mask

The Aloe Soothing Skin Renewal Mask uses Aloe and Cactus extract to hydrate the skin and helps calm and balance irritated skin. These masks are also great for sensitive skin and are for those really dry days!

5. Wrinkle Filler Skin Clinic Mask

The Wrinkle Filler Skin Clinic Mask actually helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improves skin elasticity using Trylagen and Adenosine, which helps improves fine lines.

6. AC-Dressing Skin Clinic Mask

This one is a little special. It uses snail secretion. But you know, I’ve heard of sheep placenta and I heard that stuff is the bomb. My mom swears by it actually so hey, I could give snail secretion a chance. The AC-Dressing Skin Clinic Mask uses snail secretion filtrate to basically sooth skin irritation and redness while helping reduce minor scars of troubled spots. Sounds good to me.

7. Aquaringer Skin Clinic Mask

The Aquaringer Skin Clinic mask uses Alps glacier water and Amino Acid Complex to give long lasting hydration and diminishes dead skin cells! The Alps Glacier Water helps to inject hydration, the adenosine present reduces the appearance of fine lines and the NMF or Natural Moisturizing Factor takes away those nasty dead skin cells.

8. Mela-Tox Skin Clinic Mask

The Mela-Tox Skin Clinic masks are for all those lovely ladies who want to look like those beautiful Korean girls in the dramas. It helps improve the complexion of the skin making it more radiant, fairer and youthful. It brightens dull complexions, which would help me the most during exams and does this by suppressing melanin production which is what is to blame for pigmentation problems. It’s also moisturizing and helps eradicate facial blemishes.

I could use that. Why don’t we open this baby up to see what these it looks like inside:

Just like the Leaders Clinic Clinie masks, the textures of these facemasks are sort of collagen-like, like no other really! It feels like silk, most masks feel like paper but nada, one of the things I love about these masks is the feeling of this baby!

Let’s put it on for a few first impressions!

The fit is not bad at all!

After 15 – 20 minutes, time to take it off!

Dun dun dun…

I’m impressed! Look at my skin glow!

First Impressions:

The mask felt really nice and very soothing my skin. It has a very cooling and calming effect. It does however have a slightly sticky like feel a few minutes after you take it off but 10 minutes later, it absorbs into the skin nicely. I think the fit of the mask is great and I love how it’s not paper but sort of like a collagen cotton feel. Great first impression overall.  A few tips – leave this in the fridge because it feels oh-so-good when you put it on after a long day. Also, leave it on for 15 -20 minutes and it’s suggested that you use it for a month, 2 or 3 times a week!  Overall, I can’t say much about the overall skin benefits for now because this is the first time I’ve tried it but I do like the glow after and how nice it feels on the skin.

But, you’re probably wondering, let’s get the giveaway so here it is!

Hey Everyone!

LUSH will always have a soft spot for me. I love walking into their stores and being greeted by what I call cakes of multicolored soaps and those classic black tubs that face masks, moisturisers and cleansers call home. In fact, I can pretty much tell if a LUSH store is just around the corner just by sniffing the air, it has a classic smell and  I love it. Today I’ll be doing a review of one of their best -sellers – the Angels on Bare Skin Cleanser. Just like any standard review, I’ll be talking about the packaging, the product, it’s claims and applying it so you can see the before and after effects of its application. Did you know LUSH is coming to Singapore very soon? I’m so excited.

I thought this video might be a good starter though of the origins of the Angels on Bare Skin cleanser:

LUSH Claims:

LUSH’s description of the cleanser is as follows:

With rose, lavender and kaolin, this cleanser acts as a gentle exfoliator that soothes the skin and controls your skin’s natural oils. Perhaps we’ll see a more polished face.

Packaging/Product:

As with most LUSH products, the Angels on Bare skin cleanser comes in a classic black tub with handwritten squiggles on it. I love this, I think it gives character to the product and is convenient as LUSH products don’t seem to be commercialised and seemingly over-processed. The clumpy mass makes this tub a more than appropriate dwelling.

The form of the Angels on Bare Skin doesn’t take the typical cleanser. It’s like a lump of play dough with twigs in it. Forget about the conventional way of cleansing. It smells amazing with a clean lavender smell. But, you’re probably wondering how to use this though. I mean, there’s nothing you can press down to squeeze some of the product and you’re wondering how the clump can transfer on your face. All you have to do is take a little bit on your palm…

Then, wet the product and the squish the clump into your palm so that the product turns into a paste. Then use that and apply it on your face!

When spread out, it looks just like this:

In fact, let’s do that. First, forgive me for my eye-lids. Not enough sleep makes them do weird things. You can see that the product transfers easily on…

And you’re basically spreading on a face mask like product all over first

before washing the product off…

and being done! I have to say this baby isn’t bad at all.

