Review: Revlon ColorStay Foundation – Combo/oily & IMATS

Hey Everyone,

More exciting news first! I’m going to Sydney tomorrow for IMATS on Saturday after a talk with Dad. Super duper excited. Tickets are booked, and the theme this time is Alice in Wonderland, of course one of my favourite tales. Super duper excited. Breathe Roseanne. And look, I’m blogging. Finally, those 2 weeks of hell are over and now i’m able to prance around for at least a few days before I start burry-ing my head in books again.

So here’s a foundation review for you. I’ve decided I’m going to write less, and picture more. So, picture this. A foundation that makes you absolutely flawless and in my opinion blends pretty well and is probably one of the best oil controlling foundations out there. No, it’s not over sixty dollars fortunately, it’s the Revlon ColorStay Foundation.

So, I’ve heard a lot about this baby and lots of it is negative feedback. I get things like it smells bad but honestly I only noticed the smell until a few of you told me and it smells sort of like paint. Like artsy paint which really doesn’t bother me. The only reason why I would think people would dislike this product is that they aren’t used to the coverage.

Yes, really is all of the above but boy does it cover! And it covers so well that sometimes I’m scared to use it because it might have this magical chemical in it that’s actually bad for me. I don’t know if it does but it covers too well. And it controls oil too well. Just too well, I can’t really believe it sometimes. But, believe it because it’s photo time!

It’s a screw top cover which isn’t convenient. I’d rather much prefer a pump but it’s okay, it’s not like I’m wearing the pump on my face I reckon.

The consistency is slightly thicker but one of the best ones I’ve had. I don’t like a foundation that’s too runny, I don’t trust that it will give me the coverage I need.

And yea, I do need coverage but my skin has been healing up pretty well and this stuff does’t break me out!

It’s foundation time! One of my favourite times of the day!

As you can see, super high coverage. Don’t worry, it might look a little white at theΒ beginningΒ but it does oxidize. Negative feedback spotlight – sometimes ppl say it turns orange but it doesn’t on me. Maybe I got some really good batch or something.

Yea, flawless much?

Even my new Canon S95 can’t pick up the cakiness.

And I’m done, pretty photo worthy stuff!
It’s quite pricy in Australia, being a little less than $40 but if you are looking for high coverage and oil control, this makes a pretty good bet. Make sure you’re used to it or your first application will be quite a shock.
To all going to IMATS on Saturday, see you there!
xx Roseanne

ive heard some reviews on this but oh boy…u just succeeded in temping me! haha! its looks super gd on u babe! but too bad i just bought diorskin nude hydrating make up yest and it cost me $66. =S but then again lately my skin is kinda dry and only a little oily on the tzone…u think this will work on me since it gonna be high coverage and matte, do u tink it will get dry n cakey on me?

  • Layla88

Nice review! Love how you show half your face in foundie and half not; it shows the difference clearly for me. I’m so tempted to get this now, how long does the oil control last throughout the day though?
haha yay foundation time is also one of the favourite parts of my day! πŸ˜› Btw If you don’t mind me asking, how many foundations are you currently using? Or do you finish one then use another? Thanks & have fun at IMAT, wish they’d come to adelaide too πŸ˜› xoxox

  • blushaphoria

wow, the coverage looks amazing. have heard such good reviews of this product and your review is tempting me to get it. and i rarely do wear foundations! :p

  • amyrleex

great review! sooo tempted to get this now..

  • eyelashwishh

My sister and I have been using this foundation for about two years now. We love it so much to keep re-purchasing it. Once in a while, we may stray & try some other new foundations. But we’ll always go back to this one when we want flawless finish because it never fails. πŸ™‚

  • icefrost

Oh i need to give this a try again! Thanks for the review πŸ™‚

  • AtelierGal

I have been using this for 2 years, love the coverage πŸ™‚

  • sfgal

I totally agree Roseanne! I am a faithful user of Revlon’s Colorstay foundation in Natural Tan/Oily,Combination skin. It is thick but I like my coverage that way. It covers flaws beautifully and lasts forever! Plus, the price ($13 and under) is much less expensive than department store brands where you only get 1 fluid oz. of foundation. You don’t need a lot to cover your face, just dot over your cheeks, nose and chin. You can use any leftover foundation for your forehead because this foundation can be pretty heavy! I don’t know where some users are getting the strange smell. I’ve never experienced that with this product. I also like that the foundation comes in several shades. I’m Filipina and its so tough to find a good shade for my skin type which is olive but tan.

  • Anniieee

Wow, it looks amazing… I’m considering trying it out for myself now!

