Reviews | roseannetangrs - Part 14

Hey Everyone,

There is always that one lipstick in your collection that makes you feel powerful. For me, it’s a lipstick that I’ve always cradled and that is the Chanel Rouge Allure in Super. The Chanel Rouge Allure lipsticks are my ultimate favourite lipsticks. They are smooth on the lips but they feel light enough to be worn everyday. They do not carry a heavy scent yet their pigmentation is for sure something to yell loud and proud for. In fact, I like comparing them to being on Cloud 9. Little do we know that if you are a black haired beau, hot pink lipsticks will look great on you so read on!

The Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick is supposedly:

An instant icon, this luxurious lipstick formula combines lustrous coloursensational comfort and fabulous wear. Purely CHANEL: the subtly etched, world-renowned logo, and an elegant click-open case that provides a most glamorous effect when applying colour.” We’ll see if the claims hold.

Packaging: This is for sure a lipstick you want to be showing off in the ladies restroom. Whip it out and like a scene in a movie, eyes will turn and zone in on this beautiful and sleek packaging. It’s simple, black and classic Chanel that’s not too showy nor understatedly cheap. Of course, what would you expect? It is Chanel.

However, the star of the show has to be this pop up mechanism. The gold chanel top is actually a button. Simply push in the golden logo and out comes the lipstick for easy handling. It’s graceful and stylish.

Pigmentation: Chanel Rouge Allure lipsticks are highly pigmented and I love them because they don’t feel heavy on the lips. Super in particular is a hot pink color that is well super vibrant. The lipsticks have a sheen but for sure nothing too dramatic. As the claim says lustrous color, I must say that I for sure have to agree.

Texture:  Smooth, semi-moisturising and not heavy. When it dries, it dries to a semi-stain so you don’t end up with lipstick clumps at the end of the day. On the lips, they help give shine, gloss and pigmentation! So yes, it does have sensational comfort and fabulous wear.

Beauty Tip: Think Super is too hot for you? Not to worry, a tip I like to live by is to simply pat lightly the lipstick onto the lips which will give a “just bitten” look while adding vibrancy and life to your lips and to the rest of your face. That’s how I turn Super into an everyday lip color!

Lasting power: 2 – 4 Hours. Not bad.

Final Verdict? Lovely. 5/5. Worth the price? Yes. I know they are pricey but try to get them duty free and you will not regret it. It’s my all time favourite lipstick. Sometimes I feel that some lipsticks offer a very smooth formula but feel to heavy, while others are just the opposite. Like Goldilocks having the little bear’s porridge, this lipstick is not too heavy, not too light but just right.

Roseanne

Hey Everyone!

Sorry for the 11 or so days I haven’t blogged. I feel so out of touch with my online self but it’s exam season and I’m sure you’re ether quite familiar or currently also traumatised. You get the idea.

For the next month or so, we shall immerse ourselves here in roseannebeauty land in a lipstick jungle. Although that phrase seems to be present in every metropolitan like movie, I’m not quite sure what it means. Either way, I’ll be hitching a ride and telling you to come along on my new series – the roseannebeauty Ultimate Lipstick Series – showcasing the drugstore and later department store lipsticks that I have tried out so far and my own personal take on them. Let’s go to the department store first.

In total, I have tried out seven different department store lipsticks, despite possibly having a few of each. I’ve taken one of each and I understand that each brand has different types of lipsticks but here are the ones that I’ve taken for a spin and probably even more than that. In the coming month, we’ll be looking at the Anna Sui Dolly Girl Lipstick, MAC Lustre Lipsticks, Benefit Lipsticks, YSL Rouge Volupte, Chanel Rouge Allure, Guerlain Kiss Kiss and Shiseido Perfect Rouge/Tender Sheer Lipstick. Here are some pre-season swatches:

The stars of the show:

Anna Sui Dolly Girl Lipstick Review – On the Beach

To start off the series, I’ve decided to start with the Anna Sui Dolly Girl Lipstick. The one I have was from the On the Beach collection, in shade 02. This one is a pretty interesting lipstick in the department store that we either love or hate. All Anna Sui products have a rose scent that may be an annoying asset to have to deal with for some but for others, it’s heaven on earth. Personally, I don’t hate it or love it and most lipsticks will come with a particular scent. The color here is “On the Beach” – a beautiful frost pink.

