Today is the start of YSL week! Well, that’s what I’m going to call it anyway. I’ll be reviewing three of my favourite items from Yves Saint Laurent make-up in three seperate posts! I love YSL make-up. They have the sophistication and class I love mixed with high performing and dependable products. I’ll be reviewing specifically some of the more popular make-up items from the iconic brand – being the YSL Touche Eclat, Le Teint Touche Eclat Liquid Foundation and the YSL Glossy Stain in 104!
I thought I’d start off with the YSL Glossy Stain. It’s been raved about so much so I was super excited to unbox mine and see if it really has earned it’s claim to fame. Basically YSL says the Glossy Stain provides ultimate wear, color and shine. It is a long-lasting stain formula for the lips and is made of pure water soluble pigments fused in a transparent texture for non-sticky, long-lasting and hi-shine gloss.
My particular YSL glossy stain is from their Rebel Nude Collection and is in Fuchsia Tomboy #104. I don’t know why but these high end brands always have super long names for their products! So basically the color is a beautiful fuchsia but leaning more on what I think is a hot pink. You know I love my hot pink! It’s like my other bold lip color next to my favourite deep reds! The applicator is interesting too – in sort of a spatula snake-head form. It makes applying the tint much better.
Well, let’s put it on shall we? To be honest, I thought the glossy stain was more of a lip gloss than a lip tint. I never really considered it to be a tint for some reason or a stain. So, much to my surprise – it had a very water like texture. I was like whoa, it’s like applying water on my lips. I even considered the fact that maybe I didn’t shake the product before applying it.
That being said, the color is still good but you might want to be careful with just applying it with the wand. Because it’s like water basically – it tends to move on your lips a lot more. You’ll get that look like you just put a lot of colored water on your lips. My recommendation is that you apply the glossy stain and sacrifice your finger to blend out the product a little so you have a more even distribution.
The texture is there though. It is slightly heavier than a lip stain because it does have a gloss edge to it. You can still feel a bit but it feels kind of like silicone primer on the lips. It’s good in a way. It for sure isn’t moisturising nor drying either. The glossy stain is in between but I would consider another alternative if you have dry and chapped lips for the stain can make those lines more obvious. As you can see, I didn’t blend it out with my finger to show you that it can look a bit uneven if you apply it straight from the tube.
The finish lasted a good amount of time as well – possibly 5 – 6 hours. It’s good for daily wear because it feels very light on the lips. On closer inspection, you’ll see the gloss and the different complex glitters that it has. The appearance is quite beautiful and it’s a good way to wear lip gloss without feeling your lips are enveloped in a blanket of sticky-ness. If you like the shine of gloss, go for it. You’ll appreciate you won’t find your gloss slipping and sliding.
Overall, I’d probably rate the glossy stain a 4/5. It’s quite innovative in that it is a gloss and stain in one. However, you’ll have to be careful when applying it and if you have dry lips, might wanna give this one a miss. However, if you want a glossy finish without the hassle, it really is a good bet!