Overall Review:

Overall, I love how clean my face feels after I use this and how well the lavender and rose oils work together to really soften the face. My skin feels overall calmer after the wash. I’ve been using it for more than a week now daily and I can’t say that there’s huge improvements of the skin, I think it’s more of a short term, it feels nice after – sort of skincare product. I wouldn’t say it has given me any “longer-term” results. For people with good skin, this is a great maintenance product but for those with trouble spots, I reckon you wouldn’t expect this to be a miraculous cure to all your problems. Be careful if you’re not up for a mess when you’re washing this off as well! I tend to splutter everywhere. Overall though, a good cleanser that makes me feel clean and soft.

I like the novelty of the product, but I wouldn’t say it’s utterly amazing and un-subtitutable. If that’s even a word.

Have you tried the Angels on Bare Skin Cleanser? What do you think?

Love,
Roseanne

Hey Everyone!

I have to say that one of the best feelings in this world besides laying on your bed after a long day is whipping on a nice, cold face mask. To add to that, I’ve been getting a lot of requests lately on what I’ve been doing for my skin. I’m blushing but most of you have loved how my skin has looked in my past few tutorials so I thought I might do a review on what I’ve been using lately, a very special sheet mask with not one step, but two.

Before I left for Melbourne, Bidanpo, a Korean skincare company known for their oriental medicine infused masks, gave me a few Bidanpo Mediental 2 Step Fusion masks to use and figuring that it’s a pretty cool mask with two steps, I thought I’d give it a try and I’m glad I did.

The one that I’ll be reviewing is the Baek – Myeong MTS, don’t worry, I don’t know what that means either. Basically, it’s for whitening purposes and for an improvement in skin pigmentation. Again, whitening doesn’t mean getting two shades lighter, it means having more radiant, and fairer skin. Well, let’s see if this jumbo has a backbone in my classic tutorial review.

As with all face masks, remember to start with a clean face.

You heard me right, this is a 2-step system. The mask has 2 steps to ensure that the best nutrients of the mask is absorbed into the skin and that’s done by the provided skin ampoule or mask booster.

The Mask Booster or Ampoule is actually made of 100% bambo water and preps and primes the skin to increase absorption of the mask that you’ll be putting on later. It maximizes the effect of the mask. The texture of the ampule isn’t a sticky serum. Instead, it’s quite watery and smooth.

Simply pour some out and apply to the face in circular motions

After prepping the skin for some action, it’s time to put on that mask. The mask is soaked in fermented bamboo essence, 12 prescious fermenting extracts to be exact. Forget the wine and the cheese, I know that sounds kinda gross, but it’s really good for your skin because it can renew dull complexions. When you first take it out of the packaging, it’s a tan brownish yellow but don’t be turned off by it, just put it on!

Like any other face mask, unfold the mask and fit it gently on. Well, you don’t really have to be gentle actually, just put it on. Manipulate the mask so it covers the majority of your face. This one is a pretty good fit. Notice how you can see my skin through the mask. This mask isn’t made up of some cheap paper, it has a very nice elastic collagen feeling that’s superb when chilled in the fridge. An unexplainable feeling.

Now it’s time to wait. If you’re unpatient like me and a quick 15-20 minute rest won’t do, maybe read a magazine, listen to your favourite tunes or two. In no time, 15-20 minutes will pass and it will be time to take this baby off. To take it off, just peel it off, no washing required.
Time to unveil the results!
and bam! The glow I have to say is pretty good!
To see results I’d suggest using it for at least 2 weeks. No washing required. Massage the rest of the solution into the skin and leave to dry.
Overall: This mask is awesome. I really did see results in that my skin had a natural glow and was more radiant. The only downside to it is that it dries out a little sticky but the stickiness will fade after about 15 minutes. It’s best to do it after a long day. Defintely a mask you should look into!
What’s your favourite sheet mask?
Love,

Roseanne

Hey Everyone,

Oddly enough, I’ve been really into taking care of my skin these days. Normally, I’d remove my makeup, maybe slap on a scrub or cleanser and call it a day. These days, I’m slowly venturing into nicer exfoliants and even serums. When I saw the Philosophy Microdelivery exfoliating wash was  on sale on the Urban Outfitters website, I had to grab it. Applauded everywhere, this baby was a purchase I simply couldn’t resist.

The Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating was comes in a medium sized bottle and claims the following:

1. Exfoliating facial cleanser that provies immediate resurfacing benefits

2. a 30-second cleansing mini peel that can be conducted in the showr, in the bath or at your bathroom sink

3. a regular exfolation that helps buffer fine lines, even skin tone and give the skin a healthy glow

4. Gentle enough for daily use

I’ve been using this stuff for a month right now, ever since exam season, so quite a while to look at the results. But really, you can already notice the results after each use. The exfoliating wash comes in a gel form with super tiny exfoliating particles. The finest I have ever felt on my skin. These particles are so fine that they kinda feel like sand at first when you first try it out. To me, because I simply have to exfoliate on  a daily basis, it isn’t a harsh exfoliation but for first time users, you may need maybe a few days before you get used to the feeling. Trust me, it’s worth it!

Let’s apply it to see how well it works!

This is me in the morning. You know that “Don’t Mess with Me” Stage when you wake up, yeah that’s me. I’m a monster of water retention when I sleep at night so my face looks kinda puffy, especially my eyes, but it usually goes away throughout the day.

Step 1: Rinse. You want to get your face a little wet because the particles glide on a little better so make sure you’re not working on a dry platform.

Step 2: Squeeze a little on three fingers and use that to massage your face with the exfoliant in a circular motion, all over as well. You can see that it really is more like a watery gel with particles because you can barely see it in this picture!

Step 3: Rinse! I don’t suggest you substitute this as your everyday cleanser. This is an exfoliant, not a cleanser – two very different skincare products. I use my cleanser after I exfoliate. Right now, I’m using the Avalon Organics Lift Cleanser.

Step 4: Celebrate in your daily, new found and glowing skin! My skin feels so much cleaner, firmer, and brighter. As I say, it’s like a mini chemical peel in a bottle and I don’t know where I’ve been without it. I do use it daily now, every morning, because I really do feel like it takes away all the grime that I’ve accumlated in my sleep.

Final Verdict?

What can I say. I love this product to bits. It’s albeit pricy if you don’t live in the states but I still think it’s worth it compared to the more higher end exfoliants you might end up buying anyway. I feel cleaner and there’s such a beautiful glow after. To have that every morning is like honey in Pooh’s pot.

1. Exfoliating facial cleanser that provides immediate resurfacing benefits?

Yes, you can see results after every use.

2. a 30-second cleansing mini peel that can be conducted in the showr, in the bath or at your bathroom sink?

Yes, anywhere with water to rinse and wet. It looks like a mini peel in a bottle!

3. a regular exfolation that helps buffer fine lines, even skin tone and give the skin a healthy glow?

I do agree it has made my skin more even, brighter and cleaner looking!

4. Gentle enough for daily use?

I use it everyday and so can you!

The only thing I don’t like is perhaps the packaging of the product. The particles tend to clog and clump up toward the opening so if you don’t clean it and one day decide to push hard, it can totally spurt everywhere! Thus, the bubbles in the previous picture. You can take a toothpick to take out the clog and it becomes normal again. You waste a lot of the product if you don’t do this though!

What’s your favourite exfoliate?

I really like the Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub too!

Love, Roseanne

Hey Everyone,

This could be the most disgusting post that I’ve ever made. That’s because it showcases my two zits. I know, that’s gross Roseanne but trust me, it’s totally relevant to this review. Today I’ll be reviewing a much talked about acne treatment – it’s the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. In this review, I’ll be taking to new freshly baked zits and I’ll be applying them for two nights. Any longer than that anyway you’d think the medication wasn’t very affective I reckon right? My sincere apologies in advance for the images to come.

What does the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion do?

It’s supposed to be a pimple shrinker and a fast, overnight one at that. The Mario Badescu claims that these two layered little bottle is supposed to:

1. Fast

2. Effective

3. “will Shrink ugly whiteheads virtually overnight while you sleep”

INGREDIENTS: Isopropyl Alcohol,Deionized Water (Aqua), Calamine, Camphor, Colloidal Sulfur, Salicylic Acid,Glycerine, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Talc

For more product information: http://www.mariobadescu.com/Drying-Lotion

Again, we’ll see if those claims hold. Let’s go!

Here are the evil villains of the day. Look at them peeking out like nobody’s business. They’re inflamed, angry and have little whiteheads pearing out!

Unlike most topical treatments, the way you would apply this is to dip a cotton bud into the fluid. Make sure the two layers are seperated, you’re supposed to dip through the alcohol into the calamine solution and then bring it slowly up. Do not mix the two laters, again, they need to be seperated.

Once you take it out, you basically have the ammo. Time to shoot some bad boys down.

Just dab the lotion onto the pimples. Then, go to bed. The sensation is tingly and it will sort of hurt like you brazed yourself and you’re putting a bit of dettol on it to clean it up for just a little bit. It feels sort of nice because you know you’re not wasting your money on a dormant product. You will feel something and according to your pain tolerance, it might be bearable or unbearable. For me, with the many threading sessions I attend, this is nothing. I prefer my acne treatments to “hurt” anyway.