Packaging - Cute to say the least. All Anna Sui packaging reminds me of a haunted old lady’s house with inscense smoking up the room in a corner, a couple of cobwebs and purple neon lights. It’s not somewhere you’d possibly want to find yourself at night or on Halloween. An odly colored lipstick case makes this one unique from all the rest. I don’t suggest you imitating the ladies cheeks. It’s also interesting to note that they don’t come with a slanted tip, but a round tip that doesn’t really make a difference. It feels more like applying a balm than a lipstick I reckon.

Pigmentation - Pretty good. Not smashingly beautiful color payoff without any interfering “noise” in one swipe, but sufficient color payoff that’s certainly visible. The frost finish of the lipstick doesn’t really help either as a simple smacking of lips and the texture of the glitter can be slightly felt. It’s a very light feeling lipstick that isn’t particularly creamy at all and can dry out a bit as the day goes on.

How does it feel on the lips? - Alright. It’s for sure not the best lipstick I’ve slapped onto the lips, and not certainly the worst. At best, it’s mediocre and honestly slightly drying throughout the day. I didn’t feel like it was super moisturising either.

Overall - a 3/5. Good color payoff, decent texture but nothing worth queuing department store casheirs for. The smoothness of the lipstick just doesn’t cut it.

I have to add in though that I am in love with Anna Sui fragrances – used up Secret Wish twice, and a bottle of Flight of Fancy, that’s right.

Any questions? Just ask!

Roseanne

Hey Everyone!

The Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation has always been a product on the shelf that I’ve fo sho been curious about. I’ve wondered whether it had good enough coverage, if it was indeed a matte foundation and silly enough, whether it was slick enough to slide off. Until I bought it. I have to say that the first two mentioned traits are pretty true, but the latter will have to pass. Today, I’ll be doing a review about the much talked about the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation and whether its supposedly tried and tested claims hold true.

What are the product claims?

The Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation is undoubtedly a mousse and comes in pot rather than a bottle. It has a very slick and smooth texture that applying any other cream products on it is rather difficult. It has a true to matte finish with great coverage depending on the tool you use.

Maybelline Claims that the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation has:

1. Perfect Coverage for 100% Velvet Matte Perfection

2. Ideal for Normal to Oily Skin

3. Won’t Clog Pores/Non-Comodogenic

Let’s see if these claims hold at the end of this review!

Applying this Foundation:

This foundation is best applied when the mousse is pressed into the skin. That is the only way it blends with the skin and provides the most coverage. There are three different ways you can apply this foundation and I’ve realised that each method produces a different finish:

1. Hands: 100% Full Coverage. With your fingers, sweep some of the product onto your fingers and smooth and blend onto face.

2. Brush: Medium Coverage. It’s a bit difficult because you can’t press the foundation into the skin as well and you will have flaky bits falling off that isn’t attractive if you have a nice outfit on. It does not provide as much coverage as if you were to use your clean hands.

3. Sponge: Medium to Light Coverage: Out of all three ways to apply this foundation, this brings on the least coverage for a more natural look but you’ll need to pile on more foundation if you were to use a sponge instead of your hands.

You can see the particles which is exactly why it’s best when you use your fingers so you can press those particles into the skin.

Once spreaded evenly, it produces the most flawless finish ever, no joke. A little tip on the color. When you swatch your regular color in Maybelline with this foundation, it will appear lighter than normal. It is safe to say go one shade darker or you can use the same shade. With full coverage foundations, I don’t suggest totally going out and about and being active in it. Use it sparingly for nights out or photoshoots if you really need that full on coverage. You also do not want to go overboard with this, you will look like you are wearing a mask otherwise. Be careful!

After a powder application, it always becomes more flawless.

Pretty good job on the pores as well!

So What do I think?

