Review: Shu Uemura Laque Supreme Lip Lacquers

Hey Everyone!

l1

Today I thought I would do a review of Shu Uemura’s latest lip lacquers – the Shu Uemura Laque Supreme. These are inspired by premium japanese lacquer ware and the packaging is gorgeous. I received the laque supreme gift box consisting of three of Shu Uemura’s laque supreme colors. The box itself has been created in collaboration with Yamada Heiando which is an expert Japanese lacquer ware brand who are purveyors to the Imperial Household Agency since 1919! Each lip piece has been beautifully adorned with high quality and traditional red lacquer to a standard only achievable by a true artisan.

The lip lacquers themselves offer high pigmentation with a brilliant shine and a lineup of 15 statement shades. In terms of technology, all lip lacquers have the shu red-dye complex which is a mixture of red dye and red pigment added to provide deep color intensity to all shades. I have shades RD 04 (the iconic red that Mr. Shu Uemura cherished as his favourite red), WN 02 (a warm hot pink) and PK 01 (a lighter vivid pink). My favourite is RD 04 which I will be showing you in a bit!

The applicator of the lacque supreme is also pretty cool. It reminds me of a wave, but really it is because it has an ergonomic design and helps in more precise lip contouring and fits to the shape of your lips better.

So what do I think of the lacque supreme? They’re super smooth and hydrating. I think we do have to remember that they aren’t 100% opaque liquid lipsticks. They have a sheerness to them. I would stay they are for sure a step up in opacity from a gloss, but still less opaque than a liquid lipstick or a full on lipstick. This somehow makes these lip lacquers much more wearable but if the slight translucency annoys you, you might want to opt for a full on lipstick.

Overall though, I am not saying that these lippies are sheer in any way. As you can see, they are quite pigmented. Actually, very quite pigmented. But again there is a slight translucency if you look closely and a few smacking of lips is required to blend the product fully. I love how wearable these lip lacquers feel. Even though they provide good pigmentation, they dry out to a smooth and almost gel like consistency which is hydrating and not tight. It provides shine without the weight and although I would usually stay away from gloss products like these because of how heavy it feels, these are for sure an exception. If you like pigmented gloss, this is for you.

Overall, these are pretty good. With the combination of gorgeous packaging from the lacquerware and quality product, I’d give this a solid four stars. For sure something to check out when you’re at the Shu Uemura counters! It retails for SGD $40 each. Thank you Shu Uemura for sending these over for a review!

Much Love,
Roseanne