Overnight, there were defintely results. You can see the lower zit is much smaller, less inflamed and the whitehead is larger. The whitehead is larger on the large pimple as well. I reckon it did not totally take the zits away but it did do something.

2nd Night. On it goes again.

Wow. After the second night, the whiteheads are gone and they appear much smaller. Again, they’re not totally gone just yet.

As you can see, they are much flatter after the 2nd night.

So, did it work?

Yes, it obviously did work. I wouldn’t say it was very fast but it was effective. I didn’t go beyond two nights because three nights would be considered average so I just wanted to see if it was fast. It was relatively fast but the lotion didn’t take care of the redness and it has very drying properties – that’s exactly how the lotion shrinks the pimple so putting makeup in the morning might be a pain because of the flaky skin. That’s my bad though.

Overall:

1. Fast?

Relatively. Two nights flattened, not redness gone though. It will also leave an acne scar as all pimples sort of do. It’s their little foot print.

2. Effective?

Yes. It works. As you can see.

3. “will Shrink ugly whiteheads virtually overnight while you sleep”?

I thought the whiteheads became larger right? It shrunk the pimple overnight. Yes.

So overall, this is a good acne medication I reckon! It did shrink my zits but I wouldn’t say it’s particularly fast. It also is not good for large patches of acne because I’ve tried that before and it wasn’t as effective as slathering my proactive repairing lotion on patches like those. For spot treatments for one or two zits, this is the way to go.

Hope you liked my review!

Have you tried the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion? What do you think?

Love,

Roseanne

Hey Everyone!

I apologize for the lack of blogging lately. I’ve been totally swamped by good old university work – mouth covered in chocolate and eye-bags the size of god knows what. Despite that, I’ve been on Lush’s tail to try every face mask they have. I’ve reviewed the Lush Brazened Honey Face Mask, and I’m here yet again to do another one. This time it’s the Catstrophe Cosmetic.

If you love blueberries and love them enough that you want to look like Willy Wonka’s Violet Beuraguard when she impulsively chews some gum that eventually turns her into a blueberry, then I’m very pleased to say that this is for you. Although the feeling will be temporary, you can relish in the fact that for that temporary 10 minutes, you will look like one. Congratulations.

What is this baby supposed to do?

Lush’s Catastrophe Cosmetic, besides blueberries, contains soothing chamomile, irish moss, almond oil, calamine powder and talc among others. The ingredients are supposed to act as an antisceptic, calm and soothe the skin and overall reduce inflammation with essential vitamins, minerals and good ole antioxidants.

For the purpose of this review, I can’t obviously dig into my skin to find if those antioxidants are present but I can see if there is an improvement in this skin. Like all reviews, let’s see if these claims hold.

A Look At the Mask:

The texture of the mask is a smooth and thick paste. There are some prickly bits here and there thanks to the skins of the blueberries mashed into the mask but nothing overly exfoliating or even enough to act as a daily facial exfoliant. It smells very fragrant, reminiscent of lightly sweetened blueberries and I reckon purple flowers like violets and lavender. It’s for sure a scent that is nothing to complain about. The mask comes in the same sort of tub that every LUSH fresh face mask comes packaged in which brings about 10 uses depending on the thickness applied at each use. This is fine mainly because the mask will expire in three weeks and because it is a slightly drying, it is not a mask to be used daily. Catastrophe Cosmetic being made of fresh ingredients must be refrigerated which is a welcome demand because these masks are absolutely heavenly when applied straight from the fridge.

Let’s Put it On:

Step 1: Start with a “freshly” cleansed face.

Step 2: Dig some of the mask out from the tub with your fingers. You can see just how thick this mask is. It reminds me a lot of the Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask!

Step 3: Spread the mask evenly over your complexion with your fingers. The mask shows a little resistence so you’re going to have to push a bit because it’s so thick. It’s such a nice break from the usual nitty gritty masks that LUSH makes even if you can still feel a bit of prickly bits from the blueberry skins.

Step 4: After the mask is evenly spread, it will look something like this. I don’t really like applying double layers of masks because this mask does contain an ample amount of talc to soak up oil. Too thick a layer will dry up the skin, even for combination skin like mine.

Step 5: Wait 5 to 10 minutes. I tend to wait about 10 to 15 minutes just because I want my moneys worth. Just Kidding! I feel like I need to give it ample time until it looks something like this. All crackly.