  • roseannetangrs

@linnera: thanks! yep IMATS was pretty goood! gonna do the blog post when I get back πŸ™‚ Try it out, it’s pretty good just that I don’t think ppl are used to high coverage makeup so they complain πŸ˜› How’s working at Benefit?
@ImmaPink I think this foundation wins handsdown on the oil control, never have to blot, so yes it will be good for you! πŸ™‚ and I’ve always wanted to try that diorskin nude, how is it?
@Layla88: Thanks, oil control really lasts all day! I have about 3 that I alternate around, they are quite different being mineral makeup or a lighter coverage foundation so I rotate when I feel like it πŸ™‚
@blushaphoria: haha you should but if you rarely wear it, you might not be used to it when you first try it out, reckion ppl that don’t use foundation much will got a shock from the coverage at first πŸ™‚
@amyrleex: thanks babe! haha try it out, you just might love it πŸ™‚
@eyelashwish: yea I’m pretty sure this might be a new staple since we are always in need of a good high coverage one during break out times πŸ˜›
    @icefrost: no problemo πŸ™‚
@sfgal: I totally agree with you, a little goes a long way!
    @Anniiee: Haha thanks πŸ™‚ try it! πŸ™‚

  • forensia

i always wanted to try this but the shade range in SG is so limited!

  • feistyskies

Ahh going to get one myself, but am so afraid of the oxidising part! Haha. Plus in SG the shades are super limited I’m afraid I’ll have to get 2 bottles just to get the right shade for my skintone….. which will oxidise sooner or later. haha i’m confusing myself!

  • heavenlygorgeous

I LOVE LVOE LOVE THIS LF! But sadly, SG only brings in limited shades. The darkest is Toast and it’s too dark for me. So i have to mix Early Tan and Toast together. (-___-)

  • roseannetangrs

@forensia: haha well i assume its cheaper I hope!
@fiestyskies: how are you babe? haha it will oxidise but mine didn’t turn orange like some people said it would :/
@heavenlygorgeous: haha me too! yea the shades are a downside here, most of them are cool tones πŸ™

  • Rinny's Beauty Diary

Thanks for the review Roseanne! I have the original formulation, so I was actually curious to see how the new formulation with Softplex does in comparison. The foundation looks really great on you – it really does make your skin look flawless. Does the softplex formula feel very lightweight on your skin? I feel like the original formula is a bit heavy on my face, so I was thinking of trying out the softplex formula πŸ™‚

  • roseannetangrs

Hey Rinny! thanks so much for dropping by πŸ™‚ It’s heavier in comparison to what I’m used to but because I haven’t tried the original formula, I’m not so sure. I do consider it a heavy foundation though, but the results are flaweless and it really does keep you oil free for ages! :):)

  • giannabanana

Wow! nice! Alright you’ve convinced me enough to try out Colorstay πŸ™‚

  • roseannetangrs

haha awesome πŸ™‚ thanks for dropping by hun πŸ™‚

  • makeupAnonymous

hmm. what did u use to remove the foundation since it stays on really well? i bought it but dare not to put it on my face yet ’cause im scared that it will clog my pores πŸ™ any help?

    • graconion

it is indeed pretty hard to remove; i usually pour foundation on the back of my hand (like roseanne does!), and when I wash my hands afterwards, even with soap and hard scrubbing, I can still see that patch of my hand tinted with foundation. Imagine putting that on your skin! I’ve been using it for quite a few months now. My routine was putting on cover fx acne primer, then this foundation, then the mac blot powder. I use L’Occitane red rice face wash to wash my face and remove it. After i realized how hard it “stains” my hand, I decided to try the Cover Fx makeup remover mousse. I don’t really like the mousse though, probably because it doesn’t lather up too much and I don’t feel clean. Then I realized my L’Occitane face wash actually removes make up as well. I also sometimes use the philosophy purity cleanser, and I feel like it removes it pretty well too. So far no break out! I still have acne, but the amount is the same (or actually less than) as before (ie before using revlon colorstay foundation, or before i start wearing makeup) (prolly i touch my face less when i have makeup on?) hope it helps!

This foundation is definitely amazing! I loved it so much, if it weren’t for one huge problem πŸ™ I have super sensitive skin and after a couple days, this broke me out like nobody’s business! It covers the breakouts really well, but I’d rather have no breakouts at all πŸ™ I recently found a foundation (the first ever that doesn’t break me out, which is amazing because even Bare Minerals breaks me out) that works just as well as Revlon Colorstay! It’s called Lush Color Supplements, and this stuff is great! I just dapple it on all over my face, then buff it for a couple seconds with a big fluffy brush and I get the flawless finish of Revlon Colorstay minus the breakouts! If you have super sensitive skin, try it out!

Hello! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any issues
with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and
I ended up losing several weeks of hard work due to no
back up. Do you have any methods to stop hackers?
