Review: Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB Foundation

Hey Everyone!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Happy Thursday. I haven’t raved about a good bb cream in months. There were none. All were a little too gray, made me way too shiny and just didn’t provide the coverage I needed. Well, until I came across this one. It was really a spontaneous purchase at the Holika Holika counter at Isetan at Wisma and I finally don’t regret it.  I bought it for about $32 which is a really good price actually. I first laid eyes on the Aqua Petit Jelly BB in Sunnydahye’s video – she does crazy good asian make-up and kpop tutorials  and I’ve been wanting to jump on the asian make-up bandwagon since forever. And fine, I was a sucker for this cute little packaging. The name was too cute to resist either – i mean..aqua..petit…jelly? Why Yes, I do want to put that on my face. Someone save me before I start rolling around in it and tossing it in the air. Okay.

The Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB actually comes in two shades and a glowy highlighter/primer. This is the “first” shade and the second shade is a little darker. It comes in a rather big bottle – about…(I just spent five minutes trying to read korean and gave up). It’s just a pretty big bottle as you can see. I like how theres no gimmicks to this, no trying to hide foundation in an unreachable area. The stuff is in a large jar like bottle and you scoop it all out using a spatula wand.  The Aqua Petit Jelly BB claims to have a jelly texture that helps spread evenly and creates fully hydrated and shiny skin. It also claims to be good for covering up blemishes and makes the skin soft and bouncy.

I’ve put that to the test for a while and here’s what I found. The way you apply it is like any other bb cream. My friend from Hong Kong taught me this and you’re supposed to dot your face with the stuff and then use three fingers to pat it into the skin. It’s the only way you won’t get that white cakey face and just too much bb cream. Your finish will look like skin, I assure you.

What I liked about this stuff was that it really looked natural. You’re looking at a matte to semi matte finish actually, and nothing near hydrating, jelly and glowy because you don’t get that. I’ve never seen a bb cream that looked so natural before, a close call would be the Rachel K CC cream and to be honest this stuff happens to be a very similar formula to it when the CC cream first launched (now its more hydrating). It covers really well too. I mean, really well. Impressive medium coverage and it would be great for someone who really didn’t have that many blemishes too. Very natural looking, absorbs really well into the skin, semi matte finish with good and decent coverage.

My skin looks like skin. Thumbs up to the Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB. You’re cute and effective.

Do you have any asian brand makeup or skincare product suggestions that you’d like me to review? I’m all up for it right now!