Step 6: Rinse off the mask with warm water. These masks are always such an absolute mess to wash up because they take a little while to dissolve the substance before it can melt off with the water. The skin looks smoother and more glowing after the application!

What do I think about it?

This mask is great because it feels nice. It does make my skin smoother to a degree but nothing substantially noticeable. I really only use this mask because it feels super refreshing after the wash but I don’t know about the skincare benefits. My regular zits popped up here and there and I have to say that the after effects are nothing unique and special to celebrate about. If I used a scrub from Biore, I would still have the same effects on my skin.  Overall, I did notice less redness after I washed off the mask and a very smooth, soft and clean feel on my face as you can see from the pictures!

Perhaps its the fact that I know that blueberries have antioxidants and that the antioxidants are good for my complexion that makes me buy into the quality of these masks. If we eat an apple, we know that it’s good for us, but do we immediately see the effects? Not really. We could be taking in the antioxidants but I did not specifically notice again any unique or special effects. Yet, it didn’t hurt to have this mask, it made me feel special at the end of the day so I guess I’m pretty much neutral, leaning on to happy. Maybe a mask isn’t only applied just because it provides you skincare benefits, perhaps people wear masks because it makes them happy. I know I do. Also a bit of a warning to more dry skin types, you might find this a little too drying. Your favourite moisturiser applied after will suit you just fine.

I’m currently on my LUSH BB Seaweed mask now, look forward to a review when I can!

Hey Everyone!

Sunscreen should be part of your everyday routine. Applied before your make-up and moisturiser, sunscreens should be in direct contact with the skin. Why? It prevents you from all sorts of ailments including pre-mature aging and even skin cancer. For a more indepth overview of all you need to know about sunscreen, do click on my earlier post right here, click away:

Back to Basics: All you need to know about Face Sunscreens & Sunscreen Tips

Getting back to the review, the Leader’s Clinic Senstive Sun Cream is one of my favourites. I’m on my second bottle and I have’t found a sunscreen yet that has treated me as well as this one has. This was given to me by Leader’s Clinic and I was not compensated for this review. Honesty is a given. Rarely am I willingly to go out and re-purchase a product that has been sponsored to me before. The Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Mineral Makeup was the only one thus far and it looks like I can’t do without this one either. Let’s get on shall we?

About the Sensitive Sun-Cream:

So what’s so special about this one? Leaders Clinic claims that this baby is a mild sunscreen, waterproof, is suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin and offers the quality of a make-up base. It also protects from UVA and UVB rays with a PA rating of PA+++ which is super impressive because that means, from my sunscreen post, you would learn that it offers the highest protection from UVB rays, the rays that cause invisible damage that can consequently lead to Melanoma and skin cancer. Opuntia Extract (I’ve reaserched and this stuff is sourced from the prickly pear cactus) soothes irritated skin caused by sun damage. Sounds good but does it live up to it’s name, we’ll see.

What Do I Think?

First of all, I absolutely love how this product is tinted. I find that too many sunscreens often give me an unwanted white over-cast but the fact that this is tinted helps me to not only protect my skin from the sun, it helps hide unwanted red spots. It’s very similiar to a tinted moisturiser and don’t be misguided by the fact that the cream says well, cream. I would say that it’s in the middle of a cream and lotion. It’s not obviously runny, but it’s light enough that it’s able to be easily applied all over the face. It’s great for everday for that reason because you don’t even feel the stuff after you’ve applied it.

Gosh I look like I need sleep. Well it’s 1:30 AM right now, so I probably look like that right now but whatever. This is me without makeup on at about 8 AM in the morning before a lecture. It’s make-up time and the first thing I apply is the Leader’s Clinic Sensitive Sun Cream. I do this before any makeup application so the sunscreen comes in direct contact with my skin as all sunscreens should. The reason is because for the sunscreen to work, it must be absorbed into the skin. I usually leave this on for about 10 minutes. I might go ahead and pack my bag for class and then I continue with my make-up.

When the product is not yet blended, you can see that it looks kind of white. It’s very similar to BB cream consistency if you’re familiar. I don’t think you should use it as a BB cream unless you’re into basically little to zero coverage but that’s cool too. Once the product is blended though, you don’t even notice it’s there. Use clean fingers to apply it all over your face. With all sunscreens, don’t forget to emphasize protruding features like the bridge of your nose or the tips of your ears believe it or not. Perhaps even your cupids bow!

And there we have it. Obviously some blemishes are still visible but you can see it looks smoother slightly but the key reason why I like this stuff is because it doesn’t have that white over-cast. Once you’ve applied the sunscreen, go ahead with your foundation. I love this product because it’s light, easy to apply, offers a bit of coverage and doesn’t give me the white over-cast. It’s not super oily either like some sunscreens are nor is it staticly matte like the Physiogel sunscreen. It’s basically I think the perfect balance.