Excellent. Excellent if you’re into full coverage foundations. If not, you could be going for a less natural look than normal. It’s a very and absolutley matte finish, probably the most matte foundation that I’ve tried. It lasts about 4-5 hours which is the usual rate but will not hold that matte finish throughout the day. You will still need to carry your blotters with you. Saying this, let’s look at the claims once again.

1. Perfect Coverage for 100% Velvet Matte Perfection?

Perfect Coverage only if you apply with your fingers.  For sure a velvet matte finish, even applying my studio finish concealer on top would slide off the stuff, very smooth and silicone feeling.

2. Ideal for Normal to Oily Skin?

Yes. Oily skin and normal skin people can use this but I would not reccomend it for people with dry skin.

3. Won’t Clog Pores/Non-Comodogenic?

I had no breakouts from this product!

Overall, a great product if you’re looking for full coverage and a matte finish but remember to apply this with your fingers!

Have you tried this foundation before and what do you think?

Hey Everyone,

This could be the most disgusting post that I’ve ever made. That’s because it showcases my two zits. I know, that’s gross Roseanne but trust me, it’s totally relevant to this review. Today I’ll be reviewing a much talked about acne treatment – it’s the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. In this review, I’ll be taking to new freshly baked zits and I’ll be applying them for two nights. Any longer than that anyway you’d think the medication wasn’t very affective I reckon right? My sincere apologies in advance for the images to come.

What does the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion do?

It’s supposed to be a pimple shrinker and a fast, overnight one at that. The Mario Badescu claims that these two layered little bottle is supposed to:

1. Fast

2. Effective

3. “will Shrink ugly whiteheads virtually overnight while you sleep”

INGREDIENTS: Isopropyl Alcohol,Deionized Water (Aqua), Calamine, Camphor, Colloidal Sulfur, Salicylic Acid,Glycerine, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Talc

For more product information: http://www.mariobadescu.com/Drying-Lotion

Again, we’ll see if those claims hold. Let’s go!

Here are the evil villains of the day. Look at them peeking out like nobody’s business. They’re inflamed, angry and have little whiteheads pearing out!

Unlike most topical treatments, the way you would apply this is to dip a cotton bud into the fluid. Make sure the two layers are seperated, you’re supposed to dip through the alcohol into the calamine solution and then bring it slowly up. Do not mix the two laters, again, they need to be seperated.

Once you take it out, you basically have the ammo. Time to shoot some bad boys down.

Just dab the lotion onto the pimples. Then, go to bed. The sensation is tingly and it will sort of hurt like you brazed yourself and you’re putting a bit of dettol on it to clean it up for just a little bit. It feels sort of nice because you know you’re not wasting your money on a dormant product. You will feel something and according to your pain tolerance, it might be bearable or unbearable. For me, with the many threading sessions I attend, this is nothing. I prefer my acne treatments to “hurt” anyway.

Overnight, there were defintely results. You can see the lower zit is much smaller, less inflamed and the whitehead is larger. The whitehead is larger on the large pimple as well. I reckon it did not totally take the zits away but it did do something.

2nd Night. On it goes again.

Wow. After the second night, the whiteheads are gone and they appear much smaller. Again, they’re not totally gone just yet.

As you can see, they are much flatter after the 2nd night.

So, did it work?

Yes, it obviously did work. I wouldn’t say it was very fast but it was effective. I didn’t go beyond two nights because three nights would be considered average so I just wanted to see if it was fast. It was relatively fast but the lotion didn’t take care of the redness and it has very drying properties – that’s exactly how the lotion shrinks the pimple so putting makeup in the morning might be a pain because of the flaky skin. That’s my bad though.

Overall:

1. Fast?

Relatively. Two nights flattened, not redness gone though. It will also leave an acne scar as all pimples sort of do. It’s their little foot print.

2. Effective?

Yes. It works. As you can see.

3. “will Shrink ugly whiteheads virtually overnight while you sleep”?

I thought the whiteheads became larger right? It shrunk the pimple overnight. Yes.

So overall, this is a good acne medication I reckon! It did shrink my zits but I wouldn’t say it’s particularly fast. It also is not good for large patches of acne because I’ve tried that before and it wasn’t as effective as slathering my proactive repairing lotion on patches like those. For spot treatments for one or two zits, this is the way to go.