But, How Can This Product Improve?

Besides being a great addition to your make-up routine, I’m looking at the ingredients list and there’s a few things that might not be too Dermatologist savvy like dimethicone, Methylparaben and Propylparaben that may cause skin irriation to those who aren’t used to it. But you know what, most make-up items have that anyway so I really wouldn’t be complaining. The high SPF 50 may also be a little overboard. Higher SPFs don’t always mean better, remember. Too high an SPF is sometimes unecessary when an SPF of 15 – 30 will do. I really am trying to find something to not like in this product though and I’m pretty much lost for words. I’m for sure re-purchasing when I run out.

Hey Everyone!

Here’s a great mask that I used tons when I had exams last semester and one that I’ve recently re-discovered again. As you know, LUSH has a variety of masks available that treat various ailments like acne and dry skin but I tend to look for masks that do a bit of detox work after full week with makeup on. During that time I was in the middle of studying for exams. Think lots of junk food and late nights with my regular make-up routines on and in full swing. The Lush sales assistant suggested I use the Brazened Honey face mask to detoxify and exfoliate the damage I was causing from the late nights and possibly clogged pores so I bought this and it has to be one of my favourites from the LUSH mask range. Here’s my review of the LUSH Braznened Honey Face Mask.

Ingredients and what it’s all about:

This mask is supposed to detoxify, stimulate and exfoliate with refreshing herbs like Sage, Rosemary and Juniper berry, fresh fennel, almond oil, parsely, tumeric, ginger oil and even ground cardamom and coriander. It sounds more like a recipie for your favourite weekend dish more than a face mask but that’s possibly why I’m in love with LUSH face masks. They use free range eggs and many skin enriching herbs – most fresh which is why each mask has a label that details when the product was made fresh, by who and when it should be used by. Each mask is also supposed to be stored in the fridge because of the free range eggs in the mask.

Texture:

A warning goes out to anyone with highly sensitve skin. This is a very grainy scrub. In fact ground almonds are the main exfoliant in this product (I reckon which is reall cool) and I reckon it’s even a little bit more harsher than the St. Ives Apricot scrub. If you’re not up for such a high exfoliant, taking off the product might be a little troubing for you as it really cleans and purifies taking away all the dead skin cells when you wash the mask off.

This mask also contains Kaolin and Talc to absorb facial oil. A good thing but maybe not so much if you don’t like masks that sort of tighten as they dry up.

Let’s put it on shall we?

First of all, remember it should be in the fridge because it’s a fresh mask. I really don’t mind because when you dip your finger into it, ( a very very thick paste) and grab some of the product – the first slather on your face feels so good. It’s so cooling and refreshing.

Go ahead and spread the product evenly all over your face. You don’t need a super thick layer, an even spread will do. This mask is pretty hard to wash off so you don’t want to pile on too much. After you’re done, wait about 10 to 15 minutes for the mask to turn into a semi-dry state

It should look something like this. As you can see, there are areas where the mask has dried into a more white area while of course still bits of thick areas are still not dry yet but it’s alright. With all masks, you have this weird intuition or at least I do when I know a mask is done. Honestly, it’s when you feel like you just want to take it off!

I suggest washing this mask off with warm water. Simply carry forth some water in the cup of your palm and slowly and gently rub the mask off so that it slowly dissolves and washes off. Again, this takes a little longer than you might expect because of the exfoliation part and after it’s dry, it’s not super easy to come off either.

My sink get’s into a bit of a mess, but I like what it does to my skin after!

Results:

And there we go. My skin is glowing after the exfoliation and I feel much cleaner. My skin is super duper smooth and it just feels so good. As for acne benefits, I still have blemishes from time to time but I really do feel like it cleans out and detoxifies my skin. It’s just that super duper clean feeling! It’s so good after a week of make-up every single day. When I was wearing this during the weeks prior to exams, it really helped me in the breakout department. I usually breakout like crazy but I did see a reduction in the number of breakouts I had compared to last semester. The only thing I have a problem with might be just how dry it might make you feel when you wear it. If you have dry skin, this mask shouldn’t be for you. Overall though, I love it. It’s a mask I’ll always go to when I know my skin needs a good clean.

What product do you use to get clean?

P.S: There’s a MAC giveaway on my Facebook Page ;) Find out what it is here: http://www.facebook.com/roseannetangrs . You betta hurry babe because it’s closing tomorrow already!

Hey Everyone!

A while back I was sponsored by Dermalogica to do a review of their new Clean Start Line. This will be sort of a continuation post, if you need any more information about each product, then click here for my haul. A more indepth explanation of what each product is supposed to do will be listed there. Here, it’s more about what it did.