Hope you liked my review!

Have you tried the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion? What do you think?

Hey Everyone!

There’s just something about Japanese makeup that makes you want to run around in a flurry of pink, diamonds and kawaii. It’s the whole aura of funny colored lenses, much too flattering eye-lashes and voluminized hair in every color but your own.

When we think Asian makeup, that’s probably the image we’re able to muster up almost instantly. Face it, it’s the packaging and the girls at the purikura photobooths that have us wishing we were 2D. Personally though, I’ve never really bought into this packaging mainly for well two reasons. Number one being that I never felt that I could ever be priviledged enough to fall into the steretoype of having my index and middle finger up as my default pose ready to turn anyone into a bunny rabbit in photos and number two being the fact that I wasn’t skilled enough to read the packaging in the first place.

Therefore, I guess what I’m trying to say is that I need your apologies for having very few asian makeup products despite running around in my own ethnicity. But, every journey starts with baby steps and I’m starting to explore BB creams much more and well today, I have a review of a very special cream blush I’ve been loving lately- the Canmake Cream Cheek.

Thanks to the lovely Jolyn or passing this to me, it was very sweet of you. Speaking of sweet, this packaging is probably the definition of sweet. It’s in a cute or shall I say kawaii heart shaped case that’s diamond cut, complete with japanese words I can’t read, sparkles and a plastic clam like case. The actual product is a balm and mousse like finish that blends easily into the skin and the whole thing is quite small. It fits into your palm that’s great for on the go because you won’t need a brush.

Product Claims taken from www.canmake.com:

1. Silky Soft Texture

“The melting gel-type texture, which is silky-soft on your fingers, becomes dry from the instant you apply it to your cheeks!”

2. Long-Lasting

“Contains masses of emollient agents that are highly compatible with your skin (squalene of vegetable origin and amino acid-based emollients), enclosed in a special stretchy gel, which not only protects your skin from drying out, but also improves the blusher’s adhesion to your skin, making it longer-lasting.”

3. Good Pigmentation

Gel-type formulation for vibrant color that looks just as it does in the container.

The claims are pretty self explanatory so we’ll see if they hold!

Starting with bare cheeks….

Let’s Put it On!

Step 1: Shade 01 is a cool pink color and the best way to apply the product is to use what your mama gave you – meaning your clean fingers. Simply swipe the product onto your fingertips. I suggest using two at a time so you can apply the product a little faster. As you can see, the pigmentation is great swatched on your fingertips.

Step 2: Start by patting the product on the cheek. Just place the cream blush first. You’ll blend the product later on. This is just the placement of the blush.

Step 3: Blend it out! You can see that it’s a pretty intimidating cool toned pink. I reckon it’s very similar to the MAC Well Dressed blush.

However, in daylight, it mellows out into quite a flattering color. On the Canmake website, this color is supposed to be called Peach Dream. It’s definetley a Pink dream, not a peach.

So What Do I Really Think?
I really like it and I’m really impressed. Looking at the claims:

1. Silky Soft Texture

Yes, I can just feel the dimethicone or silicone molecules in this. i can’t read the ingredients but I can feel them. You’ll definetley get that texture that often accompanies pore fighting primers, filling in lines and making complexions smoother. It’s a very smooth and silky soft texture, almost mousse like.

2. Long-Lasting

Yes. I think this is the characteristic that suprised me the most! It lasted longer than my regular blushes as I thought that such a silky feeling blush would slide off in no time. Very impressed with the lasting power of these blushes.

3. Good Pigmentation

When blended, they make the perfect pigmentation. You don’t want to concentrate these colors on the apples of your cheeks. I suggest blending them upwards and blending them well so you don’t look like a woman clown! It’ll be a positive externality I promise. Yes, they have good pigmentation, but you should be blending them out so they won’t. When blended out, it’s a very subtle glow like you’ve blushed them cheeks yourself.

Overall, a fantastic product from Canmake and if you can’t get enough, there are 10 colors in total. I love them because they last long and you can pocket these blushing jewels everywhere you go.