Overall, I’m one happy reviewer. I loved the line for it’s fresh and clean feel and the packaging while their fruity scents made my morning and night routine enjoyable. The effectiveness of each product was pretty good. I used this line during exams and with an average of about 4-5 hours of sleep, I should have had more blemishes. But nope, I only had one or two during that stressful period.

Let’s dig deeper shall we?

1. Dermalogica Clean Start Wash-Off for Face, Back and Chest

This would be my favourite product of the whole range. A gel cleanser with a zesty orange bang, it feels so good once you foam it up between your palms and apply it to your face in circular motions. After the rinse, it gives a very nice clean feeling and tones down the skin. My complexion just looks better after a session with wash-off and it’s very soft and gentle. As you can see, it doesn’t produce a lot of foam at all, but just enough to pack a punch.

2. All Over Clear – Spray On Toner

I have to be honest, I’m just not a fan of toners. This one smells like lemongrass which I wasn’t a fan of either. Just like any toner I’ve tried before, I really didn’t see much of a difference or feel that different either although it was a welcomed and refreshing spritz in the morning. It easily absorbs into the skin with a few pats and I like the spray on technique, it’s a lot easier without the fuss of cotton swabs.

3. Ready, Set, Scrub – Exfoliant and Clay Mask

I liked it, but I didn’t love it. This is a very fine scrub which is good because you’re going to be spreading it all over your face. Don’t use too much because you could end up on the itchy and scratchy show but the clay really did calm and soften after the rinse off. It smells like fruit loops. Whether it really did anything is questionable but it was fun.

4. Dermalogica Clean Start Bedtime for Breakouts

This is an effective product after a couple of uses. For large zits, it really does help to shrink them overnight but don’t expect Honey I Shrunk the Kids shrinkage, it’s a gradual one over a series of 3-4 days but it does work. I really don’t like the smell of this product, it smells like burnt plastic and if benzoyl peroxide which is a more effective acne medication can smell like soap from the Proactiv, Dermalogica should have smelt this baby first before putting it in this line.

5. Welcome Matte SPF 15 Moisturiser

When you put this moisturiser on your hand, it feels matte, but on the face, not matte. It gives a nice glow actually but I like it for a night moisturiser. It really does seep into my skin easily and it’s a very light and enjoyable lotion to use. Not the best that I’ve tried, but it does the job.

6. Brighten Up SPF 15 Tinted Moisturiser

It’s a very light coverage product, probably lighter than any other tinted moisturiser that I’ve tried before. Not a product that I would use in this case because I like the coverage so really, it’s a moisturiser for me which I don’t really need. I didn’t see that much of an improvement in the brightening arena too, but it again blended easily and felt nice on the skin. You’d just have to have really good skin to pull this one off. I don’t have that kinda skin.

7. Smart Mouth Lip Shine

Phew. Last one. The one thing I didn’t like about this was the smell. Smells way too strong and it pivots on the edge of being gross with the orange and vanilla put together. I don’t use it anymore because the smell gets to me. Other than that, it’s a great lip balm, and provides decent shine. Not something a makeup obsessed person would particularly like to use because lipsticks and lipglosses are sometimes fun to put on but as an overnight treatment, it does a pretty good job in keeping lips soft.

Despite some glitches in the smell of some products, or even whether the product was particularly unique, I liked the Dermalogica Clean Start line overall. I think it was reasonably effective but most of all, I’m a sucker for marketing and boy does this line make you feeeeeeel good. :)

Hey Everyone!

I have to stay that reviewing face masks are a challenge. You can’t use them everyday, you put them on once and you can’t really see the difference at times but I’m going to do my best for you. Here’s a review of the Leader’s Clinic Masks which were sponsored to me way back and I didn’t find the time to do until now. Because of the amount of masks given to me, I think doing them slowly in parts, highlighting three at a time is best. You can get these masks at Guardian and they make great stress-relievers when you put them all in the fridge first and whip em out when you need a break.

Disclaimer: The review consists of my own opinons, the masks were given to me. Alrighty then.

Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

One of the key trademarks of these masks are the silk cellulose masks that are soaked in the product of either essential extracts or an actual ampoule. Refer to my haul of theses masks in this post for a better idea: http://roseannetangrs.com/?p=9170184. I have to say you get a lot of product in each satchet so no worries there and I do like the material. It allows my skin to breathe.

Well, aren’t I attractive here? Ha-ha. No. But, for the sake of this review, here I am, exactly what you don’t want your boyfriend to catch you wearing before a big date. There goes my love life lol.  Anyway, you can see that the mask is thin enough for you to see even my blemishes, proof that the majority of the product will seep into the skin and not into the mask. A little problem already was that it didn’t really fit me, I wanted the eye sockets to be a little smaller so that the product could attend to my eye-bags but I guess nothing a little shifting can’t solve.

We should probably get down to actually reviewing theses masks. I’m not going to show you before and after pictures, I think that’s a little too much for me to do so trust me, and I’ll let you know exactly what I think.

1. TeaTree Healing Solution Mask

When you open this baby up, it smells very medicinal so if you aren’t for tea-tree medicine smelling things then probably not up for it. Very cooling, very nice, slightly slimy at first but what mask isn’t and I felt a slight tingling sensation when I put it on. Skin effects? After five or so, my redness did decrease around my nose area and my skin looked more toned down but it didn’t stop any breakouts or pimples that I had. Not for that, but for redness it turned out alright.

2. Platinum V-Lift Essential Mask

After five or so, I can’t say this did much at all. I felt a tingling sensation but I don’t think that it really had any effect on lifting my face or making it any firmer than it already was. It was a good mask to pop outta the fridge, girls night out, don’t really care if it does anything, but i’m cool because it’s a sleepover and I’m wearing face masks. Ok, bad joke. Anyway, it didn’t do much. Smells good, clean smelling and a smell I can’t really describe. It’s a good one though.

3. I.P.L Whitelux Ampoule Mask

My favourite out of the three. I really did see improvements in my skin with this and I looked more radiant. This mask was a little different from the rest. It wasn’t slimy, it was the watery sort and I liked it because it didn’t feel heavy on my skin. Skin benefits wise, I really saw a toned down, more fair, radiant complexion after each use. Because it was exam time when I did this every other day before I went to sleep (this was about 2 or 3 AM) so pretty late but still, probably one of my exam life-savers, which I shall do my next post on!

I’m still working on Part 2 but I hope you had a wonderful time reading this. Until next time….(not sure what to say here).

Hey Everyone,

So a month ago, I was sponsored by The Beauty Club to do a review on the Biotherm Aquasource range meaning that no, I did not purchase these products :) It was really either this or the Clinique 3 step skincare system because a few of my friends used/still use Biotherm and they said that the range really cleared up their acne. And seeing that I wasn’t doing well the harsh way by using proactiv, why not the kinder approach? That was probably my number one desire and I have used this range for over a month, so here are the three stars of the show:

Step 1: Biotherm Biosource Hydra-mineral Cleanser Toning Mousse

This baby feels so good when lathered up onto the face – it’s creamy and has a wonderful scent to it. Here’s a description on the back:

“With a 70-mineral complex and balancing zinc. Cleanses and tones without drying skin out. Skin is instantly cleansed and balanced from 7 days, it radiates with a healthy glow. Lather with water in the palm of you hand before applying to a wet face, then rinse off with water.”

My skin felt mucho hydrated after using this and a lot cleaner for some reason although I didn’t see any tangible results. The experience of using this is worth it enough though – super duper creamy and a lot nicer to the skin because there are no exfoliating particles like Proactiv does but I sometimes feel that if it doesn’t how will it ever get anything out? Apparently foam particles are small enough to deeply penetrate pores and pull out existing dirt and residues leaving skin refreshed! But don’t expect too much foam, this is about it:

2. Biotherm Biosource Clarifying Lotion

“Enriched with trace elements and essential mineral salts, this clarifying lotion adds the perfect finishing touch to cleansing and revives the skin’s radiance while providing a sensation of freshness. Apply to the face using a cotton pad”

Honest to God, I really don’t feel a difference when it comes to comparing this with other toners. :)

3. Biotherm Aquasource Non Stop Gel

This is fo sho spotlight stealer. It is an AWESOME moisturiser. I love it. Biotherm boasts that there is 5000 liters of thermal spring water packed into a single jar and it’s no wonder! The texture of this is to die for, its a perfect gel and when applied, it has this super cooling feeling! A great life saver in any dry country I bet! One glitch – it takes a little while longer to blend in than normal but you know its dense packed with minerals because you’ll feel it.

Here’s what it looks like inside:

So did it work??

No, not really. Actually, not at all. It didn’t clear up my acne like I wanted it to and it was a bit frustrating. But honestly it’s my fault. No where on this line does it say that it will clear up acne, it was my own decision to take the kinder approach and I suffer for it :) BUT it really did hydrate my skin. I used to go to counters and have SAs tell me that my skin looks a little dry, but with biotherm, thats not a problem anymore! It totally deleted flakiness and that is what its supposed to really do.

Thumbs up for hydration – 4.5/5.
